People could see the good sense in the appointment of Allardyce even if they didn't like his football or even him.

A lot have struggled with the word salad attempts to justify this appointment given his track record, he's every bit the mercenary going from pay off to pay off.

Better to be honest and say well we won't pay a serious coaches wages nor back him so we had to look in a specific market to fit our non budget. He applied and agreed to the terms etc, Rudy likes him, Suhail likes his low wages so we rolled the dice.

We won’t be getting any of what you describe from this regime (even if we expand what you mean by ‘comms’ to include basic marketing) so you might as well let it go.

My communication point when I first mentioned it was a general football point and opinion, not Rovers related

I see the club have gone all quiet on this front now. After everything kicked off and they came out and gave all those interviews, Gestede mentioned that there would be news on contracts over the next couple of weeks.

Signed Yuri up to a new contract but nothing else.

They might be having a long meeting, about how to answer the questions that Rory, has asked.

Ribeiro and Hyam extension.

Hopefully a couple more shortly like Brittain, Tronstad and Travis would give a massive boast for next season

Hyam's was an extension option (in his original contract) that was triggered, not a successful contract renegotiation

This is exactly the same thing that happened last summer with Gallagher & Dolan, or a few years ago with Brereton, Rothwell, Nyambe & Armstrong.  None of which ultimately signed a new contract, and were either sold on, or left on free transfers

As @KentExile has said, Hyam's contract extension was an option that the club took up, it's not a new contract and only kicks the can down the road another 12 months.

I doubt Riberio's contract was all that difficult to negotiate. I'd expect Hedges to be signed up soon and the actual important contracts of Brittain, Tronstad, Travis and Hyam to not be renewed and a couple of them sold this summer.

This is what I am expecting too - we'll renew Hedges, and others who should be squad players at best, but balls it up for Brittain, Tronstad, Travis.

If we could get contracts over the line, the core of this team is decent.

Travis and Tronstad together are a great centre midfield pairing in this league. Brittain and Ribiero are top quality full backs in this league. We have top half centre backs in Hyam, Carter, Batth, Wharton. Ohashi has proven himself to be a quality goalscorer in this league and Dolan is comfortably a top half Championship player despite what many say on here.

Our issue is and has been for a few years 1) depth - as shown again when the January injuries hit and the clowns thought the likes of Forshaw would suffice and 2) quality wingers / strikers - as shown by the number of appearances we've had to get out of Hedges this season.

As always, if we just spent £10m of the Wharton + Szmodics + Raya + Phillips money (it doesn't even need to be on the level of Coventry with Gyokeres and Hamer) for a proven winger, goal scorer and centre midfield depth and played Toth instead of Pears then I'd have no doubt we'd be in the Top 6 right now.

We have renegotiated one new contract for a first team player in the last 16 months which was Riberio. Hyam doesn't count as there was literally no negotiation for that to happen. I imagine Hedges will have his option triggered fairly soon too.

We aren't all of a sudden going to sign up 2 or 3 of those players you mentioned.

At best I can see one or two of Weimann Batth and Forshaw possibly signing new one year deals.

Dolan, Brittain, Tronstad, Travis and Hyam, will not sign fresh terms, because the club won't pay the going rate for experienced, established 24-28 year old players at this level.

I believe some negotiation goes on about triggered clause in contract. Someone mentioned it on here

Yes I know Mark thanks how many contracts renewals have been done. I think we will get a couple of those on new contracts

It doesn't.  The terms of the option are set in stone when the original contract is signed.

I believe what you may be referencing was someone stating that a player in the past got a pay rise when his option was triggered.  If this was true, it would have been a a case of either the player having an annual pay rise of x% stated in his contract, or having a pay rise of £X when he hit Y appearances.

Again, all of which would have been set in stone with the signing of the contract, no negotiation necessary

Renewing contracts is something to boast about?

There is no negotiation, the option might have a slightly higher base salary than the original contract, all depends what was drawn up at the the time Hyam signed.

I don't think any of them 4 players sign new deals.

Can say what he wants, Travis, Tronstad and Brittain have all come out in the past two weeks saying how much they would like to stay.

Doesn't matter a jot if we won't offer them the going rate to stay.

Which ones do you think are most likely to be extended?

Brittain and Tronstad. Travis hopefully.

Batth I hope gets done. Similar with Dolan, his agent was at Ewood Park on Friday.

3rd post I have seen you say that.

Agent's will do the rounds to watch there players all the time, maybe have a catch up.

It will have nothing to do with him signing a new deal here.

You've said multiple times now that Dolan's agent was at Ewood on Friday.

How do you know this?

And if indeed he was there, can you confirm that he was there to see Dolan specifically?

And if indeed he did see Dolan, did he discuss a contract renewal with him?

How do you know whose agent was at Ewood?

The club clearly publicised the Hyam extension earlier and more loudly than usual off the back of the public interviews. The spin has at least worked with one.

How are we going to get them to re-sign if we haven't even opened negotiations with them yet?

Also how can you say "it matters not a jot" if we don't offer them the going rate? It's absolutely vital. No player worth his salt is going to sign for less than he's worth simply because he's quite enjoyed his time here previously. Only players with no other option who no other Club would want (Hedges?) would do that.

Cos I witnessed him entering Ewood Park on Good Friday. I thought that was obvious tbh

Not that it has any bearing on whether he's likely to sign a new deal, but out f curiosity how do you know what Dolan's agent looks like?
