That’s Damien Duff you’re describing…😉

And his career has been in a downward spiral ever since.

Till he took over last week at the very bottom club of all 4 leagues.

I said earlier in the thread - Big Sam, along with Warnock or Dyche would be the best case scenario for us.
Not sure Warnock fancies it anymore and Dyche would command wages we'd likely not pay.

So Big Sam would be my choice. Listen to the opinion of any player who's worked with him; they love him and would walk through fire for him.

Also massively underrated as a tactician, gets the best out of his players and has them playing as a team.

We won't be going anywhere near Allardyce or Warnock i don't think. Dyche would be commanding too much in wages and will likely be holding out for another Prem job (not that I think he'll get one)

The fall of Hughes is crazy really.
I almost have respect for him that he’s still up for it and took on Carlisle bottom of League 2. It’s certainly not for the money, must just be the love of the game.

He was manager of last years treble winners just 15 years ago - albeit with ‘fake’ wealth back then and not oil money

This made me chuckle other day:

It's probs been mentioned already but are we being kept down on purpose?

Is wagg@t conspiring with venkys to keep us down?

This obviously isn't a football venture we are following, it seems more a place where venkys can offshore their money and debt, maybe some kind of tax relief system where it pays to be in the red..

Of course, nobody knows for sure, we all have opinions on it but none of us have proof of anything.

can`t agree with that

we signed some cracking players, mccarthy, samba, savage, warnock, bentley, santa cruz, hughes got starstruck my man citys new found wealth under the crooked thai fellow,he was always going to go

They were bargains. When Savage broke his leg and the Board refuse Hughe's request to fund a replacement, that's when he gave up on Rovers.

I accept that the situation then was as different as could be from the situation now though, which is dire.

Hughes did alright at Stoke until the end, when it fell apart quite quickly. He came to Southampton in March 2018 and kept them up, but then they struggled and he was sacked with them in 18th just before the 2019 January transfer window. To be honest it doesn't seem like enough to make him unhirable for three seasons, let alone for him to have to drop to League Two. I can't remember if in the immediate aftermath he refused to drop below the PL for a job, or if something else was going on. Either way a very sharp fall from what had been a solid position.

Is Rob Edwards that good? Got Luton promoted against all the odds but he was sacked by Watford after just 11 games and had an absolute mare when Luton came back down.

Was his promotion just a Coyle-esq fluke?

I don't think you can judge anyone for getting sacked by Watford.

I spoke to a Derby fan today who was at Pride Park on Friday for an event and the word there was that Eustace was pretty much a done deal before weekend.

I also spoke to Damien Johnson today and asked him if he fancied the job. "Hmmmmm....let's just hope he stays" was his response.

Super Atko also said "there is definitely something going on in there now" after the game.

I get the impression they're making a desperate last ditch attempt to persuade him to stay.

Personally disappointed to see him go, but on the flip side our league form has been poor and there are plenty of decent names available at present. Every time a Championship job becomes available at present I've always been impressed with the names linked to it. I'd take any of Dyche, Edwards, Cooper, Duff and probably even Carsley. Whether any of them are mad enough to come here is a different question. I've seen £500k mentioned as the compensation figure for Eustace. I've seen a previous manager's contract and the compensation was set at 12 months salary - so presume Eustace is on circa £10k per week and that's the sort of budget we'd have for a new boss (and preferably an unattached one).

Interesting that Eustace has had the lowest win percentage of our managers in recent years (excluding Coyle). JDT's percentage is staggering considering how bad a run we were on towards the end of his reign.

When you factor in them being under investigation for financial crimes this looks a very likely reason.

No coincidence that the money stopped coming over once the investigation was underway. Whatever scam they've been running since the beginning has been rumbled.

There's always been something dodgy about their tenure.

The run of bad form under JDT only kicked in when there was a massive injury crisis and he was trying to engineer an exit to get the fuck away from this place.

This is also after he'd tried to resign and was prevented from doing so in the summer.

Keeping us in the Championship ≈ not too much attention on the club and its running, but enough that significant amounts of money are running through it?

I've heard many accounts of people thinking along these lines, would like to know where they get their information
