New manager wishlist

If I was a betting man I might follow the below timeline:

1. Eustace let's it be known that he is not happy and actively applies for other jobs.

2. Gerrard leaves Saudi Arabia and returns to the North West.

3. Eustace follows through on his threats and Rovers give assurances that succession planning is an ongoing process.

4. George Boateng is rumoured to be interviewed but only in the capacity of a number two to the new manager.

5. Boateng has previously worked under Steven Gerrard in a similar capacity...

 

All speculation obviously but given that the current generation from which the lads in our squad comprise, it's hard to think of a player they watched as wide eyed boys who was more famous or admired than Gerrard.

A bit like Shearer signing (and playing out of his skin) for Kenny.

Anyone any idea why there only seems to be Betvictor offering odds? 

I'm not really a betting person (Grand National & days at the races aside), but would this suggest that something might be imminent?

Either something is known or they really don't have a clue on how to price it as by now there SHOULD be indications of who the favourites really are if it is a genuine search. Either way they suspect that someone somewhere already knows who it will be (IMO)

The above applies if they have genuinely "closed the book" - a quick chat message / mail with a request for odds for Rob Edwards would probably give you an answer

Eustace was appointed the day JDT officially left.

However, I still don’t see why we need to interview a potential assistant manager.

Normally, the new manager brings who he wants.

However, given he reportedly turned WBA down because they wouldn’t allow him his own staff, I can see Boateng being a deterrent.

Wicky didn't turn down the WBA as you said but he wanted to bring in 2 staff there which one turned down the move, other one couldn't get a work permit here

Used to work for the mentioned firm, albeit 20 years ago now.

Seems to have changed a lot but we used to have some excellent marks for these markets due to who used to bet with us (players, agents etc...), Plenty of decent info. Now they are more for PR and getting new accounts opened I always think, expect there is a liability limit of under £500 on most, even less for new accounts.

I actually miss the job at times like this as I could enter any name and get people talking, twitter would go wild if I stuck "Dyche 1/5" in for example!

Blackburn Rovers are expected to ramp up their search for a new head coach this week with interviews taking place.

David Lowe has performed a fantastic job of steadying the ship after John Eustace's sudden exit last week. The first-team coach has overseen back-to-back wins which has even led to some calls for him to take the post until the end of the season.

That would be a left-field move by Rovers and feels unlikely, at the time of writing. Lowe did not rule himself out of the running, when asked by The Lancashire Telegraph last week, but equally insisted his focus is on the short-term.

Rovers would have ideally liked to have made an appointment before the team travel to Swansea City this weekend. However, the six points and successive clean sheets has bought everyone some breathing space.

Interviews are set to take place this week with a number of candidates from different backgrounds. Rovers will then whittle down their applicants and try to strike terms with their preferred target.

Gary O'Neil has been a name that has been hot off the lips of Blackburn Rovers fans. He is expected to speak to the club this week and it will be interesting to see whether he could be tempted to Ewood Park, The Lancashire Telegraph understands.

O'Neil was harshly sacked by Bournemouth after keeping them in the Premier League and had positive spells at Wolves before the downgrading of the team led to poor results. Whilst he wasn't blameless in that process, it would be a major coup to bring him in.

Rob Edwards' name has featured more in headlines than in conversations from those leading the process at Ewood Park. It's unclear, at this stage, how keen he is to return to work. Or if Rovers indeed would like to tempt him to do so.

Lee Carlsey is another name that has been spoken about. It's understood there was interest from Blackburn Rovers' side but club management is not part of the England Under-21 boss' plans at this moment. He has links to the club and knows Steve Waggott from his time at Coventry City.

Luis Boa Morte and George Boateng are represented by the same agency. Whilst they hope for the pair to be considered for an interview by Blackburn Rovers, it's unlikely that they are serious candidates for the head coach role. A backroom position is not out of the question but again, nothing firm.

Edwards has set Luton on course for League One 'or if Rovers would like to tempt him to do so' - tempt him? He'd be fortunate to say the least to get a top 6 Championship job so soon after that mess.

It would be ambitious I guess in the sense he'd have been earning infinitely more with Wolves.

I did wonder briefly if Damien Johnson might be leaving the Club when they didnt give him the caretaker gig like they did when JDT left.

That's the only sort of thing that makes sense of a stand alone move for Boateng. Either that or Lowe is getting it full time and we need an extra member of coaching staff.

Doesnt sound from that as though we have a clue who we want or that the quality of the ten million appicants who have supposedly applied, is particularly high.
