GO’N? 🤔

My friend said Steve Cooper who it seems would be a popular appointment here. Personally I don't think he will go to Middlesbrough. He wants to get back into management but it has to be right for him.

Of course he would be interested. It would be a monumental upgrade even allowing for the dreadful running of the club considering hes working in Ireland.

But he wouldnt even be mentioned if he wasnt a player here.

Absolutely. It would be a sentimental move, and you can't afford to make those for such an important role.

If it we were using 'blind' CVs, Duff's wouldn't put him much beyond Boateng or Boa Morte in most fans' eyes. Great to see him doing well, but we have to be going for a manager who we think is capable of leading a Prem side in a few months.

I would personally go with Damian Duff with Lowe & Johnson …The latter 2 would carry on the current tried and successful system and Duff would inject the freshness required with the little bit of Passion …. Not into this short 3 month appointment… Big Sam deff no … he can’t even put 2 sentences together these days …

I couldn’t see Duff lasting till the summer TBH…he strikes me as a “furious ball of energy” guy who would find the structure here to be “sub-optimal” *

*That’s a euphemism for “telling a lot of people what he thinks of them..” 😁

He’s probably what we need for that reason…but…

I think Boro would work nicely for him in fairness. It's unlikely that he'll get a prem job - fairly or not - and so he can join a club that if they can sort their form out have every chance of a top 6 finish this year. If they fall short, fans won't hold him responsible and he has a good chairman and decent squad to start again with next year. Other than a recently relegated club, it's as good as he's likely to get for me.

He could do a lot worse than Boro…Gibson must be a joy to work with compared to some…👀

It could be, who knows.

I do know that he has turned down two Championship jobs because he wanted to get back into the Premier League.

This is bang on for me, makes perfect sense and gives us the best of all worlds. Doesn't rock the boat short term, gives momentum to what comes next and we have a bright young'ish manager with name recognition should we get promoted and go to the market to buy bigger players.

Interesting to read everyone's take on how managerial hires should progress though. I've clearly no experience of hiring football managers but do have plenty in other spheres. I see it this way:

Competent boards monitor world football. They know who the good managers are, how they play, their philosophy, their achievements, their approach to youth development, their need to spend (or not), and most importantly who their agents are.

Competent boards establish networks and have conversations with managers throughout the progress of their careers, are they happy, how's life in country X, how's the wife and family, next time you're in town drop in to see a match, I'll show you round our set up.

In short competent boards know the answers before they hear the question.

Pick up the phone, call the agent, we want to talk, is he interested, how much, when etc..

We shouldn't be waiting for 150 random applications from people who are out of work, they're out of work for a reason.  We should be out their picking the apples not waiting until they've fallen to the ground.

I guess the notion of a 'competent board' gives us the answer. Still we are where we are so Mr Mani I 100% agree with your recommendation.

No Championship club and especially not one in the top 6 with less than a third of the season remaining would hand the job to someone managing in Ireland (Duff), Guinea-Bissau (Boa Morte) or recently axed as an assistant at Coventry (Boateng).

The fact that all three appear high in the betting list is highly alarming.

I can’t see the logic behind appointing Boateng as manager.

He’s 49 and only managed a Malaysian team for the 2014-2015 season.

It would certainly raise eyebrows and put Waggott & Pasha back in the spotlight.

I’m hoping it’s just agent talk.

Stop us from accidentally getting back into the Premier League, perhaps?

Agree about Boateng and Boa Morte, but would enjoy Duff. He’s done well in LoI and was a top player. Knows the club and could turn into a top manager.

I have to say that I have no idea who I think the next manager should be.  Duffer and the foreign coaches have no experience in this league and those who do have lost their jobs due to failure in past roles.

I suspect that that the main criteria is that hey will need to be able to work with few resources in a chaotic environment.  And not complain about it.

Agree. Whilst Im sure most of the fanbase would regard the last 2 head coaches as roaring successes, Waghail probably feel quite hard done to in the above respect.

I bet they're gagging for another Mowbray type who is content to plod along in 12th to 15th drawing his salary and who wont put them under any pressure regarding new signings or contract renewals etc.

A head coach should be able to choose his own assistant.

That is what I would think why on earth would we be looking at Boate g as a 2 when we do not even know who #1 is going to be, ridiculous but it is Waggot and his side kick.  Will they be offering a large bonus to keep us out of the playoffs.

I can see Waggot scouring this MB to see who we hate for a manager then hiring him.  A Coylesque fuck you to the fans
