I am not saying that Pickering is better than Beck, just that having one attacking full back and one who tucks inside to make a back 3 in possession definitely seems to have benefits to Rovers, and was working well in the early weeks of the season before injuries made it more difficult to implement. Fingers crossed we can bring back Hill from Bournemouth (or someone similar) on loan in January, and play him and Beck as full backs for the second half of the season. Pickering is underrated as a defender. Not many goals come from his side of the pitch when he’s playing. He’s a good one-on-one defender and doesn’t make many costly mistakes. What lets him down is his lack of pace. Compare with JRC and Brittain who are prone to individual errors that lead to goals conceded. Neither of those players are good defenders. Brittain is good going forward and has a good cross on him. JRCs best games imo came in CM under JDT.

You don't rate Hedges do you? In the first half he was good, but second half he didn't do much.. Why did you think Cozier-Duberry will be ready to a start the first game after the international break given he would have been out for a while? I notice you were nowhere to be found after we lost against Stoke yet here u are lording it over other fans with an opposite opinion to yourself after we finally win

Pickering also had a good game yesterday, the run he made for Travis to thread it through to him for the 2nd goal was perfect. I think Beck is an option to play further forward at times with Pickering operating behind him. Beck seems less afraid to take on a man or two than Hedges or Dolan.

I was thinking about this watching the game yesterday. Helps that Pickering has played well in the last 2. Could Beck perhaps be deployed left wing in the meantime?
tomphil
Then there are Bumley fans on facebook trying to pour scorn on it until it's pointed out they only took 200 more to WBA and not many more to Millwall. That's piss poor for such a massive outfit who were in the Prem about 8 of the last 10 seasons, didn't take long for their awayday boosting hangers on to disappear now they aren't storming this league. They truly are a breed apart from normality.

AllRoverAsia
Cardiff fell asleep during the 37 passes in our own half. Pears gets the most passes award. The final 4 or 5 passes were good though.

In spite of me being a critic of Pepball - every time you make a pass the opposing players all have decisions to make, every one, no matter how far the ball is away. Most of the time they get the decisions right and nothing happens. But occasionally one of the opposition nods off, doesn’t make the correct decision, and there’s your chance.
Ricky
I was having a right moan about the ball constantly going back to Pears before we scored. Shows what I know I guess
Exiled in Toronto Mk2
It’s not as though our first 37 passes were a cunning plan to bamboozle opponents, they were a symptom of our lack of ability to play it out from the back, rooted in Pears’ chronic indecision plus both centre backs always needing two touches IMO. Interesting that Hyam played right side, he was definitely less crap than usual.

Meant that our least mobile defender on the day (Batth) was in the middle of the 3 at the back when Rovers had the ball so the defensive unit was more protected and solid * Not that Pickering and Hyam are particularly mobile, but Batth is the least agile of the 3 Amusingly enough, Hyams move to the right comes less than 2 weeks after he was quoted saying he prefers playing on the left “I must have played 95 per cent of my career on the left,” he grinned. “I am happy playing and there so are few left-footed centre-backs about.“I have become so used to it that it would probably feel a bit strange playing on the other side now. I just want to be on the pitch.” Edited November 10, 2024 by KentExile

It was a great effort especially considering the disregard shown to them with a third 12.30 kick off on the bounce. I dont rate Hedges, no. He has shown over a number of seasons that he is incapable of producing in the final third on anything other than a very sporadic basis. He had a great chance to do something yesterday and made the wrong decision. Was clean through v Stoke and took too long. I dont have a clue how close ACD is, I just would like to see him in the side ASAP to get Hedges out and to give us some pace. Ohashi wasnt one of the two players no, my comment was in reference to the idea that Pears and Hedges were scapegoated. But I dont think that he is up top being a regular striker at this level, nor was he intended to be. Eustace referenced him as a Telalovic replacment when he signed. Problem is, Gestede found an absolute donkey in Makhtar Gueye so Ohashi has to keep being our main striker. You wasnt seen post Stoke, but have been very keen to dismiss the idea that Gueye's lack of success has been in anyway down to his lack of movement/anticipation, and purely on a lack of chances created for him. Cantwell put a header on a plate for him midweek and he still missed, has your opinion on Gueye changed at all? 5 hours ago, M_B said: How can you come up with an "opinion" like that without knowing the stats, yet accuse me of fabricating an idea? Eustace tried Beck further forward in the Sheffield United game. He's very much Warnock reincarnated - he doesn't have the feet to play as an attacking player.
