Yes, it was. I mentioned Karanka a few days ago as one who would be in the frame. Imagine my surprise (not) this morning seeing Nicko's list of candidates. My first thought was 'the outstanding candidate'.

Then I saw somebody else on here opine that it would be like an Owen Coyle appointment. Who recommended Coyle to Pasha, remains an unanswered question.

There is a pattern that has gone largely unnoticed by fans over the years. The pattern has shown itself relating to a number of rumoured transfer targets too over the past 14 years, which is why I posted similar in the transfer thread too.

Somebody like Carsley or O'Neil coming in would be something different, so let's see who they end up going for.

Leaving a team in the playoffs for a team in relegation battle in February just doesn’t happen. Can’t think of a manager that’s ever done that in any league ever. That is terrifying. How bad must things be behind the curtain for this to happen

It's not quite the same, but Derby's previous manager Paul Warne left Rotherham whilst they were in the Championship to join Derby and fight for promotion from League One. That's the closest thing I can think of, but he at least traded a relegation fight for a promotion push, just a division lower.

Sounds like the hold up is at Rovers end of things. Unsurprising. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if it still isn't resolved by the weekend!

I suspect Rovers are ensuring that whoever takes over here doesn't get this week to prepare the team thereby wasting tonight and a home game against the bottom club. 

The less games the new man gets the less likely it is we get near the top 6, which is something they are obviously keen to avoid.

It’s never happened in any league anywhere. Especially not this deep into a season, fair do’s if it’s September but not Feb. to leave a team in play offs for team in relegation tells me that behind the scenes the club must be awful.

I remember Paul Jewell left Bradford in the Premiership to join Sheffield Wednesday in the old first division. That ended terribly if I remember rightly.

Probably the same reason these owners are content to let the club rot for 10 years+ and do nothing to improve or change it.

I suspect the people making the day-to-day decisions down there are quite content as they are, collecting their wages as a middling Championship club going nowhere every year. PL football changes everything - pressure, media, scrutiny, and probably leads to the owners taking more interest and perhaps bringing outsiders into the equation.

Shadow and slippery have a nice little number going for themselves here and bosses who couldn't give two hoots either way.

Players know they'll be replaced.

Waggott and Caley have to cope with full stadiums etc.

Waggott/Pasha's positions would come under scrutiny if we performed poorly and got relegated again. In general would be well out of their comfort zones just chugging along in mid table in the Championship. Same applied to Mowbray when he was here.

I'm not sure 'Suhail' or Steve give a toss to be honest. They get their wages regardless and it seems to me get probably some sort of bonus or enhanced pay if they can cut costs every year. Relegation of course causes all sorts of issues because it means the owners have to find millions more and ticket/commercial income plummets which could disrupt their little arrangement.

I remain convinced that it was relegation to League One and the issues that created that led to Mowbray getting an audience in India and establishing influence over the bigwigs there. Ever since then 'Suhail' has done his utmost to stop that and ensure he is the only link to India.

If the Indians suddenly realised we were back in the PL, global profile, mega money, dozens of additional requirements in terms of facilities, management, far bigger crowds - they might even start to take a dollop of interest themselves and it's all just extra work and a headache that neither of these jokers want. They're both already well above their stations here and are lucky to be anywhere near running a Championship club, and they will know it.

I doubt that the owners are content. I think that they have simply run out of ideas and don't know what to do. They dont know jack shit about football. Think how many people they have trusted to do a good job. Think how badly they have been let down time and time again. Think how much money has been squandered. They have often recruited supposed genuine football folk qualified at this level, but still flirted with relegation and also been relegated. They've been totally rinsed including all the parachute payments. I imagine they are ill with it all, spunking money left, right and charlie.

Re the executives. Media income is up. Matchday income is up. Merchandise income is up. Advertising income is up. We are actually performing relatively well in these area. This is all indicative of an organisation trying hard behind the scenes. Day to day executives are often judged on these parameters. Success on the pitch facilitates further growth and bigger bonuses, so that doesn't make any sense.

Re the manager, coaches and players. I presume you do not include these in the plan to avoid promotion. As Rev suggests below.

No Rev it was a genuine question. I read constantly we dont want promotion and haven't a clue what the posters are going on about.

Players know they will be replaced? So you believe managers and players do not try and win, fearful of being replaced? Behave, that's complete hogwash.

Cope with full stadia? What are you going on about? Waggot isn't on the turnstiles Rev. He doesn't have to do anything.

Waggott under scrutiny if we performed badly? errr no. He would be lauded for turning a 20 million turnover business into a 130 million turnover business.

I worked in football for many years. We were all desperate for the team to do well. Phones ring off the hook when teams do well. It makes life so much easier for all.
