We had a prolonged dry spell in the 60's to 80's but doesn't change the fact that we've spent more seasons in the top division than any other division, across our history. We're literally the only team in English football to have won a major trophy in the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. And, despite being out of the top flight for some time now, we're still somewhere around the 12th most successful clubs in English football history. I think some people forget exactly who we are sometimes, current owners and custodians very much included.

Commondore
Is it Buckley or JRC that releases Beck down the left hand side before the goal? Either way it’s a good example of what they offer in central midfield that Tronstad and Travis don’t.
RoverDom
Wolves at home. A winnable Premier league tie. Hopefully they'll have one eye on staying in the Premier league.

roversfan99
One thing I did notice yesterday. You saw how weak our bench was but no Garrett or O'Riordan so they must be getting sent back out on loan.

But a dingle friend said that's only because you won Premiership in 1995. Yeap, I said Champions of England in my lifetime, you'll never ever see that! Sorry - still on the boro thread. Couldn't have put it any better, especially the bit in bold. 15 years of Venky abuse has led to many in our fanbase forgetting who they support. Phrases like "I'm a realist" and "this is our natural level" are nothing but coping mechanisms. We will be back as a club once all the poison has been flushed out.

Yeap, I said Champions of England in my lifetime, you'll never ever see that! They're such a weird lot. Did they really think that 'yeh you've only got so many trophies because of this one great trophy you won' was any kind of successful criticism? I mean, obviously it's a great achievement not something we won with a scratchcard, and the whole point of a trophy list is including the trophies you won, and even if you take it away we still have 9 major trophies, which would put us joint 10th instead of just outright 10th.

I hadn't noticed that when I pored over the bench - what occurred to me was that the bench had 3 CBs for some reason (McFadz, Litherland and Pratt), which seemed excessive. Which makes Garrett and especially O'Riordan's absences even more conspicuous.

The same goes for the all time Premiership table, where we sit 12th. Above us are, in order, Manure, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs, City, Everton, Newcastle, Villa, West Ham, Southampton. Leicester below us in 13th are also in the Prem. Leeds, 14th, likely to go back up, Fulham (15) and Palace (16) already there. So of the top 16 on that list, only us and Leeds aren't in it right now. It's not entirely dissimilar on the above list either, we're the only one of the top 12 not currently in the Prem, although after that the picture does change, with the next 5 all in the Championship. It does all go to show that, historically, we are punching below our weight for quite some time now, to have been in this league for so long and never even reached the playoffs.

I've seen both Preston and Burnley fans saying most of our major trophies don't count because they were earned when football was a lower standard and was generally crap. Without realising that using that argument pretty much wipes out their entire trophy cabinets. Last time they won anything was Preston 1938, Burnley 1960 (and prior to that it was 1921) 🤷♂️

A few years back, a Burnley supporting friend of mine had a dig by asking if we were still full time. My response was, no we’re all part time now with the exception of one employee who is still full time. He’s the guy who cleans the trophy cabinet. It’s a big one, you see.
