He is not sharp enough for this standard. He gets caught offside so often and he regularly takes one touch too many and loses the ball.

I don't know about that. He's shown in flashes he has some quality.

It's like anything with this club though, he should probably be a 3rd choice striker but we're flogging him after he's already played a full season.

I don't think a full season prior to this can be helping him at all either! Players need a break. 

Nor is it our fault we've a) not brought in enough strikers and b) those we have are not good enough.
