His turning point was the game before he kicked one into his own net?

His turning point was when we got the defence sorted out. It’s not often he has to deal with shots from outside the box these days.

This rain is relentless hope the game isn't called off?

Could be a different weather story in Leeds though

To be fair the forecast in Leeds is for dry conditions around match time and a moderate breeze, so I guess it should be on.

I’m not sure that we ever got anywhere near that low in respect of league matches, now if you were talking about that lot down the road………….

1982-4---------2 seasons where we had attendances in the 3000's. Average attendance for both seasons was in the 7000's.

There was a lowest attendance of 3587 in 1985-6 but average attendance was 5826! That was the nadir.

Not till 1991-2 did our average attendance get into double figures--13288.

From 1970-1991 we had only 6 seasons with average attendances over 10000.

Stats curtesy of Parsons!!

I guess-to really understand it-you have to compare this to the ebb and flow of attendance nationally...

Well that's true but in that period I wrote about we really were in the doldrums and I did wonder at the time what the point was and whether we would survive.

Not till Jack came along did things change----bigly! and we all know how many Jack Walkers there are.

For context, same season Burnley averaged 3,204 and ‘big’ clubs like Leeds 13,000, Derby, 12,000, Leicester 11,000 and Sheffield United 10,000, Palace and Boro, 6,000.

In context, Burnley were in Div 4 and only avoided the drop out of the Football League on the last day of the season.

But, yes, this was a bad time for English football----violence, crumbling stadiums etc.

But simply, I was just confirming that we did indeed have attendances as low as the 3 thousands.

Actually, the season Burnley avoided the drop was 86/87 and they again averaged just over 3,000 for the season, including the bumper last day crowd against Leyton Orient. Rovers average was nearly 7,000 that season and I remember travelling back from our last match of the season at Boundary Park, Oldham and seeing Dingles everywhere. Your right though, it was a tough time for football, especially northern mill town clubs but it was a time that I really enjoyed following Rovers.

Newcastle had gates of under 20,000 in the 80’s yet everyone assumes, they always had incredible support. Chelsea were very similar too.

Come On Your Blues

Eustace's Blue and White Army 🔵

I stick with us winning today, Eustace can set us up perfectly against teams like this before, played Leeds twice, won twice, lets make it 3 now

Going to be a tough game, be happy to park the bus and take a point today with a slim chance of a breakaway goal like last year.

Definitely our best chance of getting anything but I fear that today we will be well beaten, probably 3 0. I hope and pray that I am wrong.

Cricket score, miserly bore-fest, rub of the green, avalanche of goals, nicking one in the last minute, heroic last stand...NONE of it really matters! What actually matters is that we can go to Yarkshire with our heads held high and everything to play for - for a change!

A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!

I hope we have corrected some of the defensive mistakes from the last couple of games. We have been so solid, so to be carved open so easily twice by Sunderland and then for Hull to have so much space for their goal is worrying me, especially against a strong Leeds side. Hopefully we can keep it tight and be hard to beat. Team selection needs to be spot on.

A battling draw would see us going into the next game with some confidence.

Big Mak was by all accounts poor last game out and I think he’s more useful coming on in the last 30 so I’d be tempted to go with Dolan, Ohashi and Weimann in this one with Cantwell dropping out as well. Dolan and Ohashi for their energy and Weimann for nouse in sniffing out a chance.

               Pears

Brittain Hyam Batth Beck

       Baker Tronstad

ACD    Cantwell   Hedges

           Ohashi

My guess at the team he’ll play. He has limited options with Travis and Pickering being out.
