v Sunderland (h) - 26/12/2024

Travis is a massive loss- tell you what, very impressed with Lewis Baker today though. Appears a good signing that one.. We need a winger to replace Hedges, who I think is a solid squad player, however his end product is so often found wanting..  Get a proper striker in too- someone with a bit of pace or a Keiffer Moore type..

We dropped 2 points there. Take our chances and it’s 3-0 up at half time.

Sunderland fans will probably feel the same about the second half.

Which player used Gueye as a stepladder for the assist? I think we’ve found a use for Big Mak.

Batth I think. It was a massive effort….Gueye wasn’t getting there!

We were very lucky to escape with a point there after that 2nd half performance.

Really pleased for Leonard. Always thought he looked potentially a very good player as his general movement is excellent. All he's been missing is putting the ball in the net and he obliged today. Let's hope he can stay fit and kick on.

Beck is a real player but seems to see the red mist occasionally. Lucky he didn't connect when he lashed out with his elbow right at the end.

The midfield didn't do enough today, we were overwhelmed second half, Cantwell just flits about on the periphery of play for me and Tronstad was back to my usual perception of him, completely anonymous. Baker good first half, same as Tronstad second.

Travis is going to be a huge miss.

Dolan great overall, Hedges as we all know, nowhere near the required standard.

Gueye ungainly but caused a bit of chaos when he came on - maybe that's his best role going forward.

The need for January  reinforcements urgently underlined today before we drop off completely.

Eustace wants a striker and a left winger in Jan so let’s hope his prayers are answered.

I thought on the balance Dolan deserved man of the match, nobody played well overall in the second half (individual moments aside) but Dolan stood apart first half, granted his finish was a shocker but his running created a lot.

A game of two halves, we were the better team first half, they had us pegged back second half.

Dolan, unplayable at time, shocking at other times also!

Beck / Batth - excellent

Lewis and Tronstad were very good.

Pears - thank you so much.

Cantwell, Hedges - not good enough sorry.

Ohashi - Industrial but looks like he's running in treacle.

Gueye - I'm not convinced.

John Eustace is doing a great job, the tools he has available are mid table, he's definitely punching!

Disagree completely, unless the player in question is good enough to actually score on a regular basis when cutting inside then it neutralises them completely. It's relatively easy to defend when all the play is in front of you.

Well you won't see many wide players play on the side of their strongest foot in the top 8 of the Championship and above. Running down the wing and crossing is a basic ability expectation and the consensus is they should still be able to do it on their weaker foot. I'm not saying a good winger on their "correct" side isn't effective.... but the idea of "right footed winger on the right and left footed winger on the left" is dinosaur football, proven at the highest level. The reverse changes the size of the goal entirely for finishing when through on goal from a wide area.

I honestly don’t think Guye belongs on a football pitch.

Cantwell not good enough but you’re not sure on Gueye?

That’s some take!
