It is the same amount, adjusted for headline inflation at the time.

It is fairly clear that any speculation about funds is pointless, as nobody outside of the inner clique has a cuckoo's clue what is available (or not). This thread would be better served if folk stuck to information about players who are a) available and b) a reasonable shout for an outfit with our characteristics (I know, that is likely to be a shallow pool! 😞 )

Is there ANY rumour worth discussing, about potential incomings or outgoings?

COYB!

2 things- it’s silly season, so people will link completely unrealistic players, it happens.

Also, all roads lead back to Venky’s, so it stands to reason that they are decisions made and affected by them, crop up across a few threads, I’m afraid.

You keep repeating this and I don't understand what you are saying.

We keep getting told by the club that we can't use that money because it isn't all paid to us in one lump sum, rather it is spread out across several years. So how can it be gone?

If it was all paid in one lump sum, and the club have lied (again) then where has it gone in less than 12 months? Are you suggesting that it has all been used to cover losses? If so why? That would mean that losses in the last 11 months exceeded £20 million, which is surely impossible, but even if correct we've still had the Raya and Szmodics money since then - so where is that?

I think you are saying it is 'gone' because that is what Nixon is saying.

What we actually are getting to here is not that it has 'gone' but rather that the owners are not allowing any of it back into reinvestment or improvement to the club. Instead they are using it to pay their bills moving forwards. Nothing untoward there, that's their choice.

Nothing to do with FFP, cycles, weather, Covid, just a simple choice on their part that they want to save money by forcing the club to live off the sale of a once-in-a-generation talent rather than allow a portion to come back to support JDT or Eustace.

Agreed?

. Or in other words - it’s gone. Or is it Schrödinger’s money ?

One or two have managed to convince themselves that the failings of January 2023, Summer 2023 and January 2024 and subsequent relegation battle last season were all the fault or one or a combination of Tomasson, Broughton, Silvester.

Don't forget the Fax and the computer!

I'd take Schlupp. Plenty of Championship experience and IMO is a better footballer than anyone we currently have playing out on the left. At 32 though he won't have the same pace he used to, but I'd still take have him in the side over Hedges or Dolan.

Kent is a tricky one. We need players who can hit the ground running and he's been without a club for a few months, probably needs to spend some time working up to full fitness, so how much of an impact can he realistically make this season if he was to come in? It also seems more likely that he'll end up back at Rangers based on the latest stories about him.

Agreed?

Venky London accounts (year ending 31/3/24) have a loss before asset trading of £21 million and a profit after of £1.8 million.

As you say though, there is still the Szmodics and Raya money so FFP  is not an excuse they can use (they will probably try to though!)

For my sins since Adam went to palace I periodically dip into their forum . The view on Schlupp is that he has piled the weight on, is running in treacle and can no longer hack it.

Can we not put him on a diet and ban him from going anywhere near sweet syrup?

Utter drivel. It’s hard to know how any rational Rovers fan could even think that.

I’m not saying I don’t want them to spend the money. Of course I do. I’m saying bearing in mind the tenure of Venky’s and how absolutely fuckin useless they are, it’s absolutely deluded to think that they’re going to suddenly start spending!

The club COULD spend millions if the owners wanted. There is no impediment to that, FFP or otherwise. Whether it SHOULD do during January or not is another question.

It doesn't want to. That much is clear. Their choice, they see it as their money and their name above the door. Nothing we can do about that but lets not make excuses for them by pretending the club is constrained by other non-Venky factors.

Exactly, they’re never gonna spend any serious money.

This £20million a year is Waggot's masterstroke.

Multiple rounds of cost cutting? £20m/year.

Selling star assets and reducing wage costs? £20m/year.

Little to zero spent on maintenance/match day? £20m/year.

They think we're morons. They're not 100% incorrect, clearly.

Stop moaning. what we need 2 do is all get behind the team cos people like u r bringing the club down nd get mowbray back he had the right idea.

😉

To be honest, the amount we spend doesn't concern me, it's signing the right players which is the acid test. The 2 things aren't always connected.

Plymouth not scoring enough goals and went and spent £1.5m on a striker as early as they could in the window, didn’t even use the excuse of waiting on the new manager, just went and got it done.

According to our resident transfer expert he wouldn’t have improved our squad though. Scored 5 goals in the europa this season against top flight teams, but wouldn’t improve our squad…. You couldn’t write it!

Schlupp only comes if a contract is in place for him at the end of the loan. That’s event mentioned on the Nixon post. He’ll be looking for a final payday and I’d be avoiding it. Not against the Sam Surridge suggestion from Chaddy. I’m sure there are others out there as well but we do need to act quickly as we could waste 5 league games before the window closes otherwise. Those 5 games are all against teams that we should be beating and will define our season. We can’t afford to stumble through those matches and pick up draws and defeats.

We really need to be active now and getting some real quality in,

I quite like the suggestion of Kent but there are questions about his attitude. He’s a better age than Sclupp and would potentially be a better investment but he’s also been out of the game for a while

Spot on, with Yuki out, we need signings on the pitch against Pompey. No excuses.

I feel the rule that Venky's have to match any transfer fee with a bond in India is a convenient excuse for them. If they invest £5mill in transfer fees then it would cost then £10 mill. This degree of funding would be very useful and might even be enough to make the playoffs with our excellent manager.  From what other more knowledgeable posters say FFP should be no impediment to this. The reality is that the bond for this degree of funding would be a comparative pittance for a multi-Billionaire. Maybe this is oversimplified, but failure to stump up the funding is clear evidence of their neglect and makes you wonder why they don't just sell up.

Links Brereton back to Sheffield Utd.

Would take him here but out of our range now

Three of our former strikers struggling for game time in the premiership relegation zone - you'd guess that Southampton and Ipswich want to hang onto them for the championship next season. Might be a cheeky loan available to keep them fit and get them up to speed in this league again...

Wishful thinking, I know.

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t a bond like putting money in the bank. They won’t actually lose it.
