disapointing to lose against a side that is most likely going to be relegated ,but if you don`t create enough pressure and take the chances that come along then there is always the danger of them pinching a goal,i just hope we have a centre forward lined up in january ,thats the most important position, mahkter was worse than useless today

Much as I would love to be proved wrong, I whole heartedly agree on Gueye. To me he looks totally lost on a football pitch and his pathetic shot in the first half today, summed him up completely. It’s not the first time either, he is a dud so far in my opinion.

Gueye was poor today, but he certainly wasn’t alone in that regard. And I do think that the level of criticism that he receives is disproportionate compared to what the other players get.
Take the shot that you mentioned for instance - yes he dragged it, yes he probably ought to have done better, but that was greeted by chants of ‘bring on the Yuki’ (who was virtually non-existent when he was brought on btw). Less than a minute later ACD completely overhits a crossfield ball, smashing it out of play, and gets a round of applause.
It’s a funny old game, as they say!

We're hoping for a top six finish with a non scoring forward line?...lets have some realism tbh.

I think we all knew deep down it was going to end sooner rather than later but it's still bitterly disappointing to turn in such a poor performance and result (at home) regardless of whether you've overperformed previously.

Today was the antithesis of Boxing Day. There was an acute lack of energy, low tempo and very little intensity, three things that were the cornerstones of our six match winning run. It looked a game too far for too many of our players but a big factor was the missed chances, many of which looked easy from where I sit. Had we scored first I think we would have won but it wasn't to be. Although I rate Cantwell he really irritated me today with him taking too many touches and looking lazy. He needs to step up and start to create things for us which is why we signed him. Beck has flatlined too after such a great start for us but I don't really have concerns about him. Dolan was back to his 5/10 form today and Gueye just doesn't look like a Championship footballer. We need more from players that somebody whose perceived strength seems to be that he causes havoc. His movement in the penalty area is awful.

It's hugely important how we react to this defeat  and Eustace really needs to earn his money and come up with something for New Years Day. Personally I wouldn't be averse to going to a back five and just focus on tight defending and playing on the break.

I agree with playing on the break, that seems to suit us more IMO.

When the onus is on us to impose ourselves and make things happen, we just don't the quality to do that. Take today as an example; our forwards in particular were really poor and don't have enough about them to conjur up some magic.

I think the disappointment on here is more that we lost team who hadn’t won away in 8, and only scored 3 goals during that period.

@Forever Blue over-dramatised it by picking up that someone said the death spiral had started. I think your point is actually aimed at him - “you’re expecting us not to hit a death spiral with a non scoring forward line? let’s have some realism”

Absolutely no chance Hull go down. They've got a better squad than us.

Was it a poor performance or did we just refuse to take gilt edged chances?

Just by looking at stats shows which players have been underperforming in and around the penalty area. Cantwell obviously has his qualities as a playmaker but has been wasteful when trying to be on the end of attacks. As expected, Ohashi can be seen as our best finisher but is struggling acting as a lone striker against physical teams who sit in a low- or mid-block (hence his fairly poor overall rating of 6.47).

Had a quick look at who's performing well in League One and one who immediately stood out was left-winger Louie Barry who's been playing for Stockport but just got recalled by Aston Villa; 50 % of his shots (67) is on target, scoring 15 goals (whereof four from the penalty spot). His overall rating is high (7.42, placing him third in the league and 1st among attacking players) suggesting that he's a consistent performer. Would be madness if we weren't looking to sign him on loan, especially given how well Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is doing at Sheffield Utd. after having spent a season on loan at Charlton.

It was after we should have been 4-0 up in the first half.

The flip side of the coin is that we didn’t lose despite being outplayed in the second half and entering the final minute a goal down. Depends on whether you are a glass half full man or not I suppose.

I get the reaction to be honest, as you look at a 19 year old prospect, who will go on to better things and a miss firing striker, who has done that at least 4 times so far this season.

When we lose the next two, because we will from what I have seen over the past week or so, are we allowed to say 1 point from 15 is the start of a death spiral or do we just brush it off as playing good sides?

Was it the start of the death spiral when we had a bad run before our good run? Oh I think I answered my own question.

No Hasta,my point is clear.. we wil not be top six with our present strike force come season end.

I know. Most of us know. Very few people (if any) are saying they expect top 6.

It doesn’t mean today wasn’t a bad performance and can’t be called out as such.

Hull were awful until they scored. It's just the symptoms of a small underfunded squad, we can't afford to drop below 100% each game as we don't have the quality. The Christmas period was always going to test us and it's shown up our shortcomings. Today just like Boxing day, not having the composure to finish off chances has bitten us.

But if ACD scores in the 1st half , I think we get a comfortable win, it was an awful finish, like the others , then a slip for us and they are in, fine margins. We'll struggle come the meat of a season because we don't back managers with a proper transfer window to have options off the bench.

Cozier-Duberry flattered to deceive, seems to lack belief in his own ability and the tendency to come inside kills off any momentum to get round teams, but he seems to be prepared to graft unlike some of the other loanees we've had.

Gueye is frustrating, not a starter.

Dolan reminded me of a fly trying to get through a window. Loads of effort and persistence , but ultimately it's stupid and futile.

I don't think we will death spiral this year, as we are more solid, but it will take a monumental effort to not fade away.

Been a long term poster on here and like reading everyone’s points agree or disagree, if you go onto the telegraph or make any kind of negative comment on Facebook you either get people who are just completely oblivious or the low IQ fans who may have had a few beers or can’t generate a rational response.

The 6-match winning run was clearly an aberration and if you believe that everything reverts to the mean it is quite likely that we are now in the middle of a non winning sequence of matches.

If we’re honest thecteam has outperformed to date. It’s higher than it should be given we don’t have any decent forwards and generally lack quality. It’s a mid table team at best and that’s where I think we’ll end up

we`ll fade away unless there is an investment in players during the transfer window, wether eustace will get his reinforcements is doubtful given the history of past windows

Really disappointing today, the performance was worryingly lacklustre as was the atmosphere within the ground. Both will need to improve significantly if we are to play our respective parts to vanquish the great unwashed on the 4th January. Despite being poor and Hull claiming the sort of victory that we had been pulling off during our recent winning run, we had 4 or 5 gilt edged chances and should have taken the 3 points. The Dolan miss against Sunderland and those from Cantwell and Beck’s today were really poor and without a natural goal scorer, spurning such chances will see us dropping away from play off contention. Eustace is getting everything from this squad but we desperately need some quality offensive reinforcements brought in during this window.

We won six on the bounce. But there was an offside goal, a penalty, a definite own goal, a 50/50 own goal and a lot of near misses at our end in amongst all that.

Meanwhile we lost in the 96th minute at Millwall, should have been more than one up against Sunderland and if Cantwell buries that sitter I believe we would have won today.

It's very small margins affecting outcomes at this level.

Regardless, a lot of football has been played and we remain in the top six. Credit to all for their efforts to date.

The most frustrating thing about Gueye is that all of his teammates are stood miles away from him. Cantwell wanders all over the shop and Dolan / ACD are stuck on their wings. He wins the ball and it just gets turned over. One of the three has to gamble that he's going to win it.

Speaking of ACD, he'd be a worldie if he had any pace. Too many times today he cut back inside rather than driving at his man 'cos he knew he didn't have the pace to run past him.

I really think that the real issue with Gueye's heading of the ball is his timing. He just doesn't get the best connection on the ball and a few times today he was on the way down when he made contact with the ball. As much As I want him to succeed I just can't see the raw materials needed to be a decent Championship striker.

That start was the worst half of football at Ewood this season IMO. Got better in the 2nd and we were knocking on the door until the sucker punch. Hull then picked up and could have bagged one or two more.

Really disappointing but put in perspective with the squad quality, investment and ownership stuff we are punching well above my expectations this season. Just hope this isn’t the start of a slide been 3 poor results in a row.
