Eustace…GONE

Time for Rovers owners, Waggott and Suhail to give Eustace the assurances he wants and the backing he wants. He has taken us from the relegation candidates to playoff contenders.

He knows they can’t. He’s just doing what JDT did and shining a light for us.

”Can you renew the contracts of certain players and guarantee a healthy budget”

”err, court case. matched bonds.”

”See ya”

Jumping ship with 15 games to go while you're in the playoffs after months of talk about togetherness, to a team fighting relegation is a poor move by Eustace. You stay till the end of the season and then look to move on.

I fully understand his frustration with the owners and those running the club and they are ultimately responsible but this could backfire on Eustace. You go down with Derby to league one and your success at Rovers is soon forgotten.

Same feelings from me on this.

The owners, the clubs hierarchy are terrible and they've let him down BUT the knock on effect is, him walking now when we are 6th and have injured players coming back, plus new ones getting up to speed, let's the fans down massively.

If he goes, I get it but it will be a thank you for saving us from relegation but also, fuck you as well, to be perfectly honest.

Fair enough... I'm just saying, there are many, who have left work having been in tough situation, that just could no longer afford to continue in that situation. If JE felt that he was betrayed, he could have just said enough is enough. Considering he was unemployed when we brought him in, im sure another club end of season would have easily snapped him up

If the issue is that he hasn’t literally fallen on his sword, we should bear in mind the rumours that started this thread - he apparently offered to resign at the beginning of the season. The Club apparently refused and said he’d have to pay out his contract. Worth bearing in mind the nature of football contracts where compensation is the norm, due to the inherently competitive nature of the industry. I think we can both agree that buying out your own contract to not work, with no future guarantee of work isn’t something that makes sense (and especially at or around the quoted “£500k-750k” buyout clause.

Neither Derby nor Eustace would do that. There's just too many variables to consider.

I'm pretty sure, that even if he didn't go to Derby, there will be at least a league 1 club looking to sign him up. The issue isn't about him leaving, the issue here is, that with 15 games to go, see it through.

C'mon Jim, do you honestly think that no other club would come in end of the season for JE, if he stayed and got us into the playoffs? What he has done this season, has been nothing short of phenomenal.

Other jobs will come up obviously but he fancies Derby for a number of reasons and the offer is on the table now - not the end of the season

I agree, buying out your contract is never going to happen. However, we are so far into the season, a chance at the playoffs, that you would think that JE would at least try and see where it ends. All the positive interviews from JE, I don't know if I should take it as lies or that he was genuinely positive

As ever with us, all roads lead back to Pune. If they weren’t such shitheads, Eustace would have told a team in 22nd place to clear off.
Let’s please not change the narrative and try and blame our manager. The real enemies are in India, not Lancashire.

Exactly, and if Derby are offering more solid foundations, they have the potential to be serious contenders for promotion in a year or two.

Certainly not the Mickey Mouse club that some are making out.

Any which way it’s clearly a very decisive 24/48 hours which will paint unequivocally the ambition or lack thereof of the board and owners. If he goes, there is no way that they can be allowed by the fans to remain.

I don't think there is any doubt about the lack of ambition. Waggot will be rubbing his hands at the prospect of an unexpected compensation windfall boosting the income figures.

Like I said, if he doesn't see it through then it's worse at Rovers than we could have imagined.

He would have had to buy out his own contract to leave, like Tomasson was expected to which delayed his departure.

Not often a manager gets headhunted after a run of 8 points from 11 matched.

Has he been head hunted? It's fairly clear he's desperate to get out of the club.  Generously, youd say it's for someone more local to him.  Less generously, because we're a basket case

More garbage on a par with "happy to out of the cup"

You clearly don't understand how football works - there is no loyalty and any player or manager will move if a better opportunity presents itself.

Eustace is ambitious but in 12 months has clearly worked out the club is dysfunctional and lacking ambition

A better opportunity has come up. Why wouldn't he go?

I'll be sorry to see him go but it hasn't all been milk and honey with him. The team has been hard to watch this season and he's leaving us in freefall in the league

You're correct. I should have just assumed that he was an idiot from the get-go and realised that he was incapable of realising that the club was lacking in ambition and dysfunctional before he joined.

Not like there were obvious signs or anything...

If I were Eustace, I’d use this opportunity to take control.

1. Bumper new contract with release clause in summer with no compensation payable unless the following criteria are met.
2. New contracts for specified players secured by end of March.
3. Designated, and defined summer transfer budget of £X and increased wage structure.
4. Failure to adhere to any of the above and I walk now.

Now we may all expect Venkys/Swag to not deliver and likely not want to handover control but surely the potential albeit unlikely upside to staying with Rovers is greater than that with Derby for the next 6 months which is a role in itself that comes with risks.

Any which way it’s clearly a very decisive 24/48 hours which will paint unequivocally the ambition or lack thereof of the board and owners. If he goes, there is no way that they can be allowed by the fans to remain.

But we know those first 3 points will not happen under Venkys and the current situation with the court case. Do you really think Venkys give a shit about John Eustace enough to suddenly start committing money again long term. They’ll just bank the compo figure and move on.

He knows that as he will surely have been asking for contracts for players and quality signings since he arrived. Therefore he’s already arrived at point 4.

Listened to the sky sports video compared to BBC. The BBC sounds like he wanted out while the skysports one less so. To me he is looking for assurances and a new contract. Which either way he has deserved an extension for the work done. I would like to see that 40m used to renew contracts

Normally when Managers get poached, they go. There was none of this got to speak to the owners palarva when Souness, Hughes et al got offers. Or for that matter I cannot remember any managerial moves this season when a club moved for another club's Head Coach - it was done and dusted once they approach and offer were made.

I agree it is very likely Eustace is gone but there is an open door for Swag, Suhail, Venky's, the club cat.. if they want to walk through it to keep John Eustace.

Should we warn the next potential manager?

Hmm....

The issue is though, he's brought some self-respect and sense of identity back to the team, and somehow managed to knit together a disparate rag bag of players into a reasonably cohesive unit. Not many other managers we've endured recently have been anywhere near that, and most have had a much better deal in terms of money being spent.

If he does go, I think he will be a success wherever he goes, Derby or anyhwere else, as he clealry has the management and leadership skills and capabilties needed to make a real difference - and that will be really difficult to replace.

I think he's been pretty good this season, but nowhere near as incredible as most have claimed.

Last season I think he was pretty awful.

Overall I would give him a B. I don't think he's guaranteed success in the future.

We could do better. We won't. But we could.

Sure but consider the fact that - whatever happens this season (and we’re not going up, we’re very likely not making the playoffs): there are only 13 of our 25 registered first team players that are contracted beyond the end of the season. Then look at where we are in the table, then look at how much we’ve brought in in transfer fees, then look at how much we’ve spent since and - while considering where we are in the table - look really closely at who we brought in over January. Why would you risk having to manage 13 players, plus youth prospects and whoever you can get in on a free, especially when the club has no intention of renewing contracts? If the job isn’t there in the summer, what do you tell your family? “Sorry, I realise the effect this job is having on us, but sticking it out and turning down that job in February was the right thing to do for the fans”? Nah.
