Crimpshrine
Brilliant ad. Venky's are a laughing stock. Hopefully someone shows it to the Raos and they realise that their reputation is in tatters.

bluebruce
Question - if this was exactly what had happened, ie our time with Venkys was the price for that glorious 94/95 season and triumph - was it worth it? So if you could make it so Venkys never took us over, but also we only finished 2nd or 3rd in 1995 (and every subsequent season before Venkys still turned out exactly the same as it did in reality), would you prefer that, or leave things how they were? Leave things how they were 100%. The Walkers didn't want us and you can't second guess how alternative owners would have done.

I'd put everything I have on other owners not deliberately relegating the club from the Premier League and never making one single attempt at getting back there. They might have been well intentioned but done even worse. Lot of big Clubs in League 1. I can't believe anyone would put the title win behind what happened subsequently. That's something we have over 85 other Clubs currently and that probably won't have changed much by the time we go to our graves.

I'd change. Walker's biggest mistake was resting on his laurels after we won the title. If we had finished 2nd in 95 walker probably would have kept investing, kept Dalglish and maybe pushed further for the Premier League. Then maybe we would have signed Zidane that summer, that could have taken us onto a decade of success. Yet he appointed Harford and only signed matty Holmes. Maybe Shearer would have been more inclined to stay because he would have seen the ambition

Mattyblue
Yep, the decline of the club (of course it was relative decline pre this shower turning up) began as soon as it was decided in the summer of ‘95 to ‘stay loyal’ to a team (and Ray) that had run out of steam instead of having that ruthless drive to get even better. Too nice, too much of a ‘family club’. The rest, as they say…

I said everything else being the same until Venkys arriving.
