New manager wishlist

I was underwhelmed when we appointed Eustace, and despite not being impressed last year (no wins in his first 10 games), you can't argue with where he got us this season.

So as always, I'll be fully behind Ismael, and with Venkys we could do much worse. Hopefully he proves some wrong (as Eustace did) and we finish the season strong and finally get a go at the playoffs.

What has annoyed me more, is the whole process by the 3 amigos (Swag, Suhail, Rudy). Poor planning and slow to react, very reminiscent of our transfer windows.

Yeah we will have to agree to disagree.

I'm not analysing any stats apart from his results and they are not bad at any of his clubs over here.

Again opinions of West Brom and Watford supporters mean little to me,they had big expectations and budgets and wanted a different style of play and to be going up automatically.

I would compare us to Barnsley not them,as next season if still in this division that is the sort of budget he will be working with.

With respect you have no idea If he was on shortlists for other clubs and even if not the same could have been said for Eustace,  after being sacked at Birmingham Championship jobs became available and he wasn't appointed or in the running(according to media) for any of them

“He” wont be working with a budget at all, so in that respect the fact he is more used to this kind of set - up (just choosing the team and tactics), is probably a good thing.

The results of both WBA and Watford fell off a cliff, and I think that was more the reason for his sackings than style of play,

Most supporters will suck up unattractive football providing the results are good.

Re - the last part, if he was anywhere near getting another job in the Championship we would’ve heard about it.

Eustace had only been sacked (ridiculously) earlier last season, so he got another gig quite quickly.

Anyway, he’s as good as here so he has my full support.

I hope he’s a resounding success.

We just need to get this announced now. As always with Rovers, we have to drag this shit out way longer than it needed to be.

He wasn't a manager I wanted in charge but it looks like it will be him, so we just need to give him his chance and see where he takes us this season.

Completely underwhelmed by the appointment and as others have said we fish in the pond of cheap and desperate both for players and now a manager. The managed decline continues unabated and of course 4001 Adult Season Tickets is the target Waggott will have set himself for 2025.

NOTHING will improve until Venkys are gone.

They've gotten lucky with their last 2 appointments, somehow managing to get us in the top 6 and challenge for it.... Their luck will run out with this appointment. Really hope I'm wrong of course.

This will be a disaster. I can already feel it. I don't know why, I just sense it.

The appointment they needed to make was Gary O'Neill, the most sensible at least. They've typically done it on the cheap and gotten a desperate out of work manager, David Wagner would've been a  better choice in my opinion out of that unwanted pool of managers.

Shite.

My gut feeling, also, but just maybe it’ll click 🙏🤞

I have no strong feelings about Ismael so clean slate from me - up to him and the boys to do their talking in the dugout and on the pitch.

But we all know what kind of support they'll receive from upstairs.

Looks like he played a 3-4-3 at LASK, Barnsley and West Brom (sometimes 5-4-1, so I assume it's wingbacks), then changed to 4-3-3 at Watford.

343 / 541 would be something like this I guess? (substitute Cantwell / Dennis / Ohashi / Beck where you see fit)

       Carter - Hyam - Batth

Brittain                           Ribiero

            Travis - Tronstad

Dolan          Gueye          Kargbo

433 maybe this, which I think suits us better (again Carter / Dennis / Ohashi / Beck where you see fit)

Brittain - Hyam - Batth - Ribiero

    Travis - Cantwell - Tronstad

Dolan       Gueye          Kargbo

Results dropped off at West Brom but at the time of sacking they were 5th and only 8 points off second.Coberan didnt get them promotion either. Style of play did come into it

They ended up finishing 10th

And Watford Is Watford they go through managers

Valérien Ismaël's tactics for Barnsley included a compact 3-4-3 formation, direct attacking play, and a high defensive line.

Formation

Barnsley played in a 3-4-3 formation, depending on the opposition

When facing stronger teams, Barnsley would set up in a low block of five

Barnsley would limit their pressing to the opposition's full-backs, wing-backs, and midfielders

Attacking play

Barnsley played quickly forwards with purpose

Barnsley would create scoring opportunities through creative link up play

Barnsley would push the opposition back into their own half

Defensive line

Barnsley played with a high defensive line

Barnsley would prevent penetration through the center of the pitch

Other tactics

Barnsley would exploit the wide areas

Barnsley would play long, direct passes up the pitch

As much as I hate those pricks, I disagree on this. Lowe won his first game as caretaker, so it makes sense to keep him for the second. He won that too, so it makes sense to keep him for the third. He lost that convincingly, so now it makes sense to make the appointment. I don't see much of a problem with how this has been handled, we won 2 out of the last 3 after only having won 2 of the last 11 (in the league). It worked, and also gave time to conduct the process more thoroughly (in theory...fuck knows what they actually did it in practice) and for more candidates to become available or make their interest known.

I think we'll get bummed playing a high defensive line.

Really like the look of that. Think I've seen enough of Ribeiro to think he'd be decent at LCB as well if required. Would help us to slot in Beck at LWB.

No wonder he's known for long ball - 5 defenders + T&T just leaves huge gaps between midfield and attack, nobody to actually open it up.

Might play into Gueyes strengths though if it's go wide and sling it in. If so i'd slot in Ohashi somewhere, seems to be the man in the right spot for the 2nd ball, before his injury

I think it would be crazy to switch to a back 3 with only 12 games to go.

We've toyed with a back 3 under Mowbray and JDT at times and it rarely works out.

Never really been a fan of a back 3, especially when you're looking at lesser teams. When you're a Man City (at their peak) or a Barca, you're good to go but not a Championship squad that survived on the last day last season.
