Looks like he played a 3-4-3 at LASK, Barnsley and West Brom (sometimes 5-4-1, so I assume it's wingbacks), then changed to 4-3-3 at Watford.

343 / 541 would be something like this I guess? (substitute Cantwell / Dennis / Ohashi / Beck where you see fit)

       Carter - Hyam - Batth

Brittain                           Ribiero

            Travis - Tronstad

Dolan          Gueye          Kargbo

433 maybe this, which I think suits us better (again Carter / Dennis / Ohashi / Beck where you see fit)

Brittain - Hyam - Batth - Ribiero

    Travis - Cantwell - Tronstad

Dolan       Gueye          Kargbo

On that basis it looks like his tactical approach is based on the players at his disposal - which is what you want in a manager . We don't want what's happened at Manchester United where the new manager insists on playing one particular way even though it doesn't suit the squad he has inherited.

God awful appointment this was told on friday about this mickey mouse appointment - failed everywhere except for division 1 even mowwbray balls that up.

Then you get Rovers yesterday post about worthington cup win in 2002 e - when the club had staff with football knowledge running it and in the job cause they enjoyed it n not just wage cause they dont have a real boss above them.

Play off push screw and this will have a massive effect on ST sales next season you watch be lucky to hit 6000

Pack up and piss off venkys waggot n pasha your all a bunch of tossers

Can i just save a few months of pain?

After narrowly missing out on the play offs and losing several key players over summer Valerian Ismael was able to guide Rover to 5th place at the start of the January transfer window. Injuries hit and a Rovers failed to invest in the Janaury window causing Ismael to leave to reduce Barrow from relegation. Rovers are once again on the hunt for a new manager.

So who do we think the next manager will be?

He has never managed In League One?

It was the championship he made the playoffs with Barnsley

Yeah, I agree with that.

It'll be interesting to see what he goes with. Fully fit, it's not a bad squad, albeit very reliant on certain players (Travis, Tronstad, Brittain predominately due to being stand out performers and lack of depth in their position).

My guess he's imaging the Barnsley stint was League One, where it was actually an impressive 5th place finish in the Championship he took them too (relegated the next year after he left)

Results dropped off at West Brom but at the time of sacking they were 5th and only 8 points off second.Coberan didnt get them promotion either. Style of play did come into it

They ended up finishing 10th

And Watford Is Watford they go through managers

Also widely reported that he had fall - outs with key players.

Let’s move on.

I think he’s very lucky to get the gig, but he’s here and all we can do is see what happens.

A more interesting quote from that article:-

"Despite the poor start to the season, it was a surprise to see Ismael rewarded with a new contract recently, and it is clear to see that the Frenchman has pretty much complete control over all aspects of the first-team at Watford - that includes transfers after the services of technical director Ben Manga were recently no longer required."

Sure he's going to love what Rudy gives him over the summer.

Personally think we should just run with the appointment, and wherever it takes us so be it.  But, the off season, the protests should really be crazy wild heading into the new season. We just cannot progress anymore with Venkys in charge of this club

Probably best to get all your facts right before you blow a gasket and your blood pressure.

It's no wonder people get so stoked up when they make up the stuff which does the stoking.

A phenomenal effort that with no money to speak of and probably the reason why he got the job.

He's probably got contacts throughout Europe so we could pick up some bargains this summer.

What like with JDT? Sorry if I’m missing the sarcasm…..

I’m really surprised with how negative this board is about this appointment.

Out of the realistic options he is probably in my top 3 (O’Neil was by far the best choice out there IMO).

He makes teams hard to beat, aggressive on the press and quick in transition. Those are principals most fans can get behind. It’s also not dissimilar from our current set up, we need someone who could come in immediately and get results, rather than someone who would implement a new style of play. Ismael fits this profiles.

He worked miracles at Barnsley before moving to West Brom, where he actually had them in the top 2 for most of the season before results fell off and they finished 5th.

Watford was disappointing 100% but their record with managers says a lot. Chris Wilder was awful there.

This is not me defending the board, sack them all. But this appointment could have been far worse. Let’s get behind him.

Let’s get behind the new manager and the team. It’s not been plain sailing so far this season but the fans have been great in their support which Ismael can expect to continue if he gets the team to continue the good work.
