Yeah he was eventually offered a ‘big’ contract by our standards in the summer that he left. It was upwards of 20k a week but not sure exact figures. Easily beaten by Boro mind. He wanted to stay the entire time, the talks were opened in the January of that year but after that initial offer it was game over really.

And you can't blame Lenihan one bit.

I can't understand why most people think the likes of Schlupp and Hanley are not good enough as cover, maybe even only on a temporary basis, but Ryan Hedges is and deserves a contract extension.

I must be living in some sort of parallel universe where in the other one Hedges is decent.

Hedges is shite

So without wishing to defend them, although roverfan99 wont have it, that sounds like Waghail playing silly buggers (I'm tempted to use a far stronger word) as opposed to any direct involvement of the owners.

When you say "didn't sign his bumper contract" do I take it he was offered a decent deal eventually but by that stage they'd pissed him off beyond the point of no return?

This morning has been full of nonsensical theories and supposed ITK stuff that makes your stuff on our lack of budget just being down to Waggott not asking for it seem pretty tame.

They are the ones who send whatever budget we have over, end of story.

I remember you referring to JE offering to resign a while ago with no explanation as to the context.

If true about the £5m being withdrawn from JDT why did they then press ahead with a loan deal for Mcguire - did they know it was going to be scuttled in advance or was it a genuine cock up?

Also if they later agreed to advance Eustace £5m in summer and then backed out - is that not them going rogue or does Suhail have virtual autonomy over the budget in line with my original question.

Either way if JE did offer to resign twice that's two managers in a row now and the whole situation is completely untenable , he won't be here long.

Wow! I must have missed this. Someone saying Eustace offered to resign?

Was this in the summer after keeping us up?

Once again, I am getting the awful feeling that encouraging performances on the field have only ever been a distraction or even an anaesthetic for the ongoing disease, eating away at our club.

Have a look back at the contributions from Paul Mani and my questions pertaining to it.

Take it or leave it but incendiary stuff if true.

Hedges is a strange case for me.

I genuinely believe he has the attributes to be a solid player at this level... but he just isn't.

I agree with that, but its intelligence / decision making were he seems to be lacking. Similar to Dolan really, they both lack the intelligence to step it up a level or two and stay there. Its always 1 good game in 5 with them.

Similar games being played or have been played with Nyambe, Rothwell, Dolan, Brereton, and many many more over the last few years.

There's a limit to how much time and goodwill you can waste dealing with such people before you come to the conclusion a move elsewhere is necessary, not just financially but also because they treat people disgracefully, which counts for a lot especially when other actual professional clubs make an effort to make people feel wanted.

There's a Chelsea player Sunderland are looking at, which means we'll probably not stand a chance. His name is Harvey Vale and supposedly oozes potential and can play a number of positions, left back, left wing back, attacking midfield and forward. Out of contract in the summer, so could be a great investment for the future, with a loan to sign on a free in summer.

A few loan options could include:

Jayden Danns (Liverpool, Striker) - Just back from injury, but they could be tempted to send out for remainder of season. Cardiff & Plymouth both enquiring about a deal.

Toby Collyer (Man Utd, Defensive Midfielder) - Raved about and considered future Casemiro replacement. Van Nistelrooy rates him very highly and rumours Leicester want him on loan. Could provide cover for Travis.

Jaden Philogene (Aston Villa, Winger) - Excelled at Hull and Villa looking to send out on loan.

All a bit ambitious, which doesn't match our clubs profile, so not sure why I've bothered, but if we want a successful run in, these are the types of players we should be tracking. Harvey Elliott and Owen Beck have shown there are exceptional talents out there available for loan and we clearly aren't looking to spend big on transfers.

Anyway, that's my pointless input on the topic, I'll just sit back and await the next John Fleck!!

I agree that Schlupp and Hanley are good enough as squad members but we need signings that are much better than the players we currently have. Otherwise we are simply paying out transfer fees / wages to simply stand still.

To be honest, I think Schlupp would be a first choice in our current 11 so you could argue he would be an ok signing but in general we need to aim higher. Signing players as short term cover won't get us in the playoffs.

Danns senior started out playing for us. Now that might be a good thing or a bad thing.

Saw that Villa are likely to recall Samuel Iling-Junior from his loan at Bologna since he isn't getting enough game time.

If we have any ambition, we should be looking to bring him in on loan for the rest of the season.

Anyone going to suggest any permanent transfers, or just loans?

I know, I just can't see this Reading lad being prepared to come here to sit on the bench if he's as good as everyone says.

Edit: Then when everyone's fit he's got to compete with Hyam/Carter/Wharton/Batth/ and to a lesser extent O'Riordan.

If he's as good as everyone says he is you relegate Batth to the bench as cover (if you extend his contract) or you sell Hyam.

If you stand still in this game you're dead.

Vale was at Hull last season and did nothing.

Collyer is making the bench for united every week and even if they decide to loan him ,rumoured Leicester have already asked for him.

Philogene Ipswich want and absolutely no chance he goes on a loan to a championship team

I hope all of these links are just the Scouting team doing their due diligence and things being linked.

Absolutely nobody is getting excited for the likes of Hanley, Schlupp et al holding up a Rovers shirt in January.

Go buy that CB from Reading. Convince Kent that we can rejuvenate his career and go and loan a big, strong, fast CF from a Premier League team that we couldn't possibly afford. It's not rocket science.

I think Schlupp would be a very decent signing.

Hanley I would pass on

Take all that onboard. They were just a few examples of what is available and that they are being sent out on loan. Might be that the parent clubs want them getting 90 minutes of senior football in the championship, rather than sitting on the bench in the Prem.

Anyway, if we are to make any loans, lets hope they are more like Beck and less like Fleck!
