CornwallRover Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 I'm currently loving Head Automitica, they've got a video on Kerrang called Beat Heart Baby, it's great.

Rovermatt Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 Just listened to "Smile" by Brian Wilson - a towering achievement as good as the hype suggests. As someone for whom the Beach Boys never did anything, I find myself puzzled by how good this album is and how it it defied all my prejudices based on Wilson's former band. If you buy nothing else but this you will have done well. I've been listening to some of my dad's Beach Boy CDs. Lots of quality, lots of weird, contrived nonsense. Smile is supposed to be the real deal though. Did anyone see the Beach Boys programme on the BBC a couple of weeks ago? It's quite sad how the whole thing fell apart. Wilson's genius was off-set by his shyness and his eventual descent into insanity. The bloke is a complete nutter now, he may still be living in his shed from the look of him.
Drummer Boy Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 You may well be right - what is it someone said about the thin line between genius and insanity? As for the Beach Boys, I'm prepared to compromise my previous position and recognise that "Pet Sounds" is top notch stuff.
Dan Furness Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 Radaghast..... Just to kick it off again, nice to see the 'normal' public recognise the best live band this country has to offer
stegraham Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 Radaghast..... Just to kick it off again, nice to see the 'normal' public recognise the best live band this country has to offer Yeah, but recently didn't Robbie Williams song "Angels" get voted the best song of the last 25 years!??
Dan Furness Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 Elton's song 'Angels' yes. Main act should have been MUSE, as they stole the show last year. Sheer class I WANT IT NOW I WANT IT NOOOOOOOOOW
Radagast Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 Radaghast..... Just to kick it off again, nice to see the 'normal' public recognise the best live band this country has to offer Yeah, but recently didn't Robbie Williams song "Angels" get voted the best song of the last 25 years!?? Yeah, what he said. The day the 'normal' public vote a decent band for something is the day part of me dies.
Dan Furness Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 I agree, but its nice to see the normal public actually appreciate a proper band.
Rovermatt Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 Muse are about as alternative as the 'normal' public are willing/able to go.
Scotty Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 Can we not just start a Muse thread then Dan can continue to w@nk over his precious band on his own while the rest of us talk about music?
Ste B Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 Can we not just start a Muse thread then Dan can continue to w@nk over his precious band on his own while the rest of us talk about music? Or just Ban Dan. Perhaps we should start a poll. Who actually voted for Muse.. it certainly wasnt the general public and even if that was the case it was put together by a few record execs who decide which bands to push.
S15 Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 Hahahaha.... Derek and The Domino's are in the cd player at the moment... That version of Little Wing is soooooooooooo good.
Tony Diamond Inc Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 Just been listening to Athlete's new album - good stuff. The single Wires has to be one of the most beautiful songs of this or any other year. Also, finally, got the Zutons album - got to listen to it lots before I go and see them next month. Completely agree about Athlete - tremendous album! We have more in common than I would have dared to imagine Got the Zutons a few months back, and there are some very good tracks, but it's not a great!
UbuRoi Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 It's a Mogwai antipasto. Followed by Boards of Canada as the primo. Finishing off with the usual Pere Ubu pudding of course. Molto Bene.
Drummer Boy Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 Today it has been: BloodSugarSexMagik - this one has aged well - as fresh now as it was then Also, Nick Cave's new double CD is very good
Rovermatt Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 For those who like hip-hop, I recommend the Beastie Boys' To the 5 Boroughs and Jurassic 5's full studio debut Quality Control. Both are fantastic samples of the genre.
Radagast Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 Ok, today it has been Falconer - Chapters From A Vale Forlorn (oooooh!) Nightwish - Wishmaster Sonata Arctica - Reckoning Night and Riot - ThunderSteel - now this is an unnoticed classic. Any fans of Painkiller-era Judas Priest have to listen to this.
Dan Furness Posted February 15, 2005 Posted February 15, 2005 Can we not just start a Muse thread then Dan can continue to w@nk over his precious band on his own while the rest of us talk about music? Yeh I vote that

CornwallRover Posted February 15, 2005 Posted February 15, 2005 Also, Nick Cave's new double CD is very good Nice Cave is bloody brilliant, if you've not got any of his other stuff, i'd reccomend buying the back catalogue.
