No,not at all. Mind you I am 70 so what do I know about what people find attractive nowadays? Oh, and as an elderly lady, I'm nobody's pal. 😀

I did wonder who was going to be the first to make the assumption. 😄. Good to see you back on here Gumboots, always did like your sense of humour!

Interestingly, as far as I can see, the only journalist to rule out O’Neil is Alex Crook.. Nixon and Jackson have not officially ruled him out I don’t think.. just hoping there’s still a chance and they’re still trying to persuade him.. genuinely hoping for a surprise in all of this.. big big appointment.

Elliott will mentiom him sometime later "As many are already aware, O'Neil ruled himself out of the running some time ago"

Also reported that Pasha / Swag heading to London for second stage interviews after initial round conducted on Zoom. Why, they are candidates for the role of Head Coach / Manager, Blackburn Rovers so why on earth are they not making the journey up to Ewood / Brockhall !

The "heading to London" doesn't bother me as it could just be convenient venue for key panel members including advisors from both parties on second interview. Still frustrating as the longer it goes on puts doubt in their ability but also that any short list doesn't include a top name. 13 games to go, yes we are that close to success, we need a top name.

Waggot 'So mr karanka what qualities do you think you'll bring...shoot!!'

'Well I er...'

Waggott 'oooh you've noticed my plaque on the wall for employee of the year..embarrassing..I'll just put that in the bin...so as we were saying...you could be in this chair one day..if you play your cards right'

Talksport Bet Latest odds:

(O Neil continuing to drift, I think he might as well be 100/1)

Karanka 3/1

Ismael 3/1

O Neil 5/1

Lowe 6/1

Gerrard 8/1

Boateng 8/1

Lijnders 10/1

Wellens 14/1

The only thing that mildly encourages me there is Gerrard coming in a bit. On the basis its basically a steering job and keep them motivated for 13-16 gamed Id be fairly happy with that.

Ismael I could just about live with.

The rest I'd be absolutely gutted about. (Assuming O Neil is out of the running)

Lijnders is an interesting one, obviously a stellar CV working as assistant to Klopp, and you don't get jobs managing in the Red Bull group if you don't have a strong background, but a short unsuccessful spell with Salzburg is concerning.

I think if he was coming straight from being Liverpool assistant manager there would be plenty of people cock a hoop about it, but that 4-5 months at Salzburg has trashed his reputation.

Good to be back. I've never really been away. Just never post if I haven't seen a match, and since I rarely go to Ewood and rarely watch Rovers on tv as we always lose when I do, I've not had a lot to say

Surprised by "underwhelmed" for Duff.

Depends what people want. Young upcoming but raw manager who has links to the club and might excite fans and do well, or wise, experienced old head who knows his way round the Championship, or someone who has done quite a lot elsewhere but isn't Championship experienced.

Karanka: "Well I errr, used to manage Middlesbrough"

Swaggot: "Oooh, you're hard"

When the ROI job was being discussed, he seemed very well regarded by Irish commentators.

It's a strange one with Duff, if it was the beginning of the season I'd be behind it...

It's not to say he doesn't have the qualities to take us forward, it is just there is a gamble linked with it, which is why I think many are unsure...

More one for next season?

He's been first team coach at Celtic and ROI assistant manager before becoming Shelbourne manager. He's had a good schooling for managerial positions I think.

I'm not saying I don't want him. Just that I can understand why people might think it's an underwhelming appointment. Personally I'm not underwhelmed - just think he'd be mad to take it at this time.

Valerien Ismaël - did well at Barnsley but has fallen off recently with failed spells at WBA and Watford. Would be an underwhelming appointment.

Gary O'Neil - did better as caretaking manager at Bournemouth than when he was appointed on a permanent deal. Had a horrendous start this season at Wolves, leading to his sacking. Nothing suggests that he would be an improvement on Eustace.

David Lowe - has done well as interim head coach with two wins on the bounce. Lacks experience and not convinced he has what it takes from a man-management perspective or how to change his tactical approach when results go against him.

Damien Duff - did well to win the Irish League with Shelbourne but there's a vast difference in terms of quality to go straight into Championship football. Club is not in a position to gamble at this point in my opinion.

Pep Lijnders - assistant coach under Klopp in Liverpool for several years. Failed spectacularly at RB Salzburg earlier this year. As with Duff, he doesn't warrant a gamble at this point with the club needing to find an experienced head coach who can guide them to playoffs.

Lee Carsley - has done reasonably well with England U21 and his short spell as caretaker manager for England but lacks experience in Championship and managing in club football in general. Would be a gamble like many others in this list.

Aitor Karanka - was relevant ten years ago when he guided Middlesbrough to PL. Failed appointments thereafter at Nottingham, Birmingham, Granada and Maccabi Tel Aviv. Would be a disaster of an appointment.

Luis Boa Morte - has had assistant manager roles under Marco Silva at both Everton and Fulham. Took up a managerial role this year at national team level (Guinea-Bissau). Just like Lijnders, Boa Morte doesn't warrant a gamble at this point.

Raphaël WIcky - won the Swiss League with Young Boys back in 22/23 but got sacked early last year following a string of poor results both domestically and in Europa League. Worth noting that Young Boys is a team who plays on astroturf / artificial grass at home, often giving them an advantage when playing fast-paced football. Wicky would be an underwhelming appointment as well.

Rob Edwards - spells at Forest Green and Watford before overtaking Nathan Jones' position as manager for Luton. Guided them to playoff-victory against Coventry and subsequently gaining promotion to PL but got immediately relegated the following year. Had a horrendous start this year, getting sacked with Luton sitting in relegation zone. Would be an underwhelming appointment in my view as his career and way of playing seems to have gone stagnant.

Steven Gerrard - best spell at Glasgow Rangers where he won the Scottish League title. Disastrous tenure at Aston Villa before getting sacked and replaced by Unai Emery. Not convinced at all that he has what it takes to be successful at this level.

George Boateng - has worked mainly as staff coach in various clubs. Lacks experience in head coach / manager department. Would be a disaster of an appointment.
