bluebruce
4 hours ago, Blueandwhitemike said: It’s true the reason Duff is being mentioned is only because he was a great player at Rovers but that’s the reason he’s on our radar and that’s the reason we’ve heard about how he is doing in his coaching/managerial career and pretty much everything we hear about him is positive and that’s he’s done a really great job, that he has some really good qualities. Although the league is a much (how much I don’t know) lower level the fact that he’s done so well and the affection we have for him is the reason why lots of us are interested in him. He might well do a great job and even though it would be a risk I wouldn’t be unhappy with him just worried that if it isn’t great it might sully his growing reputation. If you'd found out about him through other means (a Nixon link for example), and he wasn't an ex player, you wouldn't be interested based on his CV. People want Duff because they're letting their emotions rule, not their logic. Nobody is saying he might not turn out great, pretty much any manager could, but he doesn't have the CV for this job and we should have higher standards.

Ghost7
I think it's safe to say they don't know who they want. Perhaps the board are considering no manager as the way forward, since there's less questions asked that way.

AspRover
I wonder if our glorious owners are looking into the revolutionary possibility of loaning (sorry, leasing) a manager until the end of the season. I'll bet Liverpool have a young up and coming coach who could benefit from some championship experience. I'm joking, but also kind of not - the longer this drags on I do increasingly expect an interim 'until the end of the season' appointment at this point. It's clear that they really didn't expect Eustace to call their bluff and had nothing lined up whatsoever.

Terminology apart, a deal until the end of the season wouldnt be that unusual and for us is probably by far the best option. For someone decent that is. Id imagine, salary apart, that it's if we're ttying to hire someone beyond the end of the season that it's all going pear shaped.
Popular Post CoconutGrove
Not caught up 100% on this thread yet and not checked the socials as it's just your typical Alan "throw enough s#!t and some will stick" Nixon and then fan rumours. The issue with appointing a manager when you're in our position and with our budget is that they generally fall into one of the below 4 categories: 1) Little-to-no experience of management and has usually been an assistant rather than number 1 (Boa Morte, Boateng, Lijnders, etc.) 2) Up-and-coming manager who hasn't managed at this level but has had success further down the pyramid or in a league below Championship standard (Duff, Wellens etc.) 3) Manager who's not managed in the Championship but has managed at/had success at a relative comparable level (Gerrard, Wicky etc.) 4) Those who've had success previously (occasionally at this level) but have failed in one or more of their more recent jobs (Karanka, Ismael etc.) Out of the above, you'll never get an appointment that will unite the fan base - especially with our owners and board. If you're going to pick from category 1, you might as well stick with Lowe. If you're going to pick from category 2, Duff is the only option for me but I can't see him working for these lot. Category 3 is the best out of these categories. They can be the most exciting (see JDT) but definitely not guaranteed success. Gerrard would be a good shout considering his Liverpool connections for loans and the fact we haven't got a pot to p!55 in. His pulling power in the summer for the freebies and loans we will no doubt fill our squad with could help us get some of the better ones. Wicky would also be interesting but more so for the fact that not much is known about him. If we go into category 4, we might as well put a statement out that we're happy to be an 11th-21st place Championship club.

If they don't want to or are making excuses then scrub them off the list. I understand it when you're working with other teams on Transfer Deadline Day and getting players to London / Manchester for a medical as the clock ticks is a compromise. But for interviews for a management job? Get down to Ewood / Brockhall if you're actually interested.
G Somerset Rover
I’d be going for Gerrard too like CG, IF we are not taking the short-term approach (which I would personally be doing - e.g. a massive 6-month incentive for a guy like Dyche). Reason being I don’t think Gerrard would have to do much managing between now and the end of the season. Let Lowe and Johnson get on with the coaching and his presence and aura alone would be a huge shot in the arm for a bunch of Championship players. You’re seeing it with Lampard at Coventry. Gerrard’s involvement would also IMO push Venky’s closer to the exit door as we’d suddenly be remembered by the media. Correct, and even if it's getting a bit tired, a tour round Brockhall would still be the major attraction for aspiring managers? Id imagine that Venky's input aside, Waghail think they'll be able to keep things under wraps easier by conducting interviews off site.

Even for our incompetent board brining in Karanka would be a new low...Waggot is under pressure so surely he knows that he needs to bring the right face in. It was understood that GB was on his way too (although it was surprising he didn’t immediately leave with JDT - cash flow issues?). Waggott let it be known that he had a candidate in mind. 24 hours later, JE was appointed. So if that were the case, you'd expect JE to be involved in transfer conversations. Unlike what has been reported by some 'journalists'.

sharpysharps86
If true that Karanka is not in the running then that's a huge relief. First time I've seen Pep Lijnders name mentioned in Elliot's LT article. Don't know much about him other than he was a Liverpool coach with Klopp, and has since left Red Bull Salzburg after a brief stint as head coach there.
