I would like to include some perspectives from your fans so if anybody would like to share info please do, anything would be appreciated, fans thoughts about the game, players who have represented both clubs, tales from when we’ve met previously, a fans view on your season, etc. Look forward to receiving info and to a great game. 1 Quote

I’ve just been and got my old boots down from the loft. I’ll be having my phone close to hand In case I get the call when we’re down to the last men standing. 8 Quote
bluebruce Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Players that have repped both clubs...you probably knew these already, but Kasey Palmer, Derrick Williams, Andreas Weimann. They're the only ones that occur to me. Quote

47er Posted January 20 Posted January 20 We were looking forward to this run of "easier" games weren't we? It never works out that way. Quote

We're decimated by injuries. I've put decimated in italics since most squads would be able to cope with the absences we've got, but with £40m sales and close to zero reinvestment over the last 2 years, our Venky overlords created a streamline (wafer thin, inadequate) squad. Bristol should be confident. We've got this far through organisation and graft. Eustice has performed miracles. Now we're in a position whereby the players who aren't injured look utterly knackered after being flogged death. Get a goal and you'll win. We're still hard to break down. Would snap your hand off for a 0-0 draw right now. 4 Quote
Hasta Posted January 20 Posted January 20 (edited) We've lacked firepower and attacking threat all season but a solid defence and central midfield have been the foundation to our success so far. We shot up the league courtesy of 6 wins on the bounce, with 4 of them being 1-0 where we proved difficult to break down and then pinched a goal. The problem being we now have both central midfielders out injured and our third choice has been recalled by Stoke, meaning we are relying on players who have always been deemed not good enough, or Adam Forshaw who has arrived on a free transfer after failing to get in Plymouth's team ! Our problems up front are made worse by the loss of Ohashi, who may just be industrious yet limited, but was our top scorer when he got injured and the best option we had. Throw in another key injury in Harry Pickering, and then notice we are playing our 34 year old free transfer Danny Batth 90 minutes of every game since October, and you are getting the picture. We've still been good enough recently to be competitive, but losing Tronstadt on Saturday means we are crying out for re-inforcements which will not arrive till the very end of the transfer window (if we can find the send button). However, as @ben_the_beast says above, the defence is still difficult to break down so there's always the chance of us nicking something. There's a slight chance Lewis Travis may be back which would be a big help. Edited January 20 by Hasta 3 Quote

simongarnerisgod Posted January 21 Posted January 21 i suggest we do a middlesborough on saturday and don`t turn up,citing we can`t field a team, chances are we going to lose anyway ,so save some legs, just take the 3 point deduction and play the game later in the season when it won`t matter because we`ll have nothing to play for☺️ 1 Quote
roversfan99 Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Dread to think what the team will be. Bristol City will be expecting their easiest 3 points of the season. Our attack has failed to score in 5 of the last 8 games and our defence is ridden with injuries and has gone from being incredibly well protected to likely the flimsiest midfield pairing in the league Quote
philipl Posted January 22 Posted January 22 There were three walking wounded last night at the end in addition to the two who had already been replaced because of injury and the 8 unavailable to start. Did anyone say we aren't counting Gilsenan or the other 5 who normally would be of an age to be challenging for first team places but who have missed complete seasons and more and so not progressed from the youth ranks? Enough feeling sorry for ourselves. We should save that for after another 5-0 drubbing.. Quote
Ossydave Posted January 22 Posted January 22 May as well just credit them 3 points now and give our few fit players a rest 1 Quote
G Somerset Rover Posted January 22 Posted January 22 I don’t think I’ve ever been as sure of the result as I am for this weekend. Last years performance still makes me feel sick to my stomach too. Unfortunately I’m expecting more of the same. Can see this being 3 or 4. 1 Quote
sharpysharps86 Posted January 22 Posted January 22 This will be Rovers heaviest defeat of the season (so far). Bristol are pretty strong at home and we have a threadbare squad, if Pears, Brittain and Batth are all out for this one then that's at least 8 pretty much guaranteed starters out and we're essentially fielding a starting 11 that reeks of League Cup first round against a League Two side material. Bristol City 4 - 1 Rovers. Nakhi Wells will score at least one of theirs. Gueye with a consolation for Rovers. We'll get massively overrun in midfield with Forshaw and Buckley likely to be the pairing. I'd stick Hedges at right back if Brittain cant play, I know he's done LWB a few times. Doesn't really matter ultimately though, because this will be awful. 2 Quote
OnionBalaji Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Toth sanderson hyam beck Hedges Cantwell Weiman ACD Dolan Gueye Leonard 3 at the back - not many options at all and such a weak bench. Would give one of the U21s a game at 60 mins in midfield and try Igor if fit for 20 mins for Leonard. Much rather see a young player try prove themselves who wants it and is hungry, as unlikely to bring any points back with us. Do not want to see Buckley start, let alone wear the captains armband again - no fire in him. Quote
roversfan99 Posted January 23 Posted January 23 What a frightening team. Cantwell and Weimann as central midfielders. Hedges and ACD as wing back and Beck at centre back. And no goal threat despite essentially having 7 "attacking" players. Quote
