I'd have Baker instead of Dolan

Buckley could be the answer rather than Baker. Buckley played the forward pressing position very well on numerous occasions last season. His lack of pace is what holds him back from being the full box to box midfielder package but doesn’t limit him in the more advanced Cantwell role.

Potential banana skin - An interesting game as it’s the first in a while where the onus will be on us to attack them and win. So, Luton could come and sit with a ‘Low block’.

I’d be tempted to start with a 442, put Dolan on the right, and play Yuki and Gueye as a two up against their three cb’s. Get on the front foot and in attack, we could match them up as a 343, with Brittain pushing on down the right and Dolan drifting in.

Lets see if Yuki and Gueye can play together!!!

                     Pears

.     Hyam.    Bath.    Pickering

Brittain.    Trav.  Sonny.       Beck

.                     Dolan

.              Gueye.   Yuki

Subs - Hilton, Mcfadz, Litherland, JRC, Buckley, Baker, ACD, Hedges, Leonard

I had to Google the meaning of a low block, as I figured it wasn't just groin area protection 😅.

For the benefit of my fellow philistines:

'Low block means defending deep to deny space and create a compact shape for teams to try and break down'.

Cant see him changing formation.

Worried about this one to be honest, Luton are a team who are more aggressive than previous opponents.

1-1

Dangerous- expectations of a win but they have a fabulous keeper and came very close to avoiding relegation from the PL last season. Luton have been hit badly by injuries this season so will be even more dangerous opponents when players come back.

On current form we will have too much for them but I fear we will miss Cantwell far more than we missed Travis at Hull.

He’s let in 20 in their last 6 away games.

Looking at Luton's recent results its a real mixed bag, the definition of an inconsistent mid table side.

Will be interesting to see what Eustace does regarding team selection. Is Brittain still going to be missing? If not then he'll have to make a choice for right back as well as who comes in for Cantwell. If Brittain is available then I can see JRC being pushed further up on the right and then Dolan coming into the middle....Alternatively I wouldn't be surprised to see Ohashi move back into the number 10 role with Gueye coming in from the start after his successful cameo in midweek. Either way, Cantwell is a big loss.

I think it'll be a draw. 1-1.

There was a time I would have agreed with you but the lad has hardly played this season.

We shouldn't be treating a draw here as a good result just because we've managed to do very well and exceed expectations in our last few games.

We need to take this in isolation, forget about the last few games and go all out to beat this lot at home.

We certainly owe them one - don't think we've beat them since they came up from League One a few years ago and must have had 5-6 attempts at it now.

Their away form is horrific, as is their goals against column, so we need to be looking to exploit that.

Anything other than a win here will be a big opportunity missed going into Xmas. Of course going into the last batch of games we'd all be happy but we need to keep it going in games where we should be really confident.

Baker for Dolan and Dolan for JRC I think. That’s if everybody is 100% good to go. We’ll need some size and aggression in the team for Luton so Gueye would be a possibly starter.

According to the table above we have played them 8 times in recent seasons. We have won once, they have won 3 and there have been 4 draws.

If Brittain is fit I’d bring him back and put Rankin-Costello in the Cantwell role. That would be the only change.  I really don’t like Dolan and would like to see him dropped but manager seems to like him so he plays
