Surprised by "underwhelmed" for Duff.

What's to like about that scenario?

Very little managerial experience (sorry fans of the Irish Leagues) and a club legend who'd have to deal with these scumbag owners.

It's just not worth getting him wrapped up in all this.

Valerien Ismaël - did well at Barnsley but has fallen off recently with failed spells at WBA and Watford. Would be an underwhelming appointment.

Gary O'Neil - did better as caretaking manager at Bournemouth than when he was appointed on a permanent deal. Had a horrendous start this season at Wolves, leading to his sacking. Nothing suggests that he would be an improvement on Eustace.

David Lowe - has done well as interim head coach with two wins on the bounce. Lacks experience and not convinced he has what it takes from a man-management perspective or how to change his tactical approach when results go against him.

Damien Duff - did well to win the Irish League with Shelbourne but there's a vast difference in terms of quality to go straight into Championship football. Club is not in a position to gamble at this point in my opinion.

Pep Lijnders - assistant coach under Klopp in Liverpool for several years. Failed spectacularly at RB Salzburg earlier this year. As with Duff, he doesn't warrant a gamble at this point with the club needing to find an experienced head coach who can guide them to playoffs.

Aitor Karanka - was relevant ten years ago when he guided Middlesbrough to PL. Failed appointments thereafter at Nottingham, Birmingham, Granada and Maccabi Tel Aviv. Would be a disaster of an appointment.

Luis Boa Morte - has had assistant manager roles under Marco Silva at both Everton and Fulham. Took up a managerial role this year at national team level (Guinea-Bissau). Just like Lijnders, Boa Morte doesn't warrant a gamble at this point.

Raphaël WIcky - won the Swiss League with Young Boys back in 22/23 but got sacked early last following a string of poor results both domestically and in Europa League. Worth noting that Young Boys is a team who plays on astroturf / artificial grass at home, often giving them an advantage when playing fast-paced football. Wicky would be an underwhelming appointment as well.

Ryan Lowe - spells at Bury and Plymouth before managing Preston where he guided them to consecutive mid-table finishes. Doesn't have any experience when it comes to promoting teams from Championship to PL so would be an underwhelming appointment.

Steven Gerrard - best spell at Glasgow Rangers when he won the Scottish League title. Disastrous tenure at Aston Villa before getting sacked and replaced by Unai Emery. Not convinced at all that he has what it takes to be successful at this level.

Is Ryan Lowe on there? I don't recognise one of them.

Lee Carsley - has done reasonably well with England U21 and his short spell as caretaker manager for England but lacks experience in Championship and managing in club football in general. Would be a gamble like many others in this list.

Aitor Karanka - was relevant ten years ago when he guided Middlesbrough to PL. Failed appointments thereafter at Nottingham, Birmingham, Granada and Maccabi Tel Aviv. Would be a disaster of an appointment.

George Boateng - has worked mainly as staff coach in various clubs. Lacks experience in head coach / manager department. Would be a disaster of an appointment.

That's a managerial motley crew if ever I saw one ....... O'Neil would be OK but not one of them stands out and to be honest I'd rather we stuck with Lowe to the end of the season and make a decision in the summer (after the season has started and the transfer window has shut of course) than appoint any of them for the sake of it.

I've missed pages on this thread but I  assume Cooper is not in the running. Of those out of work he's the only one I'd welcome given his very good track record in this division.

Rob Edwards - spells at Forest Green and Watford before overtaking Nathan Jones' position as manager for Luton. Guided them to playoff-victory against Coventry and subsequently gaining promotion to PL but got immediately relegated the following year. Had a horrendous start this year, getting sacked with Luton sitting in relegation zone. Would be an underwhelming appointment in my view as his career and way of playing seems to have gone stagnant.

Agree on every assessment.

If that really was the list then it would be 💯 best just to leave it until the summer when there will be more managers available or until someone more promising comes forward

Are you going to hire three temporary coaches to replace the three that left for Derby?

Unfortunately I feel it’s get promoted now or we aren’t funding players and running down contracts to slip into the abyss. Certainly feels like that just now so Lowe doesn’t fill me with confidence he can make a real go of the playoffs

Still baffled as to why so many people want Gary O'Neil. I have a dreadful feeling it's going to be him and he has no business being our manager 👎

It's damning that our current league position should make it the most attractive job around right now for an out of work manager, but that the candidates are all absolutely dogshit. ( maybe that's why they're out of work)

I wonder if any employed football league managers besides Wellens are sniffing round it like Eustace was doing while with us, that we don't yet know about. I suppose we wouldn't pay a fee to release them, we're too tight.

Genuinely don't know where some of these names or links are coming from. Only concrete 1 I know of is Duff. The club are keeping their cards VERY close to their chest on the appointment, usual sources I know drawing blanks.....

The only concrete claim I've seen was Jackson saying Karanka is getting a 2nd interview.

I have Gerrard Carsley and O ‘Neill in my happy with .. interesting the line about 2 names not being in the public domain

there i one name that hasn’t been discussed or linked with an interview and he’s is arguably the manager with the best CV in particular promotions from the championship ( 2 iirc ) and is currently out of work , the one we don’t want to talk about because he is ex Burnley

It's going to be Karanka, I have come to terms with it.

No chance of Duff.

Seeing as Big Sam and Warnock are out of the picture, for the last 15🤞 games, who would anyone back to inspire, drive and lead us to the promised land?

Got to be Duffer 🤞🤞🤞but will be Jimmy Karanke

With 15 games to go change nothing, 6 points from 2 managerless games, don’t fix what isn’t broke.

As dumb as Waggott and Suhail are, surely they know it’s gonna be open season on them if it is Karanka and he starts poorly. Seems pretty unanimous across our fanbase that he’d be an appalling appointment.
