January Transfer window

Batth and Hyam have looked a great partnership but we can't play with a high line at the moment, and that's costing us going forward. We have a solid team with a fantastic work-ethic, but we miss Carter's ability to carry the ball and his pace in the recovery phase as well.

I think we'll revisit the Marcial Godo deal, unless we have someone else lined up to fill the same spot. If we loan out Leonard then I'm guessing there will be a PL loan coming in. A left back and a CM would be good too, Buckley has looked off the pace whenever he's come on unfortunately.

Not sure I watched the same James Hill for us that everyone else did, we shipped goals for fun whilst he was here

Odd post. Hill only made 18 appearances for us last season and from memory I doubt all of those appearances were starts.

You might as well attach that argument to Hyam who made 35 appearances and who I think most people would agree had an extremely poor season.

A good window is needed - no excuses.  Two loan slots available and at least 1 permanent signing required.

Defence:  Needs cover

1x left back who can also cover centrally.

Midfield: Midfield looks very thin when Travis or Tronstadt not available. JRC may be the only other option in there.

Need rid of Buckley and I'm not overly enamoured with Baker - not sure what he actually brings. He's not out and out bad - reminds me a bit of Elliott Bennet.  He's a player soon out of contract.  If Eustace really wants him, surely a minimal fee  could be negotiated to free up another loan place?

Top end: Where do we start?

Ohashi & Gueye both offer something - but neither really has enough all round to be starting games.  In an ideal world those 2 are our bench options.

Leonard probably needs a loan. What's happening with Tyjon's development?

A better quality striker is a must.

We still haven't sorted the wide positions either.

ACD has shown flashes.  He seems to be a yard short of that top level pace.  Close control and turning ability exceptional - but gets caught on the ball a lot.  Only young so may well  improve...or may well turn out to be another Markanday/Dolan type.

Hedges/Dolan/JRC don't really offer much out wide in an attacking sense.

We still lack pace to play effectively on the break.

A wide player is definitely needed.

Ideal window for me then:

Centre forward

winger

left back/cb cover

Possibly a midfielder - personally I'd let Baker go.

I was with you until the end - I think Baker is a very useful Championship player and he seems content to play second fiddle to Tronstad / Travis.

I'd try to move Buckley and Sigurdsson on. I'd look to sell Dolan too if there's a buyer and the money can be reinvested.

I think he's a very good Championship RB - if you're not looking for said RB to get forward too much.

He was poor at CB for us last year when called upon to play there.

We have 5 games in the next 3 and a half weeks, whatever moves they're planning (if any) they need to make them fast.

We need CB, LW and ST - would also benefit from a CDM and RW. My picks would be something like;

CB - Tyler Bindon (Perm)
CDM - Toby Collyer (Loan)
LW - Martial Godo (Loan)
RW - Kwame Poku (Perm)
ST - Ross Stewart (Loan)

Well known saying in professional football that a CB is only as good as his partner. Batth makes everyone else look good, my POTS so far. On a far greater scale Van Dijk does the same at Liverpool, Konate, Gomez and Matip are all average CB’s for their countries or when playing next to anyone but Van Dijk, when Hill played CB he was caught out of position so many times. Anyway like you said it’s irrelevant as he isn’t coming here.

Poke’s injured, hamstring I believe. Stewart seems to be permanently injured.

Stewart is fit at the moment isn't he? Think he'd be worth looking at for a loan until the end of the season, bagsman when he's fit.

As for Poku yes I know, he wouldn't be one for this season - but it's a good time to try and nab him at a cut-price. His contract runs out at the end of the season, and there'll be a queue of Clubs looking to get him on a free transfer.

Dream window for me:

RB cover, JRC probably the worst footballer we’ve had since our league one squad and Brittain picks up little knocks. Don’t really have a target in mind that isn’t pie in the sky thinking.

CB cover, desperately thin on the ground.

CM x 2 ideally, Buckley makes us worse when he comes on, Baker’s a yard off it and Travis is out for 2 months. Exploring the foreign markets might be our best shout with this.

At least one wide man, pace is required as we’re too one dimensional.

A striker who has previously scored goals, even if not currently. Again pace would be ideal.

Realistic window:

a CB on loan from a prem team

a winger on loan on the last day and that’s your lot.

You can only have 5 loans in a matchday squad. That being said, Stewart is never available anyway so wouldnt be an issue.

No chance. Got plenty of worse footballers in the current squad alone.

JRC is a frustrating one but he isn't THAT bad in my opinion, just wildly inconsistent. In any case, I think Left Back cover is far more important. We do have at least JRC and the young Duru to cover Right back if Brittain gets injured, whereas if Beck gets injured we're screwed on that side with Pickering out for so long.

Jrc is far from our worst footballer that’s a truly awful take

baker isn’t Travis many aren’t but yesterday showed he’s more than capable with a run of games

striker tops the list

winger

centre half preferably left sided

I wouldn't normally advocate loaning a youngster, but considering it's the most expensive position on the pitch, would anyone look at Deivid Washington from Chelsea on loan?

Signed last summer and hasn't been near the first team this season (bench included).

Financially, I've no idea if we'd be able to afford it, but I can see him going on loan somewhere in Jan.

He isn't on a free transfer at the end of the season. Due to his age and offering him a new deal, Peterborough are due compensation. They're expecting it to be quite a lot, since they paid 'a substantial six figure fee' for him and turned down 3 million plus 3 million in add ons this summer allegedly. They believe they'll get 'millions and millions' at the tribunal.

There is no cut price deal to be had in January.

A player of his age shouldn't be content to play second fiddle, that would be a concern in itself.  Baker seemed to be a Eustace pick. I can't see what he brings but if Eustace rates him, fair enough.

A Stoke fan I know wasn't bothered about him leaving.  "Doesn't really impact games but may pop up with the odd goal."  Seems a fair assessment from what I've seen so far.

A bit like Weimann.  Doesn't seem involved in much but can sniff out a goal.

Agree about Sigurdsson, Buckley and Dolan. Any offers and they should be gone.

He's absolutely shocking, academy tax.

I'm pretty sure Peterborough have form for wildly stretching the truth when it comes to transfers.

I don't doubt they'll receive a decent wedge at a tribunal, but I'd be very surprised if it stretches to over £2m, probably far less. All they are doing with those statements is stretching the truth, to either stop clubs lowballing them, or beginning a narrative in preparation for a tribunal.

I'd be pleased if we went in for both Poku and Godo, meaning Poku can slowly work his way back from injury.

They do, but they're still not accepting a cut price fee. What they also have history of is holding out for their demands. They probably expect something like £2m plus in tribunal, and whether that's realistic or not they're not going to be accepting less than that, and we aren't paying that. Like you said, they want clubs to not lowball them, so, we won't be getting away with any lowballing, aka a cut price fee. They have no reason to take bids below what they believe they'll get at tribunal.

Honestly, just forget about this one lads, at least until summer. Even if it was say £1.5 mill, which it won't be, it's too much of our puny budget for an injured player when we want to challenge for the playoffs.

Feel like people who say this are remembering the JRC from a couple of seasons ago and was pants... one of the worst, most flimsy players I have ever seen who had no final ball or nous.

However, he's improved massively since then, seems like only this season where he's dropped off really.
