Wolves did sell a couple of players but as youve seen with the improvment since he left, that squad was not as bad as it appeared under him. They had conceded over 20 set piece goals I think so early in the season. The players clearly cant have respected him much because towards the end they seemed to have a public showing of ill discipline in each game.

lol, a couple…. They sold 17 players over the summer. It’s hardly a couple is it

I think we will go foreign head coach cos they will accept Gestede and Owen having more of say in transfers than a British head coach does

I think you've lost your head if you're ok with Wellens Chaddy... He's done nothing in his career to deserve a top 6 championship side.

Would you genuinely have said Wellens had he not been mentioned Chaddy?

No, cos I expected a foreign appointment

Do you think we SHOULD purposely pick someone willing to concede the final say in transfers?

Rather than thinking, having people picking players that the head coach doesnt agree with has caused problems and led us into a mess. Just let the head coach have the final say going forward and learn your lesson.

That the structure we have, so we have to appoint someone who will work within that.

Head coaches need recruitment staff to research, scout and watch potential signings cos they are busy working with the first team players and training them, plus games. So you need a good Chief Scout with good scouts plus Director of Football to find the players that the head coach wants to improve the squad or a missing link.

Seems a strange decision to just leave the whole structure as it is and just get someone grateful (so probably crap) to be here and take whatever hes given.

But nothing will change with this dysfunctional club.

The structure isn't going to change where Gestede and Owen run the football side of it.  Have the recruitment department got many signings looking at it? The problem was Eustace wanted to spend money we received(which I agree with) and signing championship experience players. Problem with that, wages are high and we can't afford that.

You appoint an head coach who is happy to work in that structure which is likely why we appoint an foreign head coach is will accept that structure and experience of working in that structure cos that way alot of foreign clubs work

I’m not sure many would have picked Eustace at the time we appointed him. It could be a completely left field shout, hopefully in place pretty soon.

I was impressed with Gary O’Neil at Bournemouth. They sold about £150m of players under him at Wolves so no shock he struggled a bit there. Wouldn’t be against him at all. I’ve already mentioned that Cooper would be the one for me but think the issue there sounds like it would be the payoff to Leicester.

I suggested Eustace before JDT leaving as possible appointment.

Agree with Gary O'Neil

Only Neto and Kilman that were important players that I can think of but I may have missed one or two.

But either way, does that excuse conceding so many specifically from set pieces? Or his players repeatedly losing discipline? And is that squad really as bad as it was showing itself under him? Results since his departure suggest not.

But even if that somewhat excuses him this season. What has he done to specifically make him an attractive proposition?

Because hes seemingly a potential option, hes just hedging his bets to try and make it seem like something he wanted in case it happens.

Not really answered my question.

The structure we have had where people above the head coach often decide players against the head coaches wishes has proven dysfunctional. It pissed off Eustace to the point that he left.

Why are we not bothering to change that? Why are you just accepting that when its caused issues?

O’Neils management career has all been in the top flight. Arguably a better CV than the other names mentioned. He’s not my first choice but I think I’d be ok with him. Seems a decent guy who could come in and hopefully push us to the playoffs. Ideally we get the new manager boost with whoever comes in.

Looked like he had no bottle towards the end, but was an almost impossible task as Wolves had been selling off assets heavily in the past few windows. I'd take him over most of the other names mentioned so far.

I can guarantee you that Eustace got WHAT he wanted.

Cover at left back, cover at centre half, cover in cental midfield, pace out wide, extra numbers up front. It's the list this forum has been crying out for.

Where the waters get muddied is when you add in the WHO?

I'd prefer Rob Edwards over O'Neil. Got a promotion.

All of the candidates seem underwhelming tbh.

Travis is key whoever they appoint.

Absolutely.

I'd be asking his opinion on who to appoint. At least make him feel involved as the captain. He absolutely drives this team. If he's onboard and fit for the rest of the season, we've got a chance.

Why was it an impossible task? Their new manager has got more points in 8 games than O'Neil got in 16. Theyve still got a competitive squad with some good players in it. They were a disorganised and ill disciplined mess under O'Neil.

Merely BEING in the Premier League doesnt make you a good manager if you dont do well.

Hes certainly not got anything on his CV to suggest he would be a suitable choice to get into the play offs.

If they ask him he'll go with David Lowe because players fear change.  They're not supporters who want the best candidate, they're employees who fit their status quo

I'd be very surprised if he didn't go for Steven Gerrard who was one of his idols as a kid.

He actually supported Man United so Rooney was one of his heroes as well.

Second thoughts, let's not ask him 😂

Of the names mentioned, I'd say:

1. Steve Cooper as 1st choice. Don't believe he would join. Doubt we'd pay his expectations and he already knows what a basket case the club is after the LOB fiasco

2. Steve Gerrard as 2nd choice. Tainted by his last jobs granted but he did do a good job at Rangers. Wears his heart on his sleeve, would help attract players, even Liverpools better loan prospects perhaps. Tainted also by Danny Murphy tipping him to take it today. Don't think we would pay his wages after Prem and Saudi though.

3. Sam Allardyce as 3rd choice joint with below. I like Allardyce but I do fear time has past him by now. Relegation escape became his speciality, some time since he achieved promotion or an honour? Even after being burnt here before I think he'd jump at the chance for a 6 month crack at promotion.

4. Gary O'Neil as my other joint 3rd. More current than Allardyce, thought he I'd a great job at Bournemouth when I originally thought he would fail. Wolves was less positive but rely on others comments as its not a team I'd seen much of during his tenure.

Truth is, I actually think it will be someone from nowhere who no one expects, probably a foreign coach. I also still keep seeing Rooney on my Google feed so suspect that might be something of a sign....

Recent History tells us that they’re not too bad at picking managers and they don’t drag their feet.

But this appointment is probably the most challenging due to timing, our current (positive) league position, manager availability and fan unrest.

I feel like they’re probably mulling over a LOT of inbound CV’s. There’s not too many times when you’re appointing a manager to steer a team into the playoffs, in 5th position with 14 games to go!

I would personally go for a short term ‘specialist’ like Warnock to motivate them until the end of the season. Doesn’t need anyone to overthink it or over coach them. Just get the lads on side and fire up this seige mentality.

I’d certainly not be putting too much precedence on the betting at the moment, it looks like a bookies dream.

It wouldn’t surprise me if they went for a foreign manager and I’d expect the deal will be done next week.

Gerrard to the end of the season is blockbuster too. Hmmmm, maybe.

I think this has Steven Gerrard written all over it. Deal to the end of season then both parties review.

I have to agree with Chaddy a manger who will bend and accept Gestede’s role in recruiting players will be appointed … I just can’t see Gerrard doing that

God, please no!

Done nowt, and another manager trading off his name as a player.

I’m not a fan of Gerrard, but I think it’s easy to judge him in with those footballing greats who were terrible managers. He definitely got that Villa job too soon, and and the Saudi experiment is catching a lot of players and managers out. But he did a great job at Rangers,

My warmth on the Gerrard idea, is that with 14 games to go, the players need to stay motivated. They don’t really need coaching or a change of philosophy. If Gerrard came in, it would bring a huge spotlight on us. One which footballers love, plus you can imagine they would all want to impress him!? The script would be written…right?

Anyway, let’s see who we get 🙏🏽
