roverblue Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Feel quietly confident for tomorrow based on our home form. I expected Luton to be cruising the league but the reality has been very different for them. Going 2-0 rovers with Big Mak and Dolan to score. 1 Quote

Bohinen1983 Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Luton have some very good players. Their away form is shocking though. Rovers are in great form, however we did lose at home to Stoke.. Toss a coin on this one for me.. More inclined to think we'll pick up 3 points here though.. No hard feelings towards Kaminski but it'd be absolutely beautiful to see Pears on the winning side against his old 'master'.. 1 Quote
Rover down South Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 (edited) Feel more confident of three points in this fixture than I did in predicting the previous four, so……..3-1 Dolan, Travis & Baker. Edited December 13, 2024 by Rover down South Quote

Of course we are going to lose a game at some point. Hopefully not against Luton at home. Keep your chin up. I think it is telling that JE approaches each game on its merits and thinks in terms of what is in front of the team in the now, rather than extrapolating form into some sort of predictive indicator of our next result. To me this is the most level-headed and rational approach we have had at the helm for some time, and a very sensible tactic given the relative lack of difference between most teams in this league - I mean, Derby thumped Portsmouth 4-0 last night, despite their recent 'form' suggesting a more predictable outcome might be a low scoring draw... So let's just plod along as best we can, focus on the positives, play to our strengths and exploit our opposition's weaknesses where we can, and if that builds us a points tally that rewards us with a crack at a return to the higher echelons, let's enjoy the ride when the opportunity presents. Today's game is as winnable as any we have faced in recent weeks, but that doesn't automatically mean we will win - we just seem to want to win more these days under JE than we have as a team in other times up till quite recently. Football is inherently unpredictable, which is why it is so inherently interesting and frustrating at the same time. Whilst we are punching above our weight, I will very happily concede the odds to any opposition in return for a 'shock result' in our favour. What is frustrating for this afternoon is that having established an effective winning formula and a settled team whose elements and personalities blend and work together so well, we are forced to make changes to this due to a lapse in concentration from one of the catalysts of our cohesiveness. JE knows what he has in the tank, and will have done his homework about what the opposition can do to hurt us, so I expect we will be well set up (or at least as well set up as we can be in the circumstances). Another clean sheet would be fantastic. Another win would be amazing! But an untimely reverse wouldn't be the end of the world and I'd still feel confident that this group under JE would bounce back when it mattered. COYB!! 6 Quote
Ossydave Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 In August I doubt anyone expected us to be going into this match as favourites, Luton widely tipped to go back up, good squad of players and an excellent manager. Likewise if you look at the odds on both teams getting promoted now, we're 9/1 and they're 100/1! They only lost a few players such as Barkley and Ogbene but signed a few too and the manager remains, so what's gone wrong? From an outsider looking in, I get the impression some of those players got a taste of the prem and can't really be arsed with the hassle of the championship now. A team of underperformers against a team who at present at least are overperforming. There still remains the danger that if they wanted to they could do some damage to most teams. An awful away record and they havent even scored a goal, in 4 of their 9 aways. But we also know over the years how often we like to flip the form book upside down on that front! Hopefully our previous outing at home carries forward into this one, easy to forget we failed to win in the 3 games prior now.... Everything points to a 2 nil home win, but things can quickly go tits up in this league, let's hope today and the remainder of the season is different...... 1 1 Quote
