Pretty sure in its basic form  the rule is if you 'jump into a player' its a foul. He did that - and was late.  Clear pen.

It is a penalty in law. It was very similar to the one Brighton got against Arsenal recently which was a careless challenge too. Anywhere else in the pitch it's a free kick and to give the referee some credit it's a good spot.

Delighted to finally win again against a local rival, (the biannual "I don't give a sh*t about them" routine is tedious).

We deserved the win, but in my opinion we got very lucky in the latter phase of the game.

We've had enough bad luck, so we'll take it.

When it goes against us, I always say "it's a result on a piece of paper", so the same applies here.

Now for a few days of transfer fiascos.

Both were clear pens for me. How he didn't give the one against us baffles (and delights me).

Overall a decent 80 mins and a shoddy 10, highlighting the dearth in midfield backup. The quicker Tronstad is back the better, on recent evidence I'd be happy with Bucko being a backup but Forshaw and JRC (what's happened to him?) aren't up to it.

Much needed win. Over to the directors box now. Everyone knows what's needed

It's incredibly hard to be patient in this sport...Szmodics, Brereton, Gueye etc, all showing why, it does take time.

It will be the same for Kargbo and others who come in. Scouts will of been impressed by Gueyes performance last night...It was a, almost, perfect number 9 display.

Absolutely. Even Tronstad had a slow start and I'm not sure Brittain had really impressed anyone in his first season. Further back - MGP got taken out of the first team squad for half a season before becoming a cult hero. Of course everyone would love signings to hit the ground running but surely it does nobody any good to dismiss them so quickly.

I couldn't post on here last night, site was playing up.

However, pleased to get the 3 points as the priority, as always.
Gueye is looking better with each passing week, thought he was very good last night.

Defence looks as good as any in this division and Travis made all of the difference, as we thought he would.

On the negative side, I thought Pears continued to look dodgy - the goal in particular was very soft and he was again beaten at his near post by a shot you'd expect any Championship GK to make.

And we dropped deep the moment that Preston started going route one, instead of continuing to play our game.
Against a side better than Preston, that could easily have cost us.

Defiitely deserved the win over the full 90.

I think with there penalty appeal the ref cant see it at the point of the challenge Buckley runs accross his line of view so the ref cant give it not sure why the assistant ref didnt see it.

Had our fair share of harsh decisions so f**k it and move on

Beck should have scored, agreed, but some fans are in denial about how lucky we were not to lose that match in the last 15 minutes.

Overall though we shaded it and the players deserved it too for the massive shift they put in over 90 minutes and the bad luck we’ve also suffered in some recent games

Inthink you are being harsh on us and nice to them.  PNE only came alive after the penalty and Trav leaving boosted them.

The calls for Cozier-Duberry to start have all but disappeared. He just isn't capable of delivering a performance with the intensity Dolan gave last night.

It's no wonder clubs send their young players away to "grow up". He's looked a bit lost of late, hopefully the first half of the season stands him in good stead and he can help the team during the run in.

Yeah. I was a centre half when I played all those years ago - and if I’d have done what the North Ender did I would have been expecting the ref to be awarding a pen. There’s no way you can argue that it wasn’t a foul. It was a foul. You just can’t do that anywhere on the pitch.

I thought Hedges going off was more of a turning point, but I haven't watched it back. Their threat down their right increased after he went off.

My opinion in the penalties is for once the Ref got it spot on.  Theirs was way way late and to me he intended to to hurt Hyam was it?  BigMacs? he was using arms for leverage is all and clattered their lad a bit.  Nothing sinister or malicious just 2 big boys playin man's footy.  Good calls for once.

No. The Law (12, Fouls and Misconduct) would only apply if the player had been judged by the referee to have deliberately endangered the safety of another player. In this case, their player (Watmough) did endanger Hyam, but he had his back tto him when he jumped, and also jumped into his own player first. It was dangerous play, but IMO not deliberate - most referees would not have the cojones to give an indirect free kick inside the penalty area.

At the other end, I agree we were somewhat fortunate not to be penalised for Gueye's challenge for the ball with Potts (or whoever) and the suspicion of handball - but again the mitigating factor was that Potts (or whoever) was behind him and to me appeared to shove Gueye too, so a 50-50 ball.  In some games the ref might have taken a different view, but I personally think he called that one right.

So for me, the Nobbers might feel let down by the ref for our penalty, but they had no claim of their own. And in any case, what an injustice that would have been after having brought so little to the game and deserving nothing. Besides, I completely despise their skank manager, who is more weasly than Ron, and more rattty than Roland - a despicable charactter whose sides play sunday league football at best.

We won. They lost. Let's move on.

He gets a rough ride by some.  but he has his uses, and is valuable in Eustace's system

In an ideal world, Hedges would be someone to bring on for the last 20 mins to help our full back double up on a tricky wide player  to see out games rather than being our fist choice, but we like in Venkys world, which is far from ideal

Whilst I agree Buckley has looked better the last few, he needs to stop getting the ridiculous schoolboy bookings. He's so petulant and childish at times. That little trip last night completely unnecessary when their man was going straight into Travis' challenge anyway.

He's now on 4 bookings which is the same as Tronstad has had all season, given the minutes played it says a lot.

Don't get me wrong I want my players to get stuck in, but they're always stupid fouls that mean you need to be careful for the rest of the game, it's just immature.

He’s always had that in his game. Remember him bouncing the ball on that opponents head  ? WTF is that all about ? Keep your bookings for when they are needed. The comparison with Tronstad is revealing.

There was absolutely zero intent from Mak it just summed up his gangly, sometimes clumsy way of playing, but some refs would definitely have given a penalty.

Had we not been given a penalty I don't think it would have been so much of a talking point though.

Good win, really high effort performance from the whole starting eleven.

Do other clubs do this thing where they switch to a deep 5-4-1 whenever they are leading in the latter stages? It rarely seems to work for us and the substitutions last night very nearly cost us a well deserved win. That's on the lack of investment in the squad, of course, and Forshaw in particular should be nowhere near a championship level football pitch.

Zero intent and clumsy could also be described of the PNE defender for ours. I feel they were either both penalties or both weren't. In my opinion both were and both would have been given as fouls elsewhere on the pitch.

But who cares?!

Maybe but they had 3 clear cut chances and could have had a pen. Don’t get me wrong we deserved it overall but those last 15 minutes were agonising to watch and we might easily have lost

Anyway on to the next game and QPR away. Our group is going and we haven’t seen a win this season yet

Dangerous play is when you lift your foot or something similar but don't necessarily make contact. Blood was pouring from Hyams cheek afterwards so it was definitely a penalty. Do you think if a goalkeeper comes out for the ball and boxes someone in the head and misses the ball completely, that it's not a pen?
