Recruitment Team / Scouting

Recruitment team has been put down all season by Eustace with his sly comments week in week out but these same players have helped the squad to be consistently in or around the playoffs up to now….IMG_6968.jpeg.679cf1097446c4019514ae65b48e0db2.jpegJust don’t understand JE why he would not give it a chance … but he’s burnt that bridge with his own hands and will have to live with it now …I really enjoy this squad which has a mixture of everything… From the Mavericks to the good old championship rocks … with a pinch of foreign exciting salt .. Well done to the recruitment team ( Rudy/ Adam who might not have the biggest budget but they done well to stretch it to its  maximum…..

Im sure his main beef was with the lack of resources, the reliance on short term sticking plasters and like any manager he will have wanted his own players.

The season has been built on a mixture of organisation and getting the very maximum out of a core of players, predominantly who were already at the club. The likes of Tronstad, Travis, Hyam and Brittain have been the stand out performers.

We signed attacking players in the summer and went into January still in desperate need of more becsuse they hadnt really worked out. Cantwell has been a huge disappointment, Gueye obviously had a very poor first half of the season but is starting to hopefully come good and Ohashi started like a house on fire but the goals totally dried up. Weimann is a useful squad player in terms of goals but as a starter will often be invisible and Cozier Duberry has been a poor loan.

I dont think the recruitment has been the driver for us being where we are.

They have recruited Asher Hines from Arsenal … First Team Video Analyst Scout last month … think since the departure of Parkes they are building up the data scouting side of it …Still waiting on head of scout …

The problem is not the core first team players, who are of a decent standard (forward positions questionable and inconsistent, but you can't argue with where we are in the league). The issue is with squad depth, which has been a problem for years and was the catalyst for our downturn in form under both JDT and Eustace. Once players start getting injured, tired or suspended, we inevitably struggle because we can't rotate anything close to that same quality into the team.

With a lot of players out of contract in the summer with no signs of renewals, and past evidence suggesting little to no money to spend for a rebuild, it's little wonder Eustace was looking for a way out. Now granted, it's extremely debateable whether it's worth the risk of going to Derby versus waiting until the summer to see the lay of the land, but it's a gamble Eustace clearly felt like he had to take. No manager is going from a team in the playoffs to a team in the relegation zone without having a pretty big reason to do so. We should remember that Park also walked after only five months, so clearly Eustace is not the only one with concerns when it comes to our ability to recruit.

We'll have to wait until the end of the season to judge our recruitment efforts. If we get a playoff position under a new manager then fair enough, credit where it's due, they (Park included, despite no longer being here) will have done an outstanding job considering the lack of resource available to them. If we slip away and end up in mid-table then it's very much as you were and little has changed.

He was pretty clear with what he wanted and they didn't deliver.

I think eventually he saw that the root cause of this was the owners and decided to leave.

He's every right to have a do at them as far as I'm concerned.

did any of us actually want what he wanted though? some of the names supposedly coming from him were past it and / or dire. patrick bamford???

My main gripe with the recruitment team is the speed they work at.

We wasted 6 games with a depleted squad in January. Getting Kargbo, Ribeiro and Dennis in on the last day of the transfer window is all well and good, but they should all have been in at the start of it.

Dennis for one is going to take weeks to get match fit.

I certainly wouldn't leave Arsenal for this shower.

That's not really the point though.

If the club would have signed players he wanted and they were shit then that's on him. Instead the club signed players that were shit that he didn't want, whilst ignoring all his demands for quality to enhance the squad.

Very few clubs can overcome the loss of its best players. That includes teams in the Premier League. That's why it is imperative to have a little luck along the way.

Whilst injuries, loss of form and suspensions are inevitable, we struggle to compete with the parachute clubs who have circa forty million more income than us. Its a huge disparity.

Look who are running away with the league. Two parachute clubs, Sunderland and Leeds. It's a struggle for everyone else. The outlier is Luton who have somehow managed to completely implode whilst waxing big money.

Well said, pretty obvious really but not what folk wish to hear.

Extrapolated, this means the owners have recruited well with the recruitment team. Who in turn have recruited well with coaches and players.

Someone recruited Eustace who did very well. Someone recruited a squad capable so far of hitting the play offs all season.

Hard work never hurt anyone and we for sure have a hardworking group we can justifiably be proud of. There is a maturity behind this team that speaks volumes. No bitching, in fighting, or drama. Solid professionals giving their all week in week out.

Less money means greater diligence, research and consideration. Look at how much we wasted in the parachute years on thart horrible bunch of mercenaries. Give me this group anyday.

Thanks for the input Suhail but I think you're talking complete bollocks.

The way people can jump to that sort of opinion on players so quickly is embarrassing. You negate any valid points you could ever make if you’re calling someone shit who you’ve never even seen start a league game.

Equally people, players take time. Look at the way Big Mak played the other day? Does that make me a venky brother for saying the recruitment team did well?

Could you clarify a couple of points, Unleaded...

- How was JE able to interfere, exactly? If his job is to coach and the transfer committee to sign players, who was giving Eustace scope to interfere in the first place? There must have been a member of the hierarchy letting Eustace have his say and overrule things - who was it? Waggott? This suggests a highly disorganised and chaotic structure at the club.

- Why were things different in January? By all accounts Eustace did not get the players he wanted in this window, and instead these players were the choice of the transfer committee, which Eustace wasn't happy with. It's strange to me that there would be such a sudden change between the summer and the winter, and that Park left despite the January window likely to allow him to wield more influence rather than less. This also suggests a highly disorganised and chaotic structure at the club.

- Since JE has gone, is there a possibility of a third return for Park, as you say he left because of Eustace, and Eustace is no longer here? People at the club clearly seem to like him, as he's already been and gone twice.
