den
The days when the manager told the club which player he wanted seem to be gone, at Ewood at least. It appears that he has no input at all and it’s left to others to go find players who might fit his requirements. Is it exactly like that at all the other clubs. Does the manager not get included in the player search at all. Does Guardiola just sit back and wait for his players to turn up? I doubt it but that seems to be what happens here. If it’s the case that rovers managers have no, or virtually no input into player recruitment then either the system is failing or Gestede and his team is failing. If players are regularly turning up who are nowhere near what the manager requires or are simply below the standard needed, then someone has to take responsibility for this. Of course that must be Waggott. He’s running the show.
unleaded
It’s easier to manage that if a coach leaves then players are still their for the next manager to work with .. Imagine every coach having his favourites or his types the turn over of players would be too much …Some choices are just too hard to move on cause the length of their contracts JDT would have his choices clogging up the squad for Eustace ie He didn’t rate Travis luckily the club held on to him … Coach has his say but not Fully..If they take on the job am sure they do their homework on what the current squad is before applying for it …

roversfan99
Wont be missed. Mind you, a couple of others on the list are in the same boat.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted February 7 Moderation Lead Share Posted February 7 He's barely had a kick this season. He looks very much like another one who loves being a footballer and the wealth/celebrity status that comes with it, but not actually playing football....
wilba23
He's a good finisher though and showed flashes of ability. Thought he could have been handy as an impact sub and added competition in the front line if could get back up to speed. Thought Pickering would have been omitted given he's likely to be injured for most of the rest of the season, especially now we signed LB cover
doctorryan
I think this choice may have been a mistake, but we're not privy to everything going on at Brockhall of course & someone had to be left without a chair.
wilba23
True. They might also be aware of interest from a league that can still transfer players in

Even a loan to another club with us paying a percentage of his wages will be beneficial for all parties at this point. Surely he'll want to get some minutes under his belt and show some form, considering he'll be on the lookout for a new contract in the summer.

Obviously he won't be missed as he spends 80% of his time in the treatment room. Must be a bit more to it though, as Pickering has been included despite being injured for a lot of the remaining season and having 2 left backs already in the squad, who are fit and ready to play. Real shame about Sigurdsson generally though, there was a good amount of expectation that came with his signing.
Polky
It’s a shame it’s not worked out for Siggy. Looks to be a good finisher but can’t stay fit. Hasn’t played since 26 October 2024 and has only completed 90 minutes twice this season, coming in both Carabao Cup games.

My understanding is that we can only offload him now as a free agent which would involve terminating his contract and paying some if not all of the contract up. Either way we-ve ended up paying a player 17k p.w. for god knows how long for doing absolutely nothing. Another Broughton masterstroke.

Not that I expect we will though. If he's to leave I expect it will be a loan until the end of his contract. Polky
Just done some quick sums… Sigurdsson’s stats in all competitions: Appearances - 41 Starts - 22 (53.65% of games available) Minutes played - 2023 (49.34 minutes on average) Goals - 8 (goal every 5.1 games) Assists - 5 (assist every 8.2 games)
ruggles1995
im purely trying to keep positive. And I am going to try and put a positive spin on the woodrow signing. He is more of a 10 as I read, and as he may be a bit underwhelming of a signing, I cant forget how bad Cantwell was on Tuesday, looked so uninterested, you at least run around and try and look half assed. Cantwell also doesn't really chip in with many goals. Woodrow with something to prove in the 10 just might work. Cantwell needs a kick up his ass, and if woodrow coming in with stern comp in that 10 role may just either give us a player thats come to prove a point, or gets cantwell moving out of 1st gear... Or they both just end up stinking!

Wouldnt be surprised if we try to ship him out on loan or for a fee. But he has been "injured" for sometime, the way our december has gone we cant really be carrying too many who are prone to injuries, good player on his day, but sadly that day isnt too often, and thats because he can never be available long enough. rog of the rovers
Sigurdsson's goal against Oxford is his last in Rovers colours and only one to be scored during the reign of John Eustace. Eustace has been in charge for a year and had 52 games as Rovers boss. The thought of Siggy will be missed, the reality of Siggy is "we barely knew ye"

Trinidad Rover
Totally obvious the reason why. His wages will cover Dennis. The objective was clearly to break even in Jan and not spend more. Baker and Fadzean cover Sanderson, Forshaw, Ribeiro. Sigurdsson wages cover Kargbo (who is likely on peanuts) and Dennis % contribution. There is no chance Siggy offers less from a footballing perspective than every player on that list. The latest podcast from Elliott Jackson & pal cover this really nicely. Worth a listen Edited February 7 by Trinidad Rover

Only really works if they manage to get him out of the door. The player could just sit on his contract and try his luck fresh in the summer instead of rushing into something now.
Herbie6590
Had my say on the January window & what we expect from John Eustace… https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/24912575.blackburns-transfer-strategy-piano-eustaces-task/
sharpysharps86
Pretty unsurprising that Siggy has been left out. The guy is made of glass. Its such a shame as when he first got into the team under JDT he looked to be a very good player. I would've been surprised if he'd featured again this season regardless of being registered or not so for me it makes a lot of sense to leave him out. Shame that it's not worked out, but it's best he moves on. A return to Scandinavia seems the most sensible move for him.
