We compete every week, we just don’t have the quality of player the likes of Sheffield Utd have. They had Hamer on the bench. He’d be our best player.

Stoke, like ourselves, are an established Championship team who are likely to finish midtable, which is about the best we can hope for.

You could argue that we lacked ambition in the game but I didn’t think effort was lacking from the players. They’re just not good enough. Sheff United were just better in every department.

I’ve backed them to win the league and still think they will. They can play good football, break quickly and also just toss it in and go direct. They will adapt their style depending on the opposition and how the game is going.

I think reality is dawning for many that we did in fact have a terrible transfer window - Beck and Cantwell aside.

Eustace talked of Baker like he was the Championship Iniesta yet he’s barely played a minute.

Gueye couldn’t trap a bag of cement.

Ohashi looks every inch the freebie untested at Championship level.

I could go on.

I’m personally underwhelmed by Eustace and our recruitment team but the buck starts and ends with our owners. Years and years of neglect was always going to bite us on the arse sooner rather than later and despite the (IMO misleading) start to the season, it could well end up being this time round that we do drop.

Luton’s bubble burst very quickly.

Ipswich did well to carry the momentum of promotion from League One into their Championship form.

Mowbray had the opportunity to do similar with us, but he overthought it and instead chose to drop anchor.

The final table will essentially reflect how much each club has spent.

Sheffield United are clearly a strong side at this level and would beat us more often than not.

Our squad is clearly still lacking in certain areas and we are a middling side, at best.

It didn’t help that our recruitment set up was only completed shortly before the beginning of the season, which led to a flurry of hasty, late window signings.  
That isn’t conducive to a promotion push.

how many times have we been on the verge of building a good side that could challenge for the top six???only for venkys to ruin the show by either selling and  giving the better players away or cutting the managers budget,they don`t want us promoted

They both had large wage budgets (*) when they were promoted from the championship.  This was especially true of Ipswich who had an average Championship wage budget when they were in League One

All comes down to the owners, not the Head Coach and his staff.

The exception is when we hire a total clown, such as Coyle.

The Head Coach at Rovers can do no more than make the best of a bad job.
