I get why Eustace left. He’s working for venkys. 
 

But Christ. He should have seen the season out, lie to me all you want I’m seeing the season out with my team and hitting them playoffs. Then I’m off. Can’t see him keeping this derby team up they are shite and he’d of sure of had offers next season no doubt about it.

At least he's at a club where the manager and admin will work together, not one where the  efforts of the players and coach are under-appreciated and sabotaged as a matter of routine.

I still feel like it might have been better to wait until the summer and take a look at the lay of the land then. Even if we finished in the top half that would be a great achievement with our budget, and you'd think there would be some interest there.

I wonder if losing out on the WBA, Coventry and Hull jobs spooked him into just taking whatever he could get at the first opportunity? It seems like he's wanted out since the summer - and who could blame him? - and seemingly the thought of another summer under Venky employment was too much for him. I don't really buy the family distance and the past history with Derby as legitimate reasons for leaving a club in the top six to join a relegation battle. Nor do I think Derby have the kind of cash to give him a major payrise - unless he was on absolute peanuts here, which is possible.

As you say, he must have absolutely hated it here to the point where he was so desperate that anything would do. Time will tell whether, in the end, it was the right call to jump ship ASAP rather than remain patient and wait for a potentially better opportunity.

All the teams around Derby have two games in hand. They are in serious trouble and will need an impressive upturn in form to survive. I’d expect Luton to improve and Plymouth are on the up (hopefully not tomorrow).

The commentators of other teams will rarely have seen our players live though. A lack of supposed bias will be massively outweighed by that.

I also watched with West Brom commentary and they started by talking about Dolan and Hedges out wide. They did that because Mowbray had mentioned them pre match.

That's exactly the point, they see the game as it is, largely without any pre conceived ideas.

They were complimentary of Dolan because he played well, no need for excuses.

That argument works both ways though. Id maintain that minus Szmodics and Travis it was and still is a pretty poor squad which highlights how well he did to still have us in contention by this stage.

Which is good for us going forward regardless of what you make of his decision to leave when he did.

Eustace kept us up and left us in 6th place this season.

He's taken one step back to (in his mind) take two steps forward there's no doubt about that.

The worry from our point of view is why he felt compelled to do that and whether we know how bad things REALLY are behind the scenes yet.

The way I see it is who wouldn't have done as Eustace did? We all, well most on here - outside of this forum the sun shines out of Venkys arse - complained about the lack of support in January, the lack of communication and zero planning for the future. Everyone thought he was over achieving this season. 

Add in he knew what he was getting into and yet still found it intolerable working with the shysters means it's most likely much worse than is thought. To know and be prepared for the owners being crap and yet still finding it intolerable speaks volumes for how bad it is. 

Yes it's disappointing as against all the odds he had us in the playoffs. Yes it's disappointing that he's turning out to be a better manager than we thought for us. But really the blame lies front and central with Venkys. 

If there was any doubt the fact we had the exact same issue with another promising manager a year ago shows where the issues lie. Our club forces anything good out of it.

Two managers and our head of recruitment (five months after re-joining) have walked or forced moves out of the club in the last 12 months, so I think that tells its own story. This place tends to be pretty realistic when it comes to the state of the club behind the scenes, but maybe it's somehow even worse than we think.

I wouldn't have.

I can get wanting to leave. I can get enquiring about other jobs. I would probably have handled some of the public aspects differently whilst doing that.

But more importantly, I wouldn't have jumped ship for Derby. A similar job would be on the table at the end of the season and he is at serious risk of overseeing a relegation and having his managerial reputation take a major dent.

This isn't someone with a lot of experience behind him. A couple of half-decent seasons at Birmingham and Blackburn will be quickly forgotten once he finds himself in League One.
