Yeah we're shite away from home against rubbish promoted teams (don't think we've beaten one for 3 or 4 years away). But at home, against bottom of the league, who haven't won an away game all season and have conceeded 63 (!!!!) goals in 30 games, whose goal difference is 15 goals worse than the next team - if we're calling that 'tough' then we might as well give up.

Let's be honest, Pompey were robbed a bit by some pretty poor refereeing decisions - could have easily gone the other way. Get your overall ppint though.

Just read that after his permanent appointment at Bournemouth they went 8 games without a win and then just about stayed up - sh*te.

Edit - I think he was a bit unlucky at wolves, not financially backed, best players sold and some crap VAR decisions, but I am still highly unconvinced he knows anything about how to get a Championship club promoted. He was technically on the coaching staff when Bournemouth went up, but that was putting bibs and cones out, not managing.

I agree, I don't know how he has done anything to be highly tipped and regarding (again by the deluded) as you can see from the below stats but like you say, a Sky and TalkSport darling ... In comparison to JE's and Steve Cooper's.

I heard a strong rumour that they broke an explicit promise about the Maguire money in the summer and that he offered to resign then. Blimey, his links to the PNE job were in August!

I have also heard this, apparently promised to allocate JE 5 mill for his own signings which was there or there about what was being spent on McGuire.

Win % and Points per game stats shouldn't really be used for Gary O'Neil as all his managerial games have come in the Premier League.

Just as you should caveat Tony Mowbrays 61% win rate and 2.09 points per game numbers from the League One campaign.

Of the names muted, he (O'Neil) is the only one with any real top level credentials. He was mentioned in the Manager of the Year discussion in the Premier League as recently as last season. Then in the summer lost his best player, Pedro Neto, before a poor season with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Suppose he could be desperate to get back in the game though, and it's not often you get a job at this level at this stage of the season when your not battling to stay in the division.

I don't disagree with those comments to be fair Mike ... But yes, still underwhelming.

My point is, it isn't an appointment to be massively excited about; if he comes and does a good job then I will be ecstatic (for us as fans & the players, not the ownership!!), but let's hope that this doesn't dispel from the problems and they don't spin this off as a masterclass and the negativity gets forgotten about.

That being said, look at O'Neil's stats ... It is 100 games, 31 wins, 17 draws and 52 losses (I don't need to state the %'s it is of course obvious). Wolves aren't a bad side, I would say they are under performing, especially when they have players like Cunha yet they've been left in a relegation battle because of him... So if he couldn't do well with a relatively good side in the Prem among teams like Southampton, Ipswich, Leicester, Everton, Spurs (lol) and of course Man Utd (bigger lol) then what is he going to be able to do at Blackburn?

I find it a bit odd that there has been no official announcement by Derby yet about Eustace becoming their new manager. Sky said he was expected to be unveiled at Derby's match last night but as the evening wore on they said it wasn't going to happen then as there were some minor details to be sorted.

Hypothetically how strange would it be if the move didn't go through. Contractually I wonder how Eustace would stand with us as I guess technically he still works for us. Again hypothesising but I wonder if  Waggott et al fear that if they appoint another manager we might have to pay wages to him and Eustace. And they can kiss the £750k goodbye.

All talks of closeness to family etc should never be uttered at Blackburn Rovers. Robbie Savage saw to that in his transfer from Birmingham. Laughed my ass off at that one, but always thought I would be furious if I were a Brum-fan…..untill they became Big Club:-D

I wouldn't at all be surprised if Rovers are dragging this out just to cause as much disruption as possible to prevent any kind of challenge on promotion.

It really is bewildering what the end game is from our feckless owners. If they wanted to continue putting the bare minimum in, with maybe a chance they can even make a profit, then surely going up and having the Premier League tv income, increased advertising streams and ticket sales would be a no-brainer.

Unless they really want the club to wash its own face and use the trading model to sustain us, in which case staying in this division or dropping down makes more sense as you're able to blood our academy youngsters in a less high pressure environment before selling them on after they've gained valuable first team experience - probably interspersed with experienced heads on cheap short term loans and contracts to ensure you could field a viable first 11. The problem with that is we need a decent number of the youngsters to be of reasonable quality to be able to sell for decent money. That wasn't the plan clearly under Eustace who seemed reluctant to play some of our highly rated kids so might be part of the reason they refused him an improved contract.

Someone else has mentioned on here it's unlikely to be for tax reasons why they keep us because you can't off-set debt from India to the UK, I think I have that right. Maybe then it is out of spite and all goes back to that snowball, they want us all to suffer and realise how big and powerful they are.

The whole thing's just incredibly depressing and must be what purgatory is like. It's the glimmer of hope our good first half of the season brought which pains the most.
