Some folk on here may have given Gueye ‘stick’… I.e. ‘I don’t think he’s very good’.

I imagine between the Dingle sending off and Christmas many at games thought the same, but you’d never know as they got right behind him - just like they did with Ben Brereton (for years).

Proper supporters here and don’t let anyone tell you different.

He will have to control what he does with his arms and his elbows though. I'm all for physicality but he'll get known for it and we'll suffer. Got away with it this time.

Cut that out and learn to shoot and he's a bargain.

I thought Hedges going off was more of a turning point, but I haven't watched it back. Their threat down their right increased after he went off.

Agree---Hedges I'm no fan of but he played well last night.

Buckley had a good game next to Travis last night. Maybe what Buckley actually needed was a run of games and get used to playing again

Agree. This is what all those players that haven’t been playing as regularly this season needs. No one can do anything in 10 minutes here and there coming off the bench. For players to perform they need a run of games. A 10 minute appearance that JE likes to make towards the end of a game doesn’t allow a player to even settle into a game never mind change it

Whilst I agree Buckley has looked better the last few, he needs to stop getting the ridiculous schoolboy bookings. He's so petulant and childish at times. That little trip last night completely unnecessary when their man was going straight into Travis' challenge anyway.

He's now on 4 bookings which is the same as Tronstad has had all season, given the minutes played it says a lot.

Don't get me wrong I want my players to get stuck in, but they're always stupid fouls that mean you need to be careful for the rest of the game, it's just immature.

Expand

Baby steps mate. Buckley has been shite for years in spite of his obvious talent. So personally I’m prepared to swallow those petulant fouls for performances like that.

Yesterday, the axis between him and Trav was very good and when on form, he has a range of passing that neither Trav or Sonny have.

In the last 2 victories, we had been very fortunate with refereeing decisions in our favour.

Ill take it any day, but Preston can feel aggrieved.

To be fair he did against Luton.

Dolan might have had "intensity" but it was a typical performance from him. He did put in one good cross which led to a goal to be fair but otherwise he halted a number of attacks either through a lack of end product, a poor decision made or by over elaborating.

Expand

It was a "typical" Dolan performance, he had a good game overall, and the cross was better than good.

I’ve given Gueye some stick as well. My view was that he was totally useless. I’ll row back on that a bit after last night. He did things I didn’t think he could do. Some of his hold up play was really good. Can he do this every week? I’m not so sure yet. Is he a natural centre forward? No. Does he have the sharp thinking and finishing skills in and around the box? No, not for me.

every credit though, he did well last night for an hour. His fitness needs working on. Top strikers aren’t out on their feet after an hour.

He works really hard, but his end product is inconsistent. Interestingly when him and Hedges departed last night we fell apart.

I think towards the end we tired with our squad running on empty, and both Travis going off and the change to a back 5 hindered us much more than those 2 going off. Their subs also made a difference.

Nope, we lost control of the wide areas when our wingers went off. We couldn’t prevent the crosses coming in.

Maybe but they had 3 clear cut chances and could have had a pen. Don’t get me wrong we deserved it overall but those last 15 minutes were agonising to watch and we might easily have lost

Anyway on to the next game and QPR away. Our group is going and we haven’t seen a win this season yet

Expand

Last 15, I agree nobbers on top but you started out with them on top the whole half.  Good win.  Been recent times we'd have lost that.

Oh and stay home for QPR please Jim.

Like Dolan on the other side he works his socks of defensively so very, very rarely leaves you short heading towards your own goal, but offers basically nothing in attack.

I think that's the second time recently that Dolan has employed the old Beckham / Bentley trick - something slow wingers had to do back in the day; drop your shoulder, shift the ball so you gain half a yard of space and whip it around the defender into the box.

Gueye hit the post with it against Bristol City (which Weimann then converted) and obviously scored last night.

Why the hell doesn't he do that more rather than trying his silly pirouettes and stepovers against defenders that are so much faster than him that even if he wrong foots then he can never get the ball round them.

Baffling player, he's learned basically nothing in 4 years of professional football.

Also pleasant reading on nobbers message board about Gueye:

"People bang on about some targetmen not having great scoring rates, but what a difference someone like Gueye would make to our team. He was class. Wins everything aerially, good touch, can't take the ball off him, drops deep to search for the ball, and even has decent feet.
Only 3 goals but 6 assists, and obviously brings more indirectly.
Someone like him should be top of our summer shopping list."

Expand

He's been the best striker on the pitch recently and arguably the best player on the pitch against Coventry and Preston.

I'm delighted he's finally finding his feet and the goals are coming - it was clear from day 1 that he had an awful lot about him and Championship CBs would hate playing against him.

fortunate yesterday with Ref's decisions? 😂

I watched the Gueye's incident and I think its still 50/50.

Hyam was unppercut their defender.

If I was Preston boss, my focus would be why they didn't turn up

Yes, fortunate. I think we got away with one at the end.

The thing is, our player could 2 foot an opposition player in the box and youd be insistent that it wasnt a penalty.

Its luck we will take but we got fortunate with poor refereeing decisions last night.

Id rather have a new winger than either Dolan or ACD to be honest. Its a position we could do with another option to give us some added pace and quality. Got lots of plodders.

Of course we got lucky with the ref, I’m as blue tinted glasses as they come, but I know I’d be fuming if the roles were reserved - you definitely would, Chadster.

But that’s football, we’ve been on the receiving end of some stinkers too, so hey ho Nobbers.

Last night's gate was 447 more than the gate at Deepdale. They had about 1,300 more than we did there, so the gap in home fans was maybe 850. Given the negativity around Ewood (look at comments earlier in this thread about people not bothering) and how they were in a run of form and looking forward to a win, I'd say about the same crowds.

They are selling more STs than they’ve sold in decades and their gates are still pretty much around ours

our penalty was nailed on,preston defender lost the flight of the ball and did`nt know where he was,he clearly fouled hyam and nearly took his own player out as well

on their shout, gueye got lucky, though he did head the ball first,im`e never keen on strikers defending in our own box, thats why they are paid to play at the other end,the ref did`nt have a good game tbh,i thought he did a lot of guessing on the niggly fouls
