I remember an early 1980s (I think it was), end of season game against Chelsea, crowd less than 5,000 IIRC, awful game, the Chelsea hooligans stormed the Blackburn End, the club and football itself felt like it was dying.

I earned my spurs in the 80’s, yes the crowds were smaller, across all clubs, but it all felt a lot more passionate. I can remember going up to the Toon to watch Rovers, in front of a crowd of about 11/12,000 either though they will swear blind they have always had 10,000 locked out every game !

Back then we genuinely didn't have the proverbial pot to **** in.

All the best to you Rev for the New Year.  My point was that having followed Rovers for 60 odd years, post Christmas collapses are nothing new.  I think this January the owners have to back the manager or the consequences will be felt when trying to flog season tickets in the summer.  New signings won't guarantee us a top six spot but it will give us a fighting chance.  This is arguably the best manager we have had since we came out of the Premier League.  If we don't back him then I'm sure it won't be long before more ambitious clubs come along and take him from us.  We have seen it all too often before.

Do they not have to at least prove they have the wherewithal to fund the Club for the next 12 months on an annual basis or am I imagining that?

As long as a potential owner has the funds and has no previous Criminal record it's a bit of a dangerous thing having the Footballing Authorities having too much of a say as to whether an owner is "fit and proper".

If they get the power to veto an owner because they think said owner might run the Club badly they might equally decide to veto an owner because they didn't want them doing too well.

I don’t think so (not as part of the ownership test anyway)

There are requirements under FFP regarding future years but these are (I believe) a completely separate  thing.

Just checked this one and crowd was bigger than I recalled, albeit there was a good Rovers contingent amongst the 20,000 crowd.

Im sure Rovers played that season at St James with Newcastle managed by Ardiles mid week and the gate was 8,500 although it could have been the season before

Staying in this league is their idea of “ achievement “. Promotion ? Why ? Whatever for ? So the full glare of publicity can be shone on them and their dodgy dealings ? I don’t think so.

In the 2022 to 2023 season we lost 17.8 million and had a wage to turnover ratio of 123%. 

Sales from Wharton and Sammie will negate similar losses for 23 / 24 and 24 / 25.

I can only presume they are hoping and praying we somehow magically scrape into the PL so they can try and sell and get some money back.

They would struggle to give the club away with such dire income and huge losses.

We didn't really seem an ambitious club when the likes of Pickering, England, Newton, Fergie, Hole, Knighton were all sold without adequate replacements coming in.  Fortunately, we appointed astute managers, like the present one, who could make do and mend.  But in the end Furphy, Lee, Smith and Kendall all left to join more ambitious clubs.  My fear is that Eustace will become another manager we lose if we don't support him.

As for the game tomorrow, I'll be going hoping for the best but fearing the worst.  I'd happily settle for a boring 0-0.

I don't think anyone has any rose-tinted spectacular views on our prospects for tomorrow's game, especially as we've stuttered somewhat since losing the steadying influence of our Captain shithouse who, despite being tarred by some with the harsh brush of anonymity, has quietly provided much needed backbone and steel upon which the team has flourished this season.

This is one game where we definitely need Mr Todd Cantwell to show some of his better qualities and to lead by example. We know that we will concede chances, and that we are vulnerable down the right flank, but we can also create chances too. On the day it will be a question of holding our nerve, riding our luck and shouting on the brave Blue and White army to deliver their best for the massed ranks of fans who have made the short ish journey.

Would like to think we can pull a rabbit from the hat, but am more inclined it will just be a dog eared sock puppet, stained with Christmas drink..Based on the second half performances against the Mackems and Humberside's finest it seems unlikely that we will suddenly click in front of goal, and therefore we will need a stellar show from our rearguard.

Last seasons game at Elland Rd for me would mark the turning point for Aynsley Pears, he was outstanding on the day and has gone on to prove everyone wrong.

I think he’s going to be busy again tomorrow.
