sharpysharps86
Hard to see anything other than a comfortable Leeds win here. In the midst of a hectic Christmas period I imagine several players are in need of a rest. This game at another time in the season then maybe we could nick something, but I think Eustace will rest one or two before the derby, plus we're really missing Travis and dare I say Pickering as well, as that would allow Beck to play in front of him, which would've probably been the call for this game. Leeds 3 - 0 Rovers

Mattyblue
Not a prediction if you have a set rule that says you won’t ever predict a defeat. Just a weekly ‘let’s hope we get a result’ post. Which is fair enough, but it’s meaningless as a prediction of how a game may go.

I got criticised on here yesterday for saying my minimum expectation before every home game was a win. Obviously I know we're not going to win every home game in practice and expectations are further tempered by injuries or loss of form at any given time. In my case it's more a case of refusing to accept that anything other than a win at home is a good result rather than actually expecting us to win every time. It does get a bit tedious reading certain posters predicting we're going to win every week though regardless of the opposition and form. It's as if they think it makes them a better fan than everyone else and really renders posting the prediction pointless.

Rovers 1 nil Ohashi to score. There is a difference between what someone hopes will happen and what they think will happen. We all hope for a positive outcome, but, on the evidence of yesterday, that doesn't appear likely. We need to buck the trend of terrible January Windows to avoid our standard second half of the season collapse.

Hasta
That left side was looking very, very good until Pickering got injured.
JCRovers
Pickering lacks pace but is well-suited in a mid or low block since he has a fairly good sense of positioning and anticipation / reading of the game. What's most disappointing in recent games has been the left-wing and central midfield positions; Hedges has been way off defensively of late (vs Sunderland) but I feel Cantwell should take part of the blame as well as he didn't track back before Hull scored. Our entire defensive solidity relies on doubling up on the flanks and have two hard-working defensive midfielders to protect centre-backs (Travis / Tronstad) when out of possession; Hedges and Dolan are normally quite effective in that regard but when they fail to track back, players like Beck or Brittain gets exposed in 1 v 1 or even 2 v 1 situations. Buckley and Cantwell are fairly poor at tracking back and are not suitable playing together in a central midfield for that reason alone. Pears Brittain Batth Hyam Beck Tronstad Baker ACD Cantwell Dolan Ohashi Would prefer Dolan over Hedges on the left and make him occasionally switch flank with ACD to provide outlets to go on the outside when counter-attacking. Gueye is probably better used as an impact sub to chase a goal or protect a lead. Edited December 30, 2024 by JCRovers

The amount of criticism he's had on this forum over the years suggests that plenty don't rate him. I'm not one of those by the way, I think he's a steady championship LB.

We only miss him because we have to play Beck in his position instead of further forward. Pickering is deeply average as a left back. Beck will be twice the full back Pickering will ever be, he’s got pace and aggression for a start. I said before the Sunderland game we'd miss him, we needed his experience against Roberts with Beck in front, the way Pickering nullified Doaks threat against Boro. Why it has to be a Beck v Pickering thing I don't know ? I simply said I don't know why anyone would think we wouldn't miss him. What the las two games have shown is that Beck can be caught out of position as he likes to get forward and that there is no understanding or pace of the player, Hedges or Dolan, to offer protection to the left back. Pickering at LB allows Beck to provide cover as he has both the pace and the understanding to help protect that left flank. Pickering is also good at playing slightly more central where his lack of pace is not exposed as much.

Oh, and who now appear to be travelling through a tempest to get there too...
