He wanted out because he wanted not just his own choice of players in but also because he wanted assurances and clarity regarding budgets and contracts (nearly everyone out of contract in a little over a year need I remind you).

Posted all about that before and just he left.

He didn't get what he wanted which is precisely the reason why he took the unprecedented step of swapping a promotion push for a relegation dogfight with 14 games to play.

Well his decision and now he has owed that decision.

Good luck to him? Why would you wish good luck to a rival team's manager?

Cos he did a good job here.

Rival team? Not this season

Can imagine a David brent type interview

Waggot 'So mr karanka what qualities do you think you'll bring...shoot!!'

'Well I er...'

Waggott 'oooh you've noticed my plaque on the wall for employee of the year..embarrassing..I'll just put that in the bin...so as we were saying...you could be in this chair one day..if you play your cards right'

If you were to ask me to name three geniuses, I probably wouldn’t say Einstein, Newton...you know. I’d go Berg, Appleton, Kean....Mowbray!

Think I'm in the minority in being excited by Duff. I know his experience is only in the Irish league, but I just have this gut feeling, if he were appointed our momentum would go into overdrive. Stars aligning with a club legend firing us back to promotion, beating Burnley at Wembley then Venkys finally fuck off once we've reached the promised land again.

Spot on

Bring back Duff

Karanka would be the worst of the lot for me, I think we'd miss out on the top 6 and I think he'd be potted in November with us stuck in a relegation scrap. Would love someone to come back to this post when we're in the Premier League under his stewardship but I can't see it.

The two ideal appointments would be either Dyche or Steve Cooper. Both know exactly what to do in this position to get promotion or playoffs, done it on multiple occasions. We can't afford either of them though so we're stuck picking from unknown quantities and absolute chancers.

I have to admit, I'd love Duff too. What I really like about him is that he has gone from this quiet, quite shy player to what seems a passionate, outspoken manager who isn't scared to ruffle a few feathers, both internal and external.

Which is why I guess it won't happen.

We can afford them, but are choosing not to.

What do people of Karanka as head coach/manager?

Someone on x said Karanka was celebrating at savoys in London. If people type in Karanka and Savoys you will find the tweet

People tweet a lot of shit. You can literally make up anything and put #Rovers.

Saying that why don't we just start throwing loads of shit in the cycle? Zidane anyone?

Completely disagree. If he wasn't a former player of ours, he wouldn't be in the conversation, and that simply isn't a qualifier for the job.

That said, I'd take him over a few of the names mentioned- the proven failures like Karanka, or the even more noviced like Boateng. But honestly he shouldn't be in the running either.

Great players often don’t make very good managers. I don’t get the love in with Duff, just because he has done well in a tin pot league. It’s only because he’s an ex Rovers player.

Absolutely shocking appointment if true

Has a poor record since Boro, reports of fall outs with both the board and some players in his championship spells .

Although we love this club I can't really see Karanka and his family holding a massive celebration for getting a job at Blackburn Rovers anyway 🤣 Do they even live in this country, he hasn't managed in England for like 4 years.

We can live in hope!

It shouldn’t come down to Duff or Karanka though, there are better options out there. I’d agree that it it was those two I’d take Duff but I’m amazed we can’t attract someone better with the unique offer of a potential promotion on the CV.

Top 5 and key players on the way back for the run in.

It’s true the reason Duff is being mentioned is only because he was a great player at Rovers but that’s the reason he’s on our radar and that’s the reason we’ve heard about how he is doing in his coaching/managerial career and pretty much everything we hear about him is positive and that’s he’s done a really great job, that he has some really good qualities. Although the league is a much (how much I don’t know) lower level the fact that he’s done so well and the affection we have for him is the reason why lots of us are interested in him.  He might well do a great job and even though it would be a risk I wouldn’t be unhappy with him just worried that if it isn’t great it might sully his growing reputation.
