Popular Post Groundhog
On rewatch I'm appreciating the great little take down for the cross by JRC - its those little moments of quality that can gain an advantage in this division So many times we've seen other teams do that to us and make us pay.

Popular Post RutlandRover
Reflecting on last night I actually think Dolan did great. Not offensively, and he rightly gets some stick for it as that's his role, but he was an absolute pain in the ass when tracking back and getting behind the ball. His workrate was constant whilst he was on the pitch and I believe absolutely contributed to the overall defensive effort of the team. Lots of Labore just needs a little more Arte. JRC just needs 3 or 4 games together to get his match sharpness. He’s one of the best technical players in our squad and a very good championship player at this level. If he stays fit, I’ve no doubt he will get back to the consistent form of last season when everyone was saying how good he is.

His workrate always puts the rest of the team to shame imo. I didn't actually think it was one of his better games last night though. As I posted last night I thought a number of players were well off it yet we still won which hopefully is a great sign.

Im not really a fan but if he's anything he's a right sided offensive midfielder rather than a FB for me.

I'm sure he'll keep it and its important to us that he does. That was my first impression watching it in real time too. The replays, however, make it look much more dubious, so we'll have to see. Agree it's important for the player and therefore us.

Hopefully 🤞🏻
oldjamfan1
I don't think the 'dubious goals panel' or whatever it is called will even look at that goal. If he touched it at all, which I think he did, then it's Big Mak's.

So many times it's Dolan that sets the tempo, Ohashi and Cantwell are now getting up to speed and it's a 3 man close down from the front. Dolan's defensive play is, in my opinion, the reason why Cozier-Duberry isn't getting a game from the start. Although he hasn't had much game time, I can't say I've seen anything from him which would tempt me to sacrifice Dolan's workrate to gamble on playing him.

DavidMailsTightPerm
All this reminds me of the Howard Kendall days. Though you have to give Pears some credit for 4 clean sheets - but he is still making a hash of simple saves and catches - only difference at the moment is that the ball isn't falling direct to a forward (though he has a worrying habit of palming into the danger area). To be fair to him, he has also pulled off some great saves. Gueye scoring last night could be even more important than the three points - a bit like Duncan Ferguson - given the right service he could be unstoppable.

His touch and general play were excellent last night. The way he rolled the defender for the stonewall penalty was very impressive. The problem is he probably would have missed if he went clean through from that turn! The sending off against Burnley really impacted his game, he was brilliant before that. Hopefully last night was a turning point. He rolled that supposed “ top class “ centre half at the dingle dome like he was a schoolboy in the incident that led to his sending off.

The goal clip starts running with Beck performing heroics on the left but immediately prior to that Gueye had received and instantly controlled then passed accurately an incredibly difficult ball with. two Wednesday defenders close to him. There were at least two other "he's not going to control or even get to that" moments from Gueye in his brief cameo. He looks ungainly and a bit uncoordinated and when he messes up he is so big there is no hiding place but I haven't changed my opinion that Gueye can play and is a serious upgrade on Gallagher. Could you see Gally getting up for a contested header like that one last night ? For a giant his heading ability was really poor, especially when the ball was there to be contested.

Evidence from the beginning of this season would suggest otherwise. He was poor when he started the first few games there. JRC best is playing the inverted full back role drifting into midfield rather than the up and down the wing full back that Eustace prefers.
rigger
I don't think JRC has a best position. But he can cover a number of positions just about adequately, a typical squad player.

Commondore
We’ve had similar great runs under Mowbray and JDT only to get found out, but the difference this time around is that we’re so much better defensively and have a much more balanced squad. Long may it continue. Great to see Gueye finally get of the mark, great work getting over the shoulders of his defender but I have a gnawing feeling that header is very close to ramming the crossbar rather than going in. Gav
Got to say I obviously enjoyed the win, but goodness me the football on show for the most part was awful. Two bad sides, first goal won the match was the view in the pub beforehand and that was born out at 9.30pm. The only quality in Wednesday side was Bannan, wand of a left foot and the headed chance in the first half he setup with a whipped cross right on the lads head should have put Wednesday 1 up, but thankfully he fluffed his lines. I agree with the comments on Dolan, lad ran his balls off and looked a real danger, Gueye doesn't look like a footballer for the most part, but made up for the lad with his goal. Hillsborough is a bit rough around the edges these days, a great old ground with a decent atmosphere when they get going, I'll be back in New Year for the Sheffiled derby, apparently its some occassion. Onwards and upwards.

sharpysharps86
Only just found time to come on here but WOW, what a win....another 1 nil as well. This team is continuing to surprise me since the Stoke defeat. From no away wins to 4 in a row. That is really impressive achievement and Eustace continues to work wonders with this group of players. Delighted for Gueye. Many of us have been critical of him and rightly so as he's been poor, but I don't think you'll find a single Rovers fan on here who isn't delighted to see him on the scoresheet. Simply wonderful.
