v Sheffield Utd (h) - 2/11/2024

Recommended Posts

After that pathetic performance, we're in for a long hard season sliding down the table. Toothless in attack ( we wouldn't have scored if the ref had  added another 90 minutes on) pathetic in defence, stood about like zombies while they walked past us, and if it hadn't have been for pears it could have been 0-5.

current worst jobs on earth

front line ukranian soldier

vladimir putins political opponent

sellafield nuclear waste clean up operative

centre forward for blackburn rovers

for the first time this season we looked disorganised and lacking in purpose, credit to sheff utd, they are extremely well drilled and every man knew his job,im`e confused as to what eustace was really trying to do,if you are going to try and defend then at least attempt to hurt the other side by going on the counter,i did`nt see anything that looked likely to produce a chance and felt sorry for yoshi, who did an admirable job with no support,as it stands,i doubt even a top class centre forward would score many in our side

after 14 years of indian occupation ,the pain of getting outthought and out muscled does`nt really bother me anymore, like the old martial arts experts who used to smash their legs against a tree, after so long you don`t feel anything

Pears isn’t good enough

Brittain and JRC are shit at defending. Both are a liability. They gave a goal away each. We need a RB who can defend.

Beck is quality.

Hyan and Baath were fine at CB and were largely untroubled by Moore.

T and T are fine in CM.

Cantwell is quality.

Hedges, Dolan, Gueye, Ohashi and Weimann just aren’t good enough, and until we sign better attackers we’re going to struggle in the final third.

we just don’t have the resources or strength in depth of most clubs in the Championship.

Fuck off Venkys

What game were you watching? Carter never played 🤔

All of Eustace, for me… and has been for the last few weeks. The bloke has no plan b if we go 1 down.

I don’t think the squad’s that bad, but the way we’re setting up to play, is making everyone else look like world beaters.

Plan B is our starting eleven, don't think Eustace meant for Dolan and Hedges to start every game this season.

Man for man Blades are a better side unfortunately. It's as easy as that, and we won't beat the stats forever. We replaced someone who can't hit a cow's arse with a banjo (Gallagher) with another one who's just as bad, but that doesn't understand tactics and can only play in one role. Downgrade.

Ohashi seems to have found his level, he works hard but gets muscled out really easily and makes the wrong decision a lot the time. Tough task today though, I'll give him that.

Who could you play as actual wingers from the current (fit) squad?

I would be more inclined to play a back 3, with Beck and Brittain as wing backs and Cantwell behind 2 strikers.

                       GK

        Hyam   Batth   Pickering

Brittain    Travis   Tronstad     Beck

                  Cantwell

           Ohashi    Gueye

At least Beck and Brittain can put a cross in, and having 3 men behind them would allow them both to concentrate more on going forwards

Really poor.

Not surprised when our main options are Dolan & Hedges.

Priority in January HAS to be a winger...I hope the club are speaking with others re Dolan as we need to cash in on him fast.

Different level Rak-Sakyi from our wingers.

That was an awful watch. Nowhere near competing with Sheffield Utd today who were better organized both in defence and attack. My ratings:

Pears 6 - made some decent saves, could've done better with Campbell's first shot at goal as the rebound came back straight to him. Would like to see Toth in one of the upcoming games against either Stoke or Cardiff.

Beck 6 - committed himself in the challenges as always but struggled with Rak-Sakyi's pace & skills throughout the game.

Hyam 7 - won at lot of challenges and was the best defender on the day.

Batth 6 - questionable positioning for the second goal as Campbell was left unmarked inside the box.

JRC 3 - shocking clearance for the first goal. His lack of vision/awareness has been exposed previously in the cup against Blackpool this season. Nowhere near the starting XI for me, neither as a right back, central midfield or any attacking midfield position.

Travis 5 - gave away a couple of freekicks in dangerous areas and struggled to get forward to support the attackers.

Tronstad 6 - made some good interceptions but didn't offer any quality passes when in possession.

Cantwell 8 - by far Rovers' best player on the pitch. Only one who looks composed on the ball and making right decisions.

Dolan 3 - looks panicked and lost for finding any solutions when in possession. Dwells constantly on the ball, can't beat his marker for pace and overall football intelligence is lacking. Nowhere near starting XI for me.

Hedges 3 - missed a great opportunity to get Rovers back on level terms. Works hard and tracks back but overall attacking skills and pace is severly lacking. Alibi player. Nowhere near starting XI for me.

Ohashi 6 - Battled with Souttar and Burrows for long balls which was a total mismatch. Work rate and commitment was good as usual but isn't suitable in playing as a lone striker against physical teams in the league. Better off playing together with a target man or take a position on the left wing to cut inside as he's probably the best finisher the club has at the moment.

Subs:

Brittain 5 - gave away possession which led to the second goal. My preferred choice as right back but his defensive skills and decision-making are questionable at times.

Weimann 5 - didn't provide anything of note when he came on.

Pickering 5 - slotted in at left back when Beck pushed forward up the field to chase a goal. Beck is my preferred choice as left back however and think Pickering will struggle to back into starting XI.

Buckley 5 - has regressed in the past season. Do possess some good technical skills but decision-making is at times poor.

Gueye 4 - needless challenge when booked. Only target man in the club but hasn't been utilized to the best of his abilities. Technically poor so would have to learn to play simple passes, win aerial duels and get into the box for crosses. Feels like the sending off against B***ley and coming off the bench in subsequent matches has made his confidence drop a bit.

Overall match plan: 4. Feels like Eustace has gotten stuck with selecting same type of players who hasn't shown that they deserve their place in starting XI (Dolan, Hedges, JRC). Booting it long for Ohashi, Hedges and Dolan to compete in the air is a complete mismatch and didn't work at all. Team is struggling to play out of defence when being pressed and doesn't have a target man to aim for when hitting long balls (when Gueye isn't on the pitch). Defensively the team is better organized than it was under JDT, but Eustace is lacking any real solutions attacking-wise. I don't see any combination play, overlaps/underlaps, skills in 1 v 1- situations etc., just a bunch of alibi players who shies away from making a difference. Hope to see Cozier-Duberry back soon as he seems to be a proper winger with pace and skills, unlike Dolan and Hedges.

You don't understand people getting frustrated at 2 solid months of half-arsed, low effort performances?

Wait, you think those are low effort performances?

I think it's a team going flat out - which is why we struggle to back it up when we have 2 games a week.

Dolan, Hedges, Weimann, Buckley, Pickering, Pears - all L1 players.

Sheffield United brought Harmer off the bench ffs.

You expect effort and bravery.  Talent doesn't always come out on top. Most of these players are rubber dinghy men

I thought it was another credible performance from Beck, Hyam, Batth, Tronstad, Travis and Cantwell. Ohashi fluffed his lines, Dolan and Hedges aren't good enough and sadly JRC will always be marked down for his poor clearance.

I don't question their effort and bravery, I question their talent.

93 mins in and we have had zero shots on target. Their keeper has made zero saves...and we're the home side.

Had more possession though so it's all good👍🏻

Was the Hedges miss as bad as I thought it was from the stands?

The overhit Ohashi pass to Cantwell was an absolute stinker.

I think I know what you mean but what's an "alibi player" ?

Lack of quality in attack is really showing now. I moaned all summer about wingers and we failed to sort it which is showing massively. We have no pace power or threat, basically creating nothing.

What’s worse is the pissing about at the back has crept in again which doesn’t suit our players at all.

It’s a shame as we have the makings of a solid team if we just had the aforementioned wingers instead of Dolan and Hedges we would be much more threatening.

The goals have completely dried up and I think it’s inevitable we find ourselves battling at the bottom without some new players in January.

A shake up of the starting 11 is needed. Hedges and Dolan seem to be getting a free pass into the line up each game.

Their performances have been appalling. Dolan, I have said for years... just doesn't have it.

But this what you get when you sign 9 players and pretend you've invested money when the reality is you're barely spending a penny but are selling players for tens of millions. Most fans appear to have been fooled once again.

Cantwell will exit this team fast.

We received £4 million from the Raya deal (not even our player sale) and didn't even spend that as a bonus in summer. Like it never happened. Was it wired our bank of India account along with the Szmodics money?

A man who carried us game after game sold for £8 million and not a penny reinvested.... unless the original end of season transfer budget was ZERO?

Just 6 months before that we sold Adam Wharton for £21 million. The owner's are taking the p!ss out of the fanbase year after year after year and getting away with it.

We got £2 million for Ennis and Gallagher for gods sake!! Which is nearly all we've spent.

can anyone explain the insane tactic of not leaving anyone up when we have to defend a set piece, the bloody ball comes right back at us,cantwell.dolan and yoshi are more a hinderance when it comes to defending, leave one on the centre circ;le and another in midfield, the other side will have to bring 4 back and we`ll have an outball.it`s basic common sense imo

Hedges should've made better contact with it, but it still wasn't granted he would be able to wrap his foot around it fully to convert it.
