New manager wishlist

Recommended Posts

Big part of me just feels bringing any new manager in at this point would likely upset the balance, they're going to want to implement new things and change others,

Just feel best not to rock the boat anymore right now and maybe the current remaining backroom team deserve to see the rest of the season out and keep things running as they have been whilst we're still in serious contention for a play off spot, then bring in a new head coach in the summer

But obviously If our form plummets and we fall away then yeh roll the dice and bring someone new in sooner

I agree with the sentiment but out of interest who would you go for that's available, not currently on the list and would have the best qualifications to get us in the top 6?

I've already nailed my colours to the mast on that with suggesting Warnock and I remain convinced in our situation he would be ideal in terms of experience, short termism and accustomed to making an immediate impact. For me it literally ticks every box at this stage of the season. It also buys us a few months to think and assess options to come in during the summer rather than rush into handing a 2-3 year deal to someone now.

Beyond him I'd throw everything at Allardyce but not sure he'd take it really, and agree that his powers have probably dwindled in the last few years but I'd love to see how it went. As above would at the very least give us the benefit of 3 months of time to plan for what on earth we are going to do when the squad is wrecked in the summer.

After those two I'd be struggling for suggestions that tick the boxes, I'm open to the suggestion of Carvalhal and think he would have an instant impact but can't see it happening.

We're in a mess - because normally you'd want time to assess and speak to options and plan for a critical summer but in our league position with games coming fast we don't have that time and need to seize this opportunity.

If we appoint Carsley we’ll be firing him next November when we’re bottom of the league. We need a manager who can see the way are playing, keep that system, and add to us in small ways. The last thing we want is somebody coming in and reverting to “ Pep Ball “. The guy at Utd is a classic example of what not to do.  We don’t need to rush this appointment. Let’s see how we go on Saturday. Make no mistake Plymouth will be as hard a game as we’ve had this season.

The most important thing is that we don't start on another new "project". As Lowe stated yesterday, the players knows how to play on and off possession, with the credit to the coaching team. We now need a head coach with similar ideas to what Eustace has been doing the last year, and improve it further. And not back to JDT and possession-based football or similar - we do not have the player material.

This is the success of e.g Brighton and now Liverpool. Finding the right manager for the way the club wants to play and improve it further, and not the other way around (like a certain Manchester-club is doing over and over again). I would guess that the management at Rovers have not aligned on those ideas though.

Totally agree. Going off his performances with the England senior squad, I wouldn’t want Carsley, he’s a bit too gung-ho and would undo what had got us the success so far. We are a very good, tight knit disciplined unit, which is hard to beat. That is exactly what we need to garner the points we need to qualify for the playoffs.
If it ain’t broken don’t fix it.

Social media awash with fans saying Lowe should get the job till the end of the season....

Amazing what a win can do.

I don't even think he'd want it anyway, seems like a quiet chap who likes to stay out of the limelight, he was constantly in discussion with the rest of the coaching staff last night, really was a collective effort and pleasing too see them all rallying round.

Seems like a very nice bloke but my guess is he needs a more of a leader to work off. Doesn't seem like he would be the type to be able to dig out the team if performances drop.

Is a bit of a tricky call as with 14 games to go in a good position we don't really want someone to come in and radically change things. But we do need someone I think who can command authority, keep the team motivated, and figure out how to use the new players.

I think we have to avoid falling into that trap personally.

We need to be brave and bold and throw the kitchen sink at it for 14-17 games. Im 100% with JH Rover and onejackwalker on this. Warnock preferably  or failing that Allardyce until the end of the season.

Can more or less guarantee we'll do the exact opposite!

John should be ashamed of himself, we gave him a chance to shine and he’s turned around and left us when we needed him the most. Sadly loyalty is hard to find in the modern game and I hope the club can find someone who will finally lead us back to the premier league.

Like Speedie would last 5 minutes working for this lot!

Maybe, but I thought his use of "we" was odd, not least as we sold him off as soon as we got promoted.

I noticed it but didnt think it was untoward -thought it was a nice touch.

Retrospectively, dont think you can afford to be too bitter when you're the makeweight in the Alan Shearer deal

He understood why (though he wasn’t happy about it at the time). He always speaks very fondly of the club. I would have liked to have seen him stay for another year - he would have been ideal after Christmas that first season when King Alan got injured.

Tinfoil hat on: club delays an appointment until the summer. Suhail and Steve get a bonus for keeping costs well below the budget (750 and 3 wages )

Summer transfer window and contract renewals delayed whilst we appoint a coach…

edit: PR dept puts out that they didn’t want to risk disrupting our promotion bid
