January Transfer window

If venkys don't invest some money this January then it's obvious they don't want promotion and there's some underlining things going on behind the scenes. Best not to speculate what they are

Mowbray had us 2nd and they gave him nothing. JDT was in the playoffs and they gave him nothing.

What is there to still work out?

Both good points…the only difference this year is that the club is in profit. I’m not sure that changes anything but if they were to put the ‘usual’ £11m in, that would easily finance the window.

It doesnt, because they have clearly been keen to further slash the budget.

But the profit will be in the June 2024 accounts relating to the Wharton sale and it wil be those accounts that likely show a small profit, not the 2025 ones. Even with the Szmodics sale (predominantly all profit considering his amortised value would have been comparatively small) in the 2025 accounts, we will almost certainly make a loss.

Either way, if any reasonable % of that was to be made available, it would have been by now.

Was there not something around the FFP cycles giving us a bit of wriggle room this season, or did I imagine that?

If it is true, combined with our league position, manager's performance, increased attendances (recently) and the fortune made from player sales.

There really is no excuse.

22/23 losses = £20.8 million

23/24 profit = £1.8 million

Loss ‘available’ for 2024/25 = £20 million

(It isn’t quite that simple as the accounts will include expenses which aren’t counted for FFP)

Fair enough, imaginative.

Don't fancy Brittain at LB personally.

We are absolutely nowhere near FFP limits. The Wharton sale will count as pure profit and the Szmodics sale will be predominantly profit.

As I posted earlier, we have around £20 million pound losses ‘available’ for 24/25.

This includes the Wharton sale.

It doesn’t include the Sammie sale nor the additional Raya money.

The £1.8 million profit in 23/24 followed a £22.9 million profit on player sales - this equates to a pre player sale loss of £21.1 million.

This suggests to me the ‘wriggle room’ equates to roughly the fee we received for Sammie + the Raya money (oh and the fee for Gallagher)

Or as you said far more succinctly (😁) we’re nowhere near the FFP limits.

He won't be coming but I'd rather push Brittain forward than play him at left back. He's the best crosser of the ball at the club - he wouldn't be on the left.

As you touched on too, those loss figures dont include a breakdown of exempt expenses not publically available. So we will be even further away.

That looks like just shifting a team around to accommodate your favourites - and signing a player we don't possibly need.

Yes its a perverse thing with Venkys. When we are doing OK in the League they won't give us any money because we're doing OK without it.

The idea that if they did spend we'd do even better and maybe get to the Promised Land seems to have eluded them

He'll be exactly like Beck when pushed further forward - he can 'do a job' but he's a FB for a reason.

Just sign a pacey winger - it's really not that hard.
