v Leeds Utd (a) - 1/1/2025

3 matches in 6 days, 2 against promotion contenders. Not going to end well is it?

Inadequacies of squad to be laid bare. Start well with a full squad and see momentum ebb away from Christmas onwards.

Little money, if any, to spend in January----how many times have we been through this?

No hope with useless Venkys.

To be fair, I remember going through similar experiences in the 60s, 70s and 80s.  Top or thereabouts at Christmas and then fall away immediately after for a variety of reasons including a lack of funds.

I would argue that in the 80s, (in the better seasons), it was more a case of coming up just short, rather than the kind of dramatic collapses we have witnessed in recent years.

Yeah, because it happened forty to fifty years ago doesn't excuse it right now though Parson.

Back then we genuinely didn't have the proverbial pot to **** in.

These days we have incredibly rich owners, who, latterly at least, won't spend any money despite flogging off nearly all the family silver.

Happy New Year to you and all the best.

EVERYTHING about the next two games says we’ll lose. Wouldn’t surprise me one bit if this manager and team pull something miraculous out of the hat and win both. I genuinely think we’re most dangerous in these moments

Let’s see.

I actually agree that is when we are at our most dangerous. When there is an expectation to win, (vs Hull at home for example) it feels like it goes wrong more often than not.

I would also be happy with 3 points from the two tough fixtures but only if the win comes on January 4th.

Given a choice I'd obviously prefer beating the Dingles but I'm not that bothered. You don't get 6 points for beating them, just the same 3 you would for beating Leeds.

(It's a hypothetical scenario where you're guaranteed three points only from one of the two games before Upside Down spontaneously combusts)

Yeah..this was where I came in...Christmas 1969 the death spiral of all death spirals, following the departure of Keith Newton.

Re not backing the manager etc, I clearly remember the fans chanting "Spend some money of f**** off!" at Bill Fox and co...

What money did the butchers, bakers and candlestick makers that owned Rovers in the 80s have to bankroll a team to promotion? They did the best they could to keep a competitive side at the top end of the second division.

Indeed we were often the best performing side in old Lancs/north west outside Liverpool, Everton and Man Utd. Where were the likes of Bolton, PNE, Dingles in contrast?
Some feat that, no comparison to those billionaires.

Yep.Rovers fans one and all,had the best interests of the Club at Heart. We were the only local Town Club to keep its Head above Water as the others sunk down the Leagues.

Upmost respect for those People.

That's true. We had gates of 3000 too didn't we? I felt happier supporting Rovers then than I do now.

There literally were no funds then. Now this lot dissembled a Premier League team, filled it with rubbish and sank it.

Never explained, never apologised, never learned anything.

I’m not sure that we ever got anywhere near that low in respect of league matches, now if you were talking about that lot down the road………….

Where is Mercer ? Not seen him post for a while to predict a 5 0 Rovers win, claim his winnings and celebrate with a fine red wine / champagne. Hope you ok, fella ?

Haven't seen Sparks for a bit either 🤔

We had poor gates in the mid 80s… as did the whole Football League, the game was at its lowest ebb re status and attendances.

We averaged around 9/10,000 for the 1980’s period. I am pretty sure during that period, that lot had some seasons with 3,000 on.

In the early to late seventies a five figure gate was generally as common as a (big) win on the pools.

A 10,000 gate or higher probably had the champagne corks popping in the Boardroom.
