New manager wishlist

I doubt any managers have been put off by us not guaranteeing Cat A academy status or the like.

It's more likely to be far less defined. Something along the lines of, what's the long term vision, plans for next season if promotion doesn't happen etc. To which I'm sure the answer would be, we'll review in the summer or a load of hot air. It'll be the complete lack of any coherent strategy rather than saying certain things won't happen. We've seen this time and again over the years. We miss out on targets earlier in the summer who would have been within our price range because there is zero knowledge of budgets and targets for the upcoming season.

Failing the unlikely event of us winning promotion, I can see this summer being one of the worst under Venkys reign. The club is having to wash its own face right now and we're right on the limit financially. Hence no contract extensions, Ribeiro only being a 6 month deal, Kargbo only signing for 2.5 years. It's unbelievably short-term and once again we'll see assets walk for free rather than following a clear 'trading club' strategy.

So surely, get someone in short term who would give us the best possible chance of achieving the impossible dream this season.

No matter who is in charge, as you rightly say, the Summer will be a shit show if we don’t go up.

So you do want interview process where we interview candidate from the UK and overseas over a few days?

Do you believe we have over 150 " serious applicants" for our head coach job?

I think we should have had an idea who or at least what they wanted prior to Eustace going. He clearly wasnt happy for a while. We shouldnt be interviewing loads and loads of people, that suggests weve been caught on the hop.

Im sure lots of people applied as they do with any vacancy. Obviously none will be Burnley fans taking the piss or whatever Mercer said. But im sure a decent chunk could be instantly discarded as not appropriate. Im sure that lots of desperados, managers with minimal experience, former big name players, they chuck their name into the ring for any vacancy. Youve seen stories of people like Dwight Yorke annoyed that he didnt hear back from applying for the Villa job when Gerrard left. So im not having that they had to seriously ponder over every single application.

I bet because weve got so many people (Waggott, Suhail, Owen and Gestede) all sticking their beak in. Theres the usual disagreements we always seem to have at our club and its little wonder so many are being considered.

If you're Gary O'Neil, you're 100% waiting around for the Boro job. A former club with a board that is willing to invest and some consistent ambition of being at top end of Championship and trying to get back to Premier League.

I suspect he's probably had some conversations with Boro and told to hang tight.

And this was always gonna happen when we didn’t move quickly. It’s now 2 weeks since the majority of people knew Eustace would be leaving for Derby. We’re pissing around interviewing DE&I candidates that have no managerial credentials instead of just applying the right man.

For what it’s worth though, not overly disappointed if we did miss out on O’Neill.

Well league position clearly isn't everything otherwise Eustace would still be here.

And JDT couldn't 'walk away' in the summer, so unless somebody takes it on a 13 game contract how would they be able to 'walk away'?

Short-term deal, buy-out clause, non-promotion clause. Lots of solutions to the second problem.

Eustace was an idiot.

It’s 6 days since the managers exit was confirmed, 9 days since Derby triggered his release clause, and 10 days since JE claims he knew about the interest from them.

But even two weeks is not a lot of time, to speak with those on the initial list, sift a further 150 applications, have informal calls to get that list down to a shortlist of candidates, then conduct remote 1st interviews, review and conduct in person 2nd interviews.

In normal businesses, for similar profile roles, that could take 4 weeks to resolve.

In respect of O’neil now being a ‘no go’ do we know for sure if it’s us or him who have pulled back? I haven’t seen anything other than one line on X from Alex Crooks…?

Not particularly concerned about not getting Gary O'Neil. Him and Boro seem like a perfect fit though so wouldn't be surprised if that happens.

I still feel like it will inevitably be Karanka because of the Rudy Gestede connection. Karanka also strikes me as the type who'd take just about any job looking at his history in management so far.

Busted flush.

Avoid.

I’m not generally a fan of bringing back a former player, but I’d much sooner have Duff.

At least he’s young, hungry and on his way up.

We’ll never get a straight answer of who pulled back, but Alex Crook does have good Bournemouth sources so I’d suggest if he says it’s a no, that it’s a definite no.

Valerien Ismael the latest betting move.

33/1 into 5/1 on Skybet

Mentioned by someone on here way back at the very start and has been in the back of my mind as a typical Venky appointment.

Another who may be ok until the summer but I'd be very concerned if he was getting any longer than that. A dismal record at West Brom and Watford.

There is, of course, always the possibility that whoever comes in, inadvertently derails the playoff push by trying too hard to exert influence on players who are clearly already very motivated, well drilled, moving in the right direction and getting good results.

Maybe that might be something that the shadowy one(s) behind the management curtains would want to happen. Maybe not.

We will see in short order, in any case...

Hopefully the momentum will be maintained, and the behind the scenes shit show will be shown to be just the incompetence of the buffoons who are nominally in charge. A good old fashioned dollop of player power would be a grand thing at this point!

COYB!!

Might be in the minority here but I’d be targeting a big name on a 6 month deal with a huge bonus if promoted. A ‘long term’ manager, whatever that means, is no use to us right now and my focus would be on the next 6 months only.

Sounds like a job for Super Warnock!!

Football isn't normal business though.

What loads and loads? Interviewing 7-8 candidate isn't loads given how many have applied for the job. It's ok having 3 man shortlist but you might have candidates who you think wasn't interested 6 months are now cos of our league position and playoffs
