Gabo on bench for Fulham today.

Nicko is saying that Schlupp is the priority at the minute. Eustace, Gestede and Owen all agree on this. He also saying the striker signing will be loan at the minute.

Eustace wants 2 or 3 signings. That's what he has said. Schlupp is a target at the minute and he can play left back and left winger. Then we need a striker and centre back then

We need a pacey winger I doubt Sclupp will still have the pace and desire at 32. That’s even if reports that his legs have gone are not true. I prefer someone younger and fitter. We can’t afford to cock up this great chance that we have to get in the playoffs.
It seems we’re doing what we always do, not spending money to get somebody decent, but going for the cheap and desperate. Would you see any of the top six teams going for him? I strongly doubt it.
We’re just cheap and amateurish.

Gibson has lost similar amounts as the Venkys bankrolling his football club. And kept them marooned in the Championship for 14 of the last 15 years.

I'm unsure why he is constantly trotted out as a litmus test for the perfect football club owner. Perhaps because he bailed them out originally and is a fan?

Our owners lose 17 million a year. 50k a day! Only player trading keeps us liquid. They wiped 30 million off our turnover and created this mess, but sadly there is no easy fix once you go down. Unless you want to risk your own personal fortune or the financial viability of your football club.

As the respected Mr. Gibson will confirm.

As I said earlier, in the period in question, Gibson's Boro at least made it into the Prem, and a few times (3 I think I said) into the playoffs. We may have started in the Prem in that period but Venkys promptly got us relegated and haven't gotten us into the playoffs once since. They did however get us relegated again.

Nobody is saying Gibson is the litmus test of a perfect football club owner, but he's a fucking damned sight better than Venkys and if you don't agree you're either a WUM or braindead, sorry. Despite him being nowhere near as wealthy. Being willing to risk his own personal fortune only puts him even further ahead of Venkys.

He said more than anything he wants a ‘Chaddy opinion which isn’t some form of regurgitated club rhetoric from or The Sun’s chief shite spouter’.

He should know - Chaddy's opinions are his opinions.

Sorry I think I’m missing something here.

In his interviews on the public record, when he asks for ‘2/3 quality players that can make a difference’ do you honestly, hand on heart, believe he’s talking about 32 year old Jeffrey fucking Schlupp?

Honestly?

Well given that its is reported that Eustace, Gestede and Owen are all in agreement on Schlupp move answers your question.

You might not be tho. that's on you

He won't die wondering that's for sure.

I could also have replied to this, in Monty Python style, 'Yes, but apart from saving the club, winning their only ever major honour and getting them into two other major finals, and risking his personal fortune, apart from that...what has Steve Gibson ever done for Boro?'

yes we all know what your view is on Schlupp. I don't think anyone has forgotten this.

So if Eustace wants Schlupp, should we ignore what he wants or not?

Should we not sign a striker because he is squad man at his current club?

I never said either of those things.

Who Eustace wants is obviously most important. Although according to you on the topic of Rothwell, the owners should just sign whoever they want...

But if Eustace does want Schlupp or at least thinks he is the best option. That would probably be indicative of a very poor list of players due to budget restrictions. And also, I would disagree with him signing. Just because Eustace picks him doesnt mean I need to agree.

And also, my point was it is hard to be enthusiastic when so much money has vanished without reinvestment to be potentially signing players in the bargain basement of limited ability. Because these arent the sort of signings that will either get us into the top 6 or benefit us beyond this season. They may be the best we can afford, and better than nothing.

What is the beef with Schlupp?

Do people think you lose pace at 32? This isn’t the 90s. Footballers look after themselves. I am 31 and I reckon I’m as quick as when I was 21 - I drink pints every weekend and love a chinese

Schlupp will be fit and quick. He’s had premier league experience. He’s a winger. And a good one. What’s the problem?

Even at his peak, Schlupp was more of a utility man than the type of winger that we are crying out for. One that will offer us a goal threat and provide some individuality. We would (if it happens, which is up in the air) be getting a jack of all trades who will do his hard work but wont add many goals, will only be here temporarily and will be on a physical decline.
