roversfan99 Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Definitely a game we need to be winning, Portsmouth are not a good team and at home its a huge opportunity we cant pass up after some bad form. Real issues in attack as we know, Leonard and Gueye arent Championship standard (the former hopefully will be in time) so I have reluctantly gone for Dolan. We need more from Cantwell. Midfield a issue too as to who to put next to Tronstad. Pears Brittain Hyam Batth Beck JRC Tronstad ACD Cantwell Weimann Dolan Quote

Tyrone Shoelaces Posted January 12 Posted January 12 It’ll be another tough game, we don’t do winning in a canter irrespective of the opposition. Anybody else think Earnshaw might get a game ? Quote
simongarnerisgod Posted January 12 Posted January 12 i will be disapointed beyond belief if we don`t get 3 points, their away from is shocking Quote

Andy Posted January 12 Posted January 12 (edited) I wouldn't be against starting with 2 forwards, even though it means a change in shape. Go old school with a 4-4-2, with Gueye and Leonard up top. Have a diamond central midfield, Tronstad sitting and Cantwell behind the front 2. Start fast, early couple of goals. Edited January 12 by Andy 1 Quote
chaddyrovers Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Dolan up front when you got Leonard and Gueye in the squad 🙄 1 1 Quote

Dolan isn't a striker with how Eustace plays. Play Leonard, good movement, gets in the right areas and has scored goals at this level. If you playing Gueye he needs runners around who can run beyond him Edited January 12 by chaddyrovers Quote
BlackburnEnd75 Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Pears Brittain hyam. Batth beck Tronstad. Buckley ACD. Dolan. Hedges Leonard Subs: toth, sanderson, JRC, forshaw, cantwell, weimann, gueye, youngsters. Quote

davulsukur Posted January 13 Posted January 13 No one starting Forshaw? I'm gonna because you're all so mean! ----------------------Pears Brittain----Batth----Hyam----Beck -----------Tronstad---Forshaw Dolan---------Cantwell--------Hedges --------------------Gueye Quote

No, but Dolan does unsettle defenders, and Leonard is more a poacher than a creator. Not sure about big Mak. Whatever happens, we need to keep a solid shape at the back, win the midfield battle and do what it takes to create chances. If we do that, there is every possibility of a positive result. COYB! I think Dolan and Big Mak are best employed as impact subs, from around the 60 minute mark. Quote
sharpysharps86 Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Must win, simple as. Pears Brittain Batth Hyam Beck Tronstad Buckley ACD Cantwell Hedges Leonard 2-1 win for Rovers. Leonard and ACD with the goals. 1 Quote

No games are easy until you’ve made them easy. Go out with the wrong attitude and it’ll be another 0-1 home defeat. As long as they’re in the game their confidence will grow. We need to be at it from the start. I’d start Gueye up front, at least you know he’s playing. 1 Quote

MarkBRFC Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Everyone beats these at home. Rovers 2 Portsmouth 0 Have to get back to winning ways here. 1 Quote
Old Codger Posted January 13 Posted January 13 I'm expecting JE to set the team up to be hard to beat, as usual, but I do have concerns about our relative toothlessness and lack of bite in front of goal. If Brittain is playing, I wonder whether they actually work on connecting up with his crosses in training - as when these come in during a live game, it is almost as if it is a surprise to our forward line. One thing is for sure - we shouldn't underestimate Pompey, and they have certainly shown signs of being able to turn it on away from home. Hoping for a ringing home win - Rovers 3 Pompey 0 Nervous for another no-show - Rovers 0 Pompey goal snatching rascals 1 Normal Service Resumes - Rovers 1 Pompey huff and puff 0 COYB!! Quote
