4,000 Holes Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 (edited) For the last few years, 4,000 Holes has been establishing a ‘101 Great Goals’ collection. These have been put forward as fanzine articles by a variety of Rovers supporters – please email roversfanzine@gmail.com with a write-up to get yours included! The rules are very relaxed. It can be a Goal of the Season contender, a promotion-winning strike, a scrappy effort which broke a goalscoring duck, or one which is memorable for any other obscure reason. Some maverick has even added a couple of goals scored against Rovers into the list! On that note, here's Matt Le Tissier's induction from this day 30 years ago. The best goal Ewood has ever seen? https://www.brfcs.com/articles/101-great-goals:-matt-le-tissier/2097 Edited March 20 by 4,000 Holes 4 Quote

We don’t get to the byline often enough. What a killer ball that was from Pedersen. Really hard to defend against when you’re running back towards your own goal. All crosses don’t have to be head high. 5 Quote

roverandout Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Alan Shearer's incredible sideways overhead kick. Quote
4,000 Holes Posted March 20 Author Posted March 20 Number 21 on the list is Alan Shearer's crucial late equaliser at Coventry during the 1994/95 title run-in. If anyone wants their own favourite added to the collection, please email roversfanzine@gmail.com with a write-up and we'll publish it in the forthcoming April issue of 4,000 Holes! https://www.brfcs.com/articles/101-goals-shearers-mission/2145 Quote

Not only a great goal but one that totally changed the atmosphere and momentum of the game. Along with Shearer's 2nd against Man U in 93/94 season. In my 50 years of watching Rovers probably the two goals that I reacted to (embarrasingly?) the most! Although falling over after Marcus Bent's goal at Turd was also pretty embarrassing!! You can of course put forward those - superb shouts! But goals only get inducted to the list with an article😅 If you're keen to write a short piece about either for April's issue, then please fire it over to roversfanzine@gmail.com Quote

When I played full-back I was always looking to block those crosses as knew they were a nightmare for the rest of the defence. Shearer's goal at Anfield the day we won the league another great example. Quote
