If they ain't throwing money at a short term man...we will end up with either Karanka or Boateng

Both ex Boro unsurprisingly.

What was that agency based up there that was an offshoot of Kentaro called?

Was it HSH?

Ill be gutted if Wellens gets it.

Wellens and Gerrard joint favourites at 4/1 on Talksport.

O Neil next best then Carsley who I dont think is a realistic candidate.

Fwiw, I don’t think the current betting is aligned with who Rovers want, more agents touting their client for work, or to get a pay increase, “because manager X, has now been of interest to Blackburn, Hull, Leeds” etc

In line with Nixon’s ramblings, it wouldn’t surprise me to hear (and I predicted) that we’d have a boat load of applicants. Aside from the obvious negatives, the Rovers job is a pretty safe one, and interestingly, we’ve been involved in a top 6 pursuit for 3 of the last 4 years, in spite of our diminishing budget. All three past incumbents have gone onto bigger contracts too (Money matters)….

The news will only break on the side of the prospective managers and I’d expect a new guy in next week.

The betting reflects where money is being wagered. Money wagered in such a small market is disproportionately influential in shifting the market. Some folks will undoubtedly bet based on the gossip you mention.

I reckon if 4/5 members of this forum each placed £50 on say, Steve Bruce, then he’d be the new favourite.

Rob Edwards probably most realistic out of the higher profile names being linked. Likely that he wasn't on daft wages at Luton, while O'Neil I would imagine collected a bigger paycheck at Wolves. Out of the two I prefer O'Neil.

Would love Damien Duff here, but only if he's given full support. Don't think the timing is right for that one at the moment.

I think Carsley will have some support in the corridors of power because he is seen as a. Coach rather than a manager I honestly feel Gerrard would excite the fans and give the club some positive PR for a change but I am not sure he really is the best man for the job and his salary expectations will scare the life out of Swag , Russel Martin ticks boxes but  if you thought JDT took risks playing out from the back Martin will have you having kittens . I don’t think Gary O’Neill isn’t the “coach” type they are looking for so… my gut feeling is it will be someone from abroad who probably isn’t really aware of all our failings as a football club , who is happy to coach and be dictated to regards playing stafff and is currently out of work I.e cheap

To emphasise your point further, on Skybet you cant even get £50 on. The max bet is between £5 to £30 depending on the odds. And those small stakes are still enough to move the market.

We want somebody to come in and not rock the boat too much. I can see some of the names mentioned wanting to play “ their way “ . IE more “ Pep Ball “. As an aside “ it seems “ Pep Ball “ is rapidly falling out of fashion giving the way City have fallen off a cliff.

Sorry are we talking about Nixon here?

If so he's gone into full PR mode for the Club since the Eustace situation arose. Possibly since the end of the window with his comments on what a steal 20k p.w. was for the Dennis deal (who has barely featured for us yet).

Most odd.

Yeah, sorry I should've clarified it was Alan Nixon. You are right, he has gone full PR mode with "the owners are rich, this has nothing to do with the Venkys, Eustace just wanted to go and manage Derby, etc."

What I'd really have liked in that scenario was for Andy Bayes to have challenged him more. Bayes was on the 72 podcast or whatever its called with Jobi McAnuff and I thought he was good in getting across what the problems at the football club are and why its likely Eustace chose a relegation fight over a playoff push...but presenting his own show on Radio Lancs last night he didn't relay any of those same thoughts to Nixon, who seemed to think Henry Winter / Big Sam were wrong in what they've been saying this week.

Instead they just started going on about what Troy Deeney had been saying on TalkSport, which is a waste of time really given Deeney hasn't got two brain cells to rub together. Frustrating to listen to.

Martin is one to avoid in my book. Overrated deluxe.

Agreed. So, the Mirror article with Murphy touting his mate, Gerrard on needs a few people to believe it, bet on it, and suddenly Gerrard gets backed in to be the favourite.

My point was, that ‘info’ is unlikely to be accurate, and emanating from the club. More likely, it came from a convo between Gerrard and Murphy and the intention is to keep Gerrard being talked about and linked to jobs.

FWIW - I reckon Gerrard might fancy it. He’s spent a lot of time away. At Rovers, he gets a crack at the playoffs, and a chance at the Premier League. You won’t get sacked unless you’re about to get relegated. It’s a good hunting ground for managers to rebuild their careers.

Speaking on Radio Lancs, Mr Nixon has just said they’ve interviewed three, via Zoom, today - one in work (presumably in this country), and two foreign coaches.

He said they plan to speak to about four more.

Thanks for the info. I listened to Nixon comments on Rovers on Radio Lancs.

I reckon Wellens is the one from here and the 2 foreign coaches I think one is Wicky and another is someone not linked to Rovers yet

This is very attractive job and no one we had over 150 applicants for the head coach job

I'd love to know who 'they' are when interviewing managers. Waggott, Suhail, Gestede, Owen? Others? What a sorry first impression potential managers would get of this club speaking to that gang.

A week on from Derby tapping Eustace up and they're clearly not in any rush at all to get this resolved (assuming Nixon is accurate, big assumption although he seems to be on the Waggott payroll/grapevine at the moment so maybe he is correct).

I would say that it will Gestede and Owen leading the search doing interviews before the choice candidate meets Suhail who then appoint him.

You speak as if nothing is wrong. Our head coach who was doing great has just left us to join a team that could go down. We have 11 points from 12 games. Weve a squad full of short term contracts and all of our best players see their contracts expire next year.

We knew what the problems were around the club and unleaded posts in the recruitment thread highlights what the actual problems were in recruitment.

Yet, this is attractive job and why we have over 150 applicants for the job, so people still want to come.

The performance and result on Wednesday did surprise me, Eustace's coaches had set up the team on Monday and obviously the players had a seige mentality and showed great character directly after what has unfolded. I dont think we csn sustain that purely on that feeling.

Why can't we sustain given this set of players have proved yourself wrong time after time.

This set of players are united and have stuck together

These options being put forward are underwhelming. The reason your supposed short list has about 10 names on it is because even you know none of them stand out as a particularly good choice. One of them you want because he lives local and another after reading a couple of articles online, that tells you a lot.

Don't agree, I wanted to interviewed a range of people including foreign head coaches aswell as British head coaches to see what one fits what I want in a head coach appointment which is good coach, good tactical and good man management skills.

I never said Wellens lives local actually, My comment was tongue in cheek comment. FFS

Yes I actually did some research on Wicky and actually tried to find more on him instead of saying no, no, no or who, who, who. Did you actually do some research on who Wicky was and what type of coach instead on complaining at people who actually did?

they`ve had two recent managers who they could`nt manipulate, now they`ll be looking for someone who is cheap, unambitious and  just content to manage in the championship,i hope they appoint a nondescript, who they think is a plodder but turns out to be a fantastic coach/man manager who gets us into the play offs🙂,they don`t want us anywhere near success, imagine the chaos behind the scenes!!!!!!!!!!!!
