New manager wishlist

Looking at that list is horrific. Gary O'Neil, Ryan Lowe, Ian Evatt... Christ. They're not even fit to take the bins out at our historic football club, never mind become the first team manager. This is gonna be an awful end to the season when Waggott auctions the role off to whoever will do it for the lowest salary.

There's only two on there even remotely qualified, Cooper who looks like a Dingle and Dyche who IS a Dingle

To be fair to Cooper, he's a bit better looking than your average dingle.

I have a feeling it's going to by Ryan Lowe. Local, out of work, cheap, sacked from a local rival, pointless.

Why the fuck would anyone want Dyche.

A dingle and had Everton playing horrific stuff before he was finally sacked.

No to Allardyce and Warnock. Their time has passed.

I think, as others have said, Cooper has the Championship pedigree but I can't see him seeing Rovers as a good move.

After Cooper, fuck knows!

I like Gary O’Neil, to be honest. Reckon he’s got something about him, but same as Rob Edwards - probably needs a little longer out of the game and refreshing himself.

Ryan Lowe is a big no from me. Ian Evatt - honestly wouldn’t hate it, but I don’t know if the dressing room would agree.

I think they'd both be horrific.

Edwards looked to me like he was in the middle of some sort of breakdown at Luton earlier this season and let it not be missed that the reason they are stuck in a relegation battle is because of their dismal form under him and he was totally out of ideas.

Evatt a similar story at Bolton, although he did a good job in the lower leagues for a few years since the end of last season he has just looked totally lost and has come out with all sorts of odd comments and behaviour. Bolton fans were largely glad to see the back of him.

Lowe - never liked him and something clearly not right to leave PNE 1 game into the season. Preston fans breathing a sigh of relief when he went.

On Evatt, I don't think he's anywhere near the ilk.

I think if you repeatedly can't get a club the size of Bolton (they are a local rival, but like us, they are a decently sized historic club and are actually trying to bounce back after bad owners) out of the third tier then let's be honest you're not great.

He also came out with a very bizarre statement at one point saying something like "we're the best team in this division" and then got hammered at home by Wigan a few days later. No thanks

Strewth, worse of the lot, listening to his Scouse excuses after every match would be worse than the Curmudgeon Teesider.

A great summary of candidates.

Didn't Cooper turn down the job at the Dingles just before Scott Parker took over?

Can't see us getting him but it would be nice bit of oneupmanship if he at least applied. Won't happen I know.

I'd bet my house on it being either Lowe or Edwards, wouldn't be happy with either.

Edwards has recent success that the club points to make it look it look like a decent appointment.

But overall it's because they're both cheap, looking for work and be less likely to rock the boat.

Lots of people saying who it shouldn't be. Only positive views seems to be for Cooper. Would be good to know who those people think it should be. Maybe the realistic question is who it could be, bearing in mind the shitshow behind the scenes and the likely mass loss of the better players in the next 12 months or so.

We are shopping in a v shallow pool of (largely) failed / washed up managers or ones who likely have ambitions better than what we offer at the moment.

Unfortunately the likely outcome is whoever will take the job at the lowest wages!

Mutual consent officially but to me it looked like a dignified sacking.

Exactly. Mutual consent is essentially a sacking.

If Rovers sacked Kean - they had to pay him 12 months salary (from memory). If Kean resigned he had to pay us 12 months salary. Hence mutual consent coming in and a meeting in the middle.

I'm convinced Postecoglu has wanted to get sacked for months.

Not sure why people are so anti-Edwards.

Took Forest Green Rovers up as champions. They've finished bottom of league one and then bottom of league two after he left.

You can ignore the Watford bit - sacked before he had a chance.

Then he took Luton Town to the Premier League with a budget smaller than ours. Even though they got relegated they were the best performing side of the promoted teams.

Seemed to have gone stale this season, but the rest of his record is good.

Cooper has a decent track record in this division. Give him a contract to the end of the season with a million pound bonus if we go up.

Then *review / REFUSE to pay the £1m

I fixed it for ya! 🤣🤣🤣

That's my concern with Cooper. He's dealt with clowns before.

Sorry lads, no offence to anyone, but I find it embarassing that every time we have a managerial vacancy people throw up an ex-player of ours as someone they want, and they almost always have very little managerial pedigree at an appreciable level.

Having played for us doesn't make you more suitable for managing us. Having been a great player doesn't make you a great manager. This simply isn't how it works. Sentimentality does not win matches.

There is no denying that he did well with Luton and that's on his CV and can't take it away from him. They battled bravely but ultimately weren't good enough last season, now this season, despite having the parachute payments, the wheels completely fell off.

Which makes me wonder whether his Luton success was a bit of a Coyle-esque fluke...

None of the people on our bookies list were the choice for Stoke, Cov or Derby, 3 medium sized championship clubs who recently changed manager and were in much worse positions than us. I wonder why.

Or.....one season in League Two where he had a very solid budget at Forest Green, better than most of their rivals

Yes ignore Watford as not there long enough

Luton...inherited a side just outside the top 6 and doing very well already under Nathan Jones, rode the crest of the wave and got them through the play-offs, but since then they've been relegated and are now on track to potentially go back to back down to League One.

So really only half a season at Luton that stands out as genuinely impressive.

Just out of interest, if you can remember, what were some of the names at the top of the betting list for those clubs?
