How about listing the most disappointing purchases we've made recently?

I'll start with:

Evil Empire by Rage Against The Machine (yes I know I ought to have heard it ages ago) was a real let down next to the quality of the first album

The Golden Age Of Grotesque is nowhere near the standard I'd come to expect from Marilyn Manson (apart from Smells Like Children, it was God-awful).

Winterheart's Guild by Sonata Arctica. Strange, this one sounded great when the guy in the shop was playing it, but when I heard it at home it was just keyboard-heavy generic Power Metal.

I recently bought The Coral's first album and the Cooper Temple Clause's second album - they're both crap.

Picked up Jeff Buckley's "Grace" for £6 in HMV today. Absolute bargain.

Disappointing stuff recently acquired: -

Jet - poor - read the reviews and all that but very average.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - 2nd album - just like the first - no new tricks - maybe I have to play it a bit more.

Queens of the Stone Age - Their first album is - on the whole - pants. Their second and third on the other hand are marvellous.

The Darkness - what a load of old pony. Fortunately I didn't buy it - just got a copy. Ironic? There's nowt ironic about being sh***.

I like the uptempo tracks on the Jet album, but the slow stuff is boring. I like the new BRMC album though, especially the first 3 tracks. Cooper Temple Clause - I was well disapointed with this. I was expecting loads of stuff like promises, promises but it all dull, static stuff - yawn.

The new Mojave 3 album is top though (Spoon and Rafter), and also the new Belle & Sebastian album is a grower, I especially like the track "Step Into My Office, Baby".

The Motorhead box set looks interesting. I've got quite a bit of stuff on there already. It doesn't have the best Motorhead track on there though (IMHO) - Locomotive. Class track!

Unbelievable! There's 99 tracks on that box set and your favourites not on there! What are the chances? You don't sit on the Riverside do you?

You can probably pick up No Remorse on CD for 6 - 7 quid (which has Locomotive on) as a cheap alternative anyway. Top drumming!

Queens of the Stone Age - Their first album is - on the whole - pants. Their second and third on the other hand are marvellous.

Strange, I think the first album is the best of the three (Rated R being the worst). Regular John is an amazing song.

Just goes to show that it's all about opinons - one mans cup of tea is anothers pint of mild. Third LP is the best for me.

Mansun's first album was briliiant.  I haven't heard the one you mention but they are a top band.

It will come as no shock to anyone to know that I am currently listening to Lost Dogs the new album by Pearl Jam.

The new DVD Pearl Jam live in The Garden New York is pretty special too.

Afterall, you can't get enough of a good thing!

In the near future, I plan to be listening to the Inspiral Carpets' new greatest hits album and the Wonder Stuff's "Cursed with Insincerity", both of which I've asked for for Christmas.  So, if anyone has views on either which are worth listening to, I'd be happy to hear them.

I think Dragging Me Down and This is how it feels by the Carpets are 2 of the best songs ever (at the moment)!

Everyone...and I mean EVERYONE...should listen to Dispatch. They have broken up now...but great stuff. Small band from CT...been listening to their stuff for a couple years and I can still listen to it for an entire day (look for the song "The General")

How is the Inspirals greatest hits different to the singles collection which came out about 5 years ago? "I Want You" is still the last song I play before I go out on the lash, always puts me in the mood. "She Comes in the Fall" and "Two Worlds Collide" also big faves chez Morph.

Was lucky enough to see the last ever gig by the Stuffies before they split in '98 (?). Was at the Phoenix Festival, last song they did was "Dizzy" and Vic Reeves ran out to join them; top stuff (no pun intended).

Was wondering if anyone had heard the last Thea Gilmore album (think it's called Avalanche). Really like the single "Mainstream" (?), is the album worth buying?

Morph, wouldn't know as I haven't got it - it's just that I've decided it's time I owned some - I've got enough on compilations like Unbelieveable, but I want a bit more.

The Wonder Stuff are touring again, certainly in December.

Nelsta, play it to the child, and the child will sleep - that way you can sing along as much as you like!  Gracie asks for the Strokes and Frank Sidebottom to be played these days, along with a healthy smattering of Bob the Builder and the Snowman!

This last month I have been mostly listening to Athlete's album after a mate gave me a couple of tickets to their concert in Liverpool as he couldn't make it and they were excellent!  Supported well by Alfie whom I have seen a couple of times.

This month I will mostly be listening to new Blur stuff as I'm off to see the later in the month and not too up on their recent stuff, i.e. their latest album.

How is the Inspirals greatest hits different to the singles collection which came out about 5 years ago?

It's actually a double CD and single DVD - one CD is the greatest hits plus some new stuff, one CD is rare, b-sides, unreleased stuff and the DVD has all the videos, some live stuff and an interview with the band.  Best album I've bought in ages!

Cheers MancRover, sounds like it's going on my christmas list too! Always thought the singles collection was a bit of a rushed job, they couldn't even get the track listings in the sleeve notes to correspond with the actual running order on the CD, so this one sounds like a major improvement.

Didn't know the Stuffies had even reformed Rosie, is the new album all new material? All we need now is for Ned's Atomic Dustbin to announce a comeback tour and I'm 17 all over again.
