New manager wishlist

Given the budget and ownership we ain't a club that can offer a manager a project. It's a matter of chuck a manager in there for 14 games and see where it takes us.

The club's been teetering on the edge for years - taking the fair assumption we finish 8th, the summer is going to be chaos.

I agree that a manager is needed but I was wondering if people would anticipate things would get as bad as the Kean times (in terms of drop) if Venkys did go with a coach

I agree 100%. We need a head coach that will come in and carry playing similar way with changing little tactical things but major. Any head coach is getting a job with us in playoffs, a team united and fan based right behind these players and coaching staff

why not just Mike Sheron who step up from under 21's last night be that person

so you would say we need a head coach appointment after Plymouth game and before the next week with an appointment Monday/Tuesday at the latest?

I cant see that happening. But yes, with a full week before Swansea.

Ok thanks for reply.

Rovers should be talking and interviewing different head coaches now. This is attractive head coach job.

Would you be happy with Richie Wellens getting the head coach job? I think its a risk but could be worth it. Has a mixed record, but doing a very good job at Leyton Orient and lived in Manchester for years. Has pros and cons.

Ritchie Wellens is the worst name I have seen linked yet.

Worse than George Boateng who's never been a head coach?? Or Karanka with just a single success in management and that was 10 years ago?

Christ Caddy, I know the owners have no ambition but we should at least!

Be very underwhelmed if it was him, I’m all for giving someone a chance but this club needs a lift, a big lift at that. With our current position in the league and fan unrest I hope they pull something out the bag.

Come on you're splitting hairs there.

Like comparing cholera with typhoid.

No offence to the gentlemen concerned, talking about their managerial records.

Some absolute shockers in the next manager odds list, Ryan Mason? Steven Gerrard? John Terry?

Granted they are pretty long odds, but look at some of the shorter guys.... Richie Wellens?

My eye was drawn to the name Cameron Toshack near the bottom of the list. Had no idea who he was but as the name would suggest he's the son of the great John.

No managerial experience but been on the Coaching staff at Leeds apparently.

I dont know where they get some of these names from. Lol. At 75 Dad would be a better bet if he's still mentally and physically fit.

I'm nowhere saying he is the man cos I don't an outstanding choice out there and think he the right man to guide and into next season. Cos I don't. He is doing a good choice at Orient and I think it maybe worth a risk.

I would interviewing people today and next few days then pick my choice by Tuesday and appointed them afterwards.

Do you want people I would be interviewing right now?

The more I think about this the more I think if I was in charge I’d:

  • Keep Lowe etc in charge for the rest of the season (the safest way to ensure the team’s camaraderie remains)
  • Spend most my energy on tying key players down to longer term deals.

I await all the replies saying they’re glad I’m not in charge 😁😁

What happens if we lose the next 3?

I genuinely think that Venkys either cannot or will not commit to these, which is a major part of why Eustace is no longer here

Edit - The fact that all but 2 players are not contracted beyond 2027 (and no effort seems to be being made to extend contracts beyond this point), seems to me to indicate that (barring an unlikely promotion by that time) "something" will happen that summer.

Hopefully that "something" is Venkys planned exit from the club

Well I’m 75 RB, can I be your dad’s assistant?

Well considering we've played Burnley and Sunderland close this season (should have beaten both) I've no fear.

If it was Sheffield United or a motivated Leeds United though I'd be slightly more concerned.

Sheffield United is the 1 club we definitely want to see in 1 of the automatic promotion slots.

Personally, given our current position I think it makes no sense at all.

Wellens has only ever managed in the lower divisions and, as you rightly say, his record is “mixed”, (and that’s being quite generous).

I’m proven to be even worse at this than Waggott?

I think even if you'd like to give Lowe the gig ( I wouldnt) you've got to hang fire.

If you give it him now until the end of the season and we lose the next 3 you've nowhere to go.

If we win or get good results over the next 3 or 4 it'd probably be a lot safer to give it him.

Plus saving a wage on a manager!

Venkys could well appoint Lowe in the  hope that  he fails.
