New manager wishlist

Yes. I think appointing Boateng would be wrong move.

I think we need to appoint a new head coach for more than the short term.

But why would anyone decent sign up here long term without knowing what budget they have and what the contract situation is?

I just cannot see Carsley taking our job. Regardless of how well he did or how long he did it for, his most recent job was "manager of England" and I think that means that his stock is too high to risk at a basket case championship club. He can bide his time.

Also, if he came in, his style of play is quite different isn't it? It would take a while I imagine for us to adjust. We don't have time to adjust if we have any sort of ambition this season. Though I cannot see us getting into the playoffs regardless - the team work hard but will lack the quality over 46 games I think.

Too many questions and doubts for me over Carsley being appointed can't see it.

There's no way Carsley would take it surely.

The trader at the bookies probably just realised he's an ex-Rover and made him fave to temp a few bets, I wouldn't read anything into his odds at all, unless you could lay it, but there isn't a market for that anywhere.

I actually think that the Rovers job could be a good short term pull for any manager.

Agree a contract 'til the end of the season with a good basic salary, hefty bonus for getting us into the play-offs & an even heftier one for promotion. Get an extension clause written in but in your favour so that you can just walk away at the end of the season. I'm sure there's plenty of out of work managers who would jump at that.

If it goes Pete Tong then you walk away with your reputation in tact as everyone on football knows we're a basket case anyway plus a few quid in the bank.

We'll be the 'New Watford' soon whereby managers take the job on a hefty contract & bugger off or get sacked within a few months & eveyone just ignores your stats for that particular stint.

So yeah, Rob Edwards it'll be then! 😩

I do agree, but similar happened with Eustace's odds for Derby.

He wasn't being talked about, but his odds suddenly began shortening, to 1/2.

Fwiw, Reading Nixons article, I don't think Boateng is being considered as manager, but possibly part of a new management team, IE assistant of some sort.

That's how I read it anyway

For me, he's probably the best candidate out there currently except Steve Cooper who we can't afford. I'll be disappointed whoever we get because I didn't want Eustace to leave and it's going to derail the season even further. But at least if it was Carsley its better than some of the other has-beens, patsies and chancers.

Would love Carsley as manager. His football is a joy to watch. However, right now I would be appointing an Allardyce or Warnock. Give them til the end of the season.

Most could play quality football with the likes of Cole Palmer and Anthony Gordon against under 21 sides.

That'll go down a storm in negotiations with candidates for the vacancy.

SW : "Just to let you know that we're randomly bringing in George Boateng as one of your coaching staff!".

Carsley surely won't want the job, too comfortable at the FA. Big gamble for us if we went for him too.

Let's be honest,  does it really matter who gets the job?? If we were genuinely going for promotion,  we wouldn't be interested in any of the names Nixon linked us with. We would go for a Warnock, Cooper or maybe even Big Sam.

We don't need a long term appointment or someone looking for a project,  we won't spend any money so it's pointless. It's simply 15 games to get to the play offs/promoted. If we don't,  we will be struggling at the other end of the table next season.

With the owners we have and lack of real investment, we will probably go through several poor quality managers over the next few years and if we accidentally stumble across a good one,  they will leave when they realise Pasha knows nothing about football and won't sign any quality players or spend any of the money we've received in transfer fees.

It's all just really sad.

Carsley now 1/2 with a few bookies.

Biggest concern here is, he's only managed 61 games in the last 13 years. Barely more than 1 full championship season. The bulk (half (ish) 29) coming from managing England U21's since 2021.

He's had some unreal players to select for England U21's and life will be incredibly different for him in a relentless Championship campaign.

Not massively keen, I think he'll tank spectacularly.

Would any of those 4 being appointed cause you to be angry/annoyed/dissapointed/resigned to the fact that the play offs arent happening under him?

How can you be any of those until you see what they actually do?

Do you think Eustace would have got us top 2 or you didn't think Wilder would get Sheffield Utd top 2 and your direct words were "Wilder has had his day I think"?

Well done to @Herbie6590 today too. I heard you on my lunchtime drive today on Talksport.

I thought you came across very well, calm, collected and thoughtful in your replies to any questions.

Sadly I can't say the same about the presenters who's show you were on, who were too busy trying to make jokes in between talking to you.

If the caretakers somehow manage to pull off a win tonight, I think I'd be tempted to stick with them and see how Saturday goes.

With the underwhelming names being linked I think we'd have a better chance of the play-offs with a siege mentality of us versus them than bringing in someone new to change the dynamics of the group. I wouldn't have been against playing hardball and putting Matt Gardiner and Keith Downing in charge until the end of the season either. For me we need more of the same that's got us to this position.

After seeing Rob Edwards stats (thanks who posted those), he's not as gloom and doom as I initially thought. If it is to be an external appointment and not a 3 month proper go at it he seems a sensible choice.

Let's see if anyone "decent" not crap like Karanka sign a long term deal here

We don't go up and the same thing will be happening next season, our head coach will want out

The club should be throwing money at a short term appointment till the end of the season. They can't give a new manager clarity on budgets or contracts

Nobody decent is signing a 2 or 3 year deal here without knowing what they will be working with next season

Nothing's impossible but Id say there's as much chance of Carsley coming as there is of it snowing in the Canary Isles in August.

He's on the cushiest of number's with the U21's, a virtual job for life if he wants it and he seemed particularly uncomfortable with the media attention when briefly promoted to England Coach.

In the unlikely event it did happen though Id be fairly impressed. Very good reputation as a Coach, would presumably give the youngsters plenty of air time and would probably play a fairly attractive brand of football.

In an ideal world he'd probably be a good choice after Warnock/Allardyce short term if we dont then go up.

Which show was that on and can you catch it on podcast?
